Quick Start Guide
Safety Instructions
- Do not repair, disassemble, or modify the device without permission.
- For good ventilation, maintain a minimum of 10cm clearance at the back and sides, and 20cm at the top of the player.
- Avoid water dripping or splashing onto the player. Do not place liquid-filled objects (e.g., vases) on the player.
- Do not cover ventilation holes with items like newspapers, cloths, or curtains to prevent blocking airflow.
- Do not place open flame sources (e.g., burning candles) on the player.
- Connect the player to an AC power output socket with grounding protection.
- If power plugs and appliance couplers are used as disconnecting devices, ensure they are easily operable.
- Dispose of waste batteries according to relevant local regulations.
- Use only in areas with an elevation under 2000m (see Fig. 1 for the sign).
- Use only in non-tropical climate conditions (see Fig. 2 for the sign).
Safety Precautions
⚠️ CAUTION: RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK - DO NOT OPEN
The symbol with an arrowed lightning bolt inside an equilateral triangle warns the user of high voltages inside the player that could cause electric shock.
The symbol with an exclamation mark inside an equilateral triangle indicates that the player has important operation and maintenance instructions.
Laser Warning
? Laser Warning: The laser beam can damage eyes. Do not open the enclosure; only a qualified technician should perform repairs.
This player is classified as a Class 1 laser product, indicated by a label on the rear of the enclosure.
The laser components can generate laser radiation exceeding the Class 1 limit.
Parts Identification
Front Panel
The front panel features:
- 1. CD Drive: Slot for inserting CDs.
- 2. Stop & Eject Button: Controls CD stop/eject functions.
- 3. Play/Pause Button: Starts or pauses playback.
- 4. MQA Indicator: Shows MQA playback status (color-coded).
- 5. Standby Button / Sleep / Volume Wheel: Powers the device on/off, controls sleep mode, and adjusts volume.
- 6. Ambient Light: Provides subtle lighting.
- 7. 5.1-inch Touch Screen: For display and control.
- 8. Previous Track Button: Skips to the previous track or rewinds.
- 9. Next Track Button: Skips to the next track or fast-forwards.
- 10. Remote Control Receiver: Receives signals from the remote.
- 11. 6.35mm Single-Ended Headphone Output: For connecting headphones.
- 12. USB Port: For connecting USB storage devices.
Rear Panel
The rear panel includes various input and output ports:
- 1. Digital IIS-LVDS Output: High-resolution digital audio output.
- 2. Digital Coaxial Output: Digital audio output via coaxial cable.
- 3. Digital Optical Output: Digital audio output via optical cable.
- 4. USB DAC Input: Connects to a computer for digital audio playback.
- 5. Digital Coaxial Input: Digital audio input via coaxial cable.
- 6. Digital Optical Input: Digital audio input via optical cable.
- 7. WiFi/Bluetooth Antenna: For wireless connectivity.
- 8. RCA Analog Output: Standard analog audio output.
- 9. Balanced Analog Output (XLR): High-quality balanced analog audio output.
- 10. Power Connector: For connecting the power cord.
- 11. Power Switch: Main power switch (ON/OFF).
Also visible on the rear are the model number (MCD1.3), power consumption (40W), serial number, CE marking, and manufacturer details (Shenzhen Shanling Digital Technology Development Co., Ltd.).
Remote Control
The included remote control (RC-3T) allows operation of the MCD1.3. Ensure the CD button is pressed to use the remote for the CD player. A long press of the CD button switches the device into standby mode.
Key functions include:
- Stop & Eject: Stops playback and opens/closes the CD tray.
- Previous Track / Rewind: Short press for previous track, long press for rewind.
- Next Track / Forward: Short press for next track, long press for fast forward.
- Play/Pause: Starts or pauses playback.
- Repeat: Cycles through repeat modes (current track, album/disc).
- Mute: Temporarily silences audio output.
- Input Select: Cycles through available input sources.
- Volume Control: Adjusts the audio volume up or down.
- Screen On/Off (DIMMER): Turns the display screen on or off.
- Random Play: Activates or deactivates random playback mode.
Note: The remote has an effective range of up to 10 meters and a reception angle of 30 degrees. Some buttons on universal remotes may not function with this device.
Operating Instructions
Turn ON/OFF
- Connect the power cord and signal cables.
- Set the rear Power Switch to the [ON] position. The ambient light will turn red.
