Daily life at home places high demands on upholstered furniture. IKEA sofas and armchairs are thoroughly tested to ensure they meet our strict quality and safety standards as well as the high standard for home use.

For selected items, we provide a 25-year guarantee on material and workmanship defects for frames, seats, and back cushions of sofas. We provide a 10-year guarantee on material and workmanship defects for frames, seats, and back cushions of sofas and armchairs. We provide a 2-year guarantee on material and workmanship defects for the frame, seat, and back cushion of the electric armchair element.
Warranty Conditions
The provided guarantee applies to purchases at IKEA in Germany. The respective warranty period begins on the date of purchase and is ten (10) or twenty-five (25) years. As proof of purchase, the original receipt or invoice must be kept and presented when claiming the guarantee. This guarantee is valid only for the original purchaser of the new IKEA product. It is non-transferable. Furthermore, the guarantee does not apply to purchases from the Second Chance market.
This guarantee applies to home use of armchairs and sofas and covers material and workmanship defects on all:
- Frames
- Seats and back cushions
in the designated combination.

In Case of a Warranty Claim
How is the problem resolved?
Within a reasonable period after notification of the defect, IKEA will inspect the product and take the following steps if a warranty claim is valid: IKEA will have the defective product repaired or rectified, or replaced with an identical or comparable product (replacement delivery). IKEA will cover the costs for repair, spare parts, disassembly if applicable, return of the defective or replaced product and delivery, as well as assembly of the rectified or delivered product, and any associated labor and travel costs of the assembly company. Replaced parts become the property of IKEA.
If the product is no longer carried by IKEA, IKEA will offer a comparable replacement product in terms of quality and price. If a comparable product is no longer available in the IKEA assortment, IKEA will provide fair compensation.
What does this guarantee not cover?
- Products that have been incorrectly assembled, misused, altered, or cleaned with incorrect cleaning methods or agents.
- Individual parts, but only complete, correctly assembled combinations from the same series. Example: An EKTORP frame with seat and back cushions must only be used with an EKTORP cover of the corresponding size.
- Normal wear and tear, cuts, scratches, or damage caused by impacts or accidents.
- Product placed outdoors or in an environment with high humidity.
- Damage caused intentionally or negligently.
Product Testing
Our sofas and armchairs are thoroughly tested. At IKEA, we test all our sofas and armchairs to ensure they are truly durable and long-lasting. For furniture with long guarantees, we are particularly rigorous. For example, we apply a weight of 100 kg to the seat surface 50,000 times and 30 kg to the backrest just as often. This way, we can be sure that the frames maintain their stability and the upholstery retains its elasticity and comfort. Our guarantees confirm that our sofas and armchairs can be used frequently and for a long time – our promise.
Care Instructions
General Care
Cushions must be regularly plumped up (at least once a month) to maintain their comfort. Additionally, cushions that are used more frequently should be swapped with those used less often.
After two weeks of use, please retighten the screws on the legs and repeat this process at regular intervals.
Washable Covers
- Follow care instructions.
- Iron while slightly damp after washing.
- Re-cover the frame while the cover is still slightly damp. This makes it easier to fit and helps it quickly regain its correct shape. Please note! It is still important that the cover is not too damp when it is pulled onto the frame.
Leather Care
- Vacuum regularly with a soft brush attachment.
- Protect leather furniture from direct sunlight and keep at least 30 cm distance from heat sources to prevent drying out.
- Clean thoroughly 1-2 times a year with ABSORB leather care products, available at IKEA.
- Never clean leather with conventional or unsuitable cleaning agents.
- Leather is also sensitive to strong colors, e.g., from red wine or coffee. Therefore, spills should be wiped up immediately.
Note for Stockholm Series
Vacuum the sofa carefully – use a vacuum attachment with a soft brush; wipe the furniture with a slightly damp cloth if necessary. Do not use ABSORB products or other leather care products.

Statutory Warranty and Product Liability Claims
Statutory claims for defects regarding rectification, withdrawal, reduction, and damages or compensation, which are free of charge, exist in addition to our guarantees and are not limited by them. Claims under product liability law also remain unaffected.

Please keep the original receipt or invoice! To claim the guarantee, the original receipt or invoice serves as proof of purchase.
