How the System Works
The video doorbell system consists of two main components:
- The video doorbell unit installed at your door.
- The Wi-Fi Doorbell Chime located inside your house.
The video doorbell is designed to detect motion at your porch and allow you to answer the door from anywhere, anytime. The Wi-Fi Doorbell Chime serves as an indoor digital chime and stores video clips onto a microSD card (which must be provided by the user). When someone rings the doorbell, occupants within the house will receive a notification.
Diagram Description: A visual shows the doorbell mounted outside a house, wirelessly communicating with a chime unit inside. Another diagram illustrates the doorbell detecting motion and sending a notification.
Step 1: Powering on the Wi-Fi Doorbell Chime
Connect the Wi-Fi Doorbell Chime to the Internet
- Attach the Power Connector: Place the power connector over the Wi-Fi Doorbell Chime, aligning the raised slots with the notch on the chime's base. Rotate clockwise to secure the connector.
- Extend Antennas: Extend the Wi-Fi Doorbell Chime's antennas.
- Connect to Power: Plug the Wi-Fi Doorbell Chime into an AC power supply. The LED indicator will turn solid green when the chime is ready for setup.
Diagram Description: Illustrations show the power connector being attached to the chime unit and the chime unit with its antennas extended.
Step 2: Setting up the System
Download the App and Set up the System
Download the eufy Security app from the App Store (for iOS devices) or Google Play (for Android devices).
Sign up for a eufy Security account and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup. Tap 'Add Device' and add the following devices:
- Add the Wi-Fi Doorbell Chime.
- Add the doorbell.
Visual Description: Icons representing the App Store and Google Play are displayed.
Step 3: Charging Your Doorbell
The doorbell is shipped with an 80% battery charge for safe transportation. It is recommended to fully charge the doorbell before mounting it at your front door.
Diagram Description: An illustration shows the doorbell connected to a USB cable and a power source for charging.
Note: Battery life varies based on usage. In typical scenarios, with up to 15 events per day and each recording lasting 20 seconds on average, the doorbell battery can last up to 4 months.
LED Indication:
- Charging: Solid orange
- Fully charged: Solid blue
Charging Time: Approximately 6 hours from 0% to 100%.
Step 4: Finding a Mounting Spot
Find a Mounting Spot
Take the Video Doorbell to your front door. Use the eufy Security app to check the live view and identify a position that provides the desired field of view.
Consider the following factors:
- Check if existing holes and anchors on the wall or door frame can be reused.
- If placing the doorbell near a side wall, ensure the wall does not appear in the field of view to prevent IR light reflection and blurry night vision.
- If drilling new mounting holes, the recommended mounting height is 48 inches (1.2m) from the ground.
- The 15° mounting wedge can be used as a supplementary mounting bracket to improve the view on a specific side.
Diagram Description: Visuals illustrate height references (1.76m, 1m, 1.2m, 0.3m) and compare the field of view with and without the 15° mounting wedge. Another diagram shows the Screw Hole Positioning Card being placed against the wall to mark drilling points.
Step 5: Mounting the Bracket
Mount the Doorbell on a Wooden Surface
If mounting on a wooden surface, pre-drilling pilot holes is not necessary. Use the provided screws to secure the Mounting Bracket to the wall. The Screw Hole Positioning Card indicates the screw hole positions.
Required items: Power Drill, Mounting Bracket, 15° Mounting Wedge (Optional), Screw Packs.
Diagram Description: Illustrations show required tools like a Phillips-Head Screwdriver and the components. Further diagrams depict the Mounting Bracket attached to the wall, both with and without the 15° Mounting Wedge.
Mount the Video Doorbell on Surfaces Made Out of Hard Materials
- For hard surfaces like brick, concrete, or stucco, drill two holes using a 15/64” (6mm) drill bit through the Screw Hole Positioning Card.
- Insert the provided anchors into the holes, then use the provided long screws to secure the Mounting Bracket to the wall.
Required items: Power Drill, 15/64” (6mm) Drill Bit, Mounting Bracket, 15° Mounting Wedge (Optional), Screw Packs.
Diagram Description: Illustrations show required tools including a Power Drill with a 1/4" (6.35mm) Drill Bit and a 15/64" (6mm) Drill Bit, along with the components. Further diagrams show the Mounting Bracket attached to the wall, both with and without the 15° Mounting Wedge.
Step 6: Mounting the Doorbell
Mount the Doorbell
Align the doorbell with the top of the mount and then snap the bottom into place.
Diagram Description: An illustration shows the doorbell being attached to the mounted bracket.
You're all set! For instructions on detaching the doorbell or recharging it, please refer to the relevant sections.
Appendix 1: Detaching the Doorbell
Detach the Doorbell
- Use the provided doorbell detaching pin to detach the doorbell from the Mounting Bracket.
- Insert and press the detaching pin into the hole located at the bottom of the doorbell, then lift to remove the bottom of the doorbell.
Required item: Doorbell Detaching Pin.
Diagram Description: An illustration shows the Doorbell Detaching Pin and the process of inserting it into the doorbell to release it.
Appendix 2: Recharging the Doorbell
Recharge the Doorbell
Charge the doorbell using universal USB chargers that provide a 5V 1A output.
Diagram Description: An illustration shows the doorbell connected via a USB cable to a power source.
LED Indication:
- Charging: Solid orange
- Fully charged: Solid blue
Charging Time: Approximately 6 hours from 0% to 100%.