- Press the [STANDBY] wheel on the front panel for 2 seconds to turn on the system. The ambient light will change to blue.
- To turn off, press the [STANDBY] wheel for 2 seconds again. The ambient light will turn red, and the device will power down.
- For complete power off, set the rear Power Switch to the [OFF] position. Disconnect the power cord if not in use for an extended period.
Input/Output Switching
Input: Press the [▲ INPUT▼] button on the remote, or navigate to the Input/Output settings via the device's main menu. You can select inputs such as "CD PLAYBACK", "LOCAL MUSIC", "BLUETOOTH INPUT", "USB DAC", "COAXIAL", "OPTICAL".
Output: Click the [⑩] icon in the swipe-down menu or access Input/Output settings in the main menu. Switch outputs between "Preamp Output", "Line Output", and "Headphone Output".
Volume Control
Adjust volume by rotating the front panel wheel or using the [VOL +/-] buttons on the remote control.
Stop & Eject
- When the device is on, press the [■/⏏] button on the front panel or remote to open the CD tray. Place the disc, then press the button again to close the tray.
- While playing, press the [■/⏏] button to stop playback. Press it again to eject the disc.
Play/Pause
- With a disc loaded or stopped, tap the [▶️] icon on the display or press the [▶️/⏸️] button on the panel/remote to start playback.
- While playing, tap the [⏸️] icon on the display or press the [▶️/⏸️] button to pause playback. Press again to resume.
Previous Track
Tap the [◀️] icon on the display or press the [◀️] button on the panel/remote. If the current track has played for less than 5 seconds, it skips to the previous track. Otherwise, it restarts the current track, and a second press skips to the previous track.
Next Track
Tap the [▶️] icon on the display or press the [▶️] button on the panel/remote to skip to the next track.
Rewind / Fast Forward
Long press the [◀️◀️] or [▶️▶️] button to rewind or fast forward through the current track.
Repeat Play
Tap the [?] icon or press the [REP] button once. The display shows a "?" icon for current track repeat. For album/disc repeat, tap the icon or press [REP] again; the display shows "?". To cancel repeat, tap the icon or press [REP] again; the display shows "?".
Random Play
- Press the [?] key on the remote. The display shows an "?" icon indicating random playback is active.
- Press the [?] key again to cancel random playback.
Screen On/Off
Short press the [STANDBY] wheel or the [DIMMER] button on the remote to turn the screen on or off.
Mute Playback
- Press the [?] button to mute playback. The display will show "MUTE".
- Press the [?] button again to resume playback.
Connectivity & Playback
USB Driver Playback
- Recommended: Use USB drives formatted to FAT32.
- Supports drives up to 2TB.
- Supports up to PCM 768kHz and DSD512.
- Supported formats include: DSD, DXD, APE, FLAC, WAV, AIFF/AIF, DTS, MP3, WMA, AAC, OGG, ALAC, MP2, M4A, AC3, OPUS, TAK, and CUE files.
Bluetooth Input
- Switch the input source to "BT Input" mode.
- Open Bluetooth settings on your device and search for new devices.
- The player will appear as "Shanling MCD1.3".
- Pair your device with the player to connect and play music.
USB Settings (USB DAC)
- Connect the MCD1.3 to your computer using a USB cable to the rear USB DAC port.
- Select "USB DAC" as the input source via the device's menu or the [⑩] icon.
- For Windows, download and install the dedicated Shanling drivers from the official website. macOS does not require separate drivers.
- Ensure the MCD1.3 is set as the active sound output device on your computer.

App Control, Firmware Updates & MQA Indicator
APP Control
Download the "Eddict Player" app for remote control of the MCD1.3 from your smartphone or tablet. Scan the QR codes provided in the manual to download the app and its user manual.
Firmware Update
Important: Do not operate the player during the update process.
Over-the-Air (OTA) Update:
- Ensure WiFi is enabled on the player and connected to a network.
- Navigate to "System Setting - System Update - Network Update" to automatically update the firmware.
USB Drive Update:
- Download the firmware update file (update.bin) from the Shanling official website. Copy it to the root directory of a USB drive.
- Connect the USB drive to the player. Navigate to "System Setting - System Update - Local Update" and confirm to start the update.
MQA Indicator
The MQA indicator light shows the status of MQA playback:

IIS-LVDS Output Interface Pin Definitions
