How the System Works

The video doorbell system consists of two main parts: the video doorbell unit installed at your door and the HomeBase unit located inside your house. The video doorbell detects motion at your porch, allowing you to answer the door remotely. The HomeBase stores video clips on its internal storage. When the doorbell is rung, occupants in the house are notified.

Diagram shows a house with the video doorbell mounted outside the front door, connected wirelessly to a HomeBase inside, which is connected to a router. A doorbell chime is also shown inside the house.

Step 1: Connecting the HomeBase

Connect the HomeBase 2 to the Internet

  1. Power on the HomeBase 2. Connect the provided Ethernet cable from the HomeBase 2 to your home router.
  2. The LED indicator on the HomeBase 2 will turn blue, which may take up to 1 minute, indicating it is ready for setup.

Step 2: Setting Up the System

Download the App and Set up the System

Download the eufy Security app from the App Store (for iOS devices) or Google Play (for Android devices).

Sign up for a eufy Security account and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup process.

Step 3: Determining the Power Option

Option 1 - Battery Powered

  1. If you do not have existing doorbell wiring at your front door, use the built-in battery. This option offers flexibility in doorbell placement and ease of mounting.
  2. When the doorbell's battery level is low, it needs to be detached and charged.
  3. If you choose this option, proceed to STEP 4: FINDING A MOUNTING SPOT.

Note: Battery life varies based on usage. In typical scenarios with up to 10 events per day and 20-second recordings, the battery can last up to 6 months.

Option 2 - Doorbell Wire Powered

  1. If you have existing and working doorbell wiring, the doorbell will be powered continuously by the wires, eliminating the need for detachment and charging.
  2. Mounting position is limited due to the wired connection.
  3. If you choose this option, refer to Appendix 3: Powering the Doorbell with Doorbell Wires.

Diagram illustrates an 8-24V AC Doorbell Wiring connection.

Step 4: Finding a Mounting Spot

Find a Mounting Spot

Take the video doorbell to your front door and use the app to view the live feed. Identify a location that provides the desired field of view.

Consider the following factors:

  1. Check if existing holes and anchors on the wall or door frame can be reused.
  2. If placing the doorbell near a side wall, ensure the wall does not obstruct the field of view. Otherwise, IR light reflection may cause blurry night vision.
  3. For new installations, the recommended mounting height is 48 inches (1.2 meters) from the ground.
  4. Use the 15° mounting wedge as an accessory bracket to achieve a better view on a specific side.

Diagrams show field of view comparison: without 15° wedge (wider, shorter range) and with 15° wedge (narrower, angled view). Another diagram shows recommended mounting height of 1.2m (48 inches).

Step 5: Mounting the Bracket

Mount the Doorbell on a Wooden Surface

For wooden surfaces, pre-drilling pilot holes is not required. Use the provided screws to secure the Mounting Bracket to the wall. The Screw Hole Positioning Card helps align the screw holes.

What is required: Screwdriver, Mounting Bracket, 15° Mounting Wedge (Optional), Screw Packs.

Diagrams show the process of mounting the bracket on a wall, with and without the 15° mounting wedge.

Mount the Doorbell on Surfaces Made Out of Hard Materials

For hard materials like brick, concrete, or stucco:

  1. Drill 2 holes through the Screw Hole Positioning Card using a 15/64" (6mm) drill bit.
  2. Insert the provided anchors, then use the provided long screws to secure the Mounting Bracket to the wall.

What is required: Power Drill, 15/64" (6 mm) Drill Bit, Mounting Bracket, 15° Mounting Wedge (Optional), Screw Packs.

Diagrams show drilling into a wall with a power drill and mounting the bracket with anchors and screws, with and without the 15° wedge.

Step 6: Mounting the Doorbell

Align the doorbell on top and snap it onto the bottom. Press down until it clicks into place. You are now set!

Diagram shows the doorbell being attached to the mounted bracket.

If you need to detach the doorbell or recharge it, please refer to the relevant sections.

Appendix 1: Detaching the Doorbell

Detach the Doorbell

  1. Use the provided doorbell detaching pin to detach the doorbell from the Mounting Bracket.
  2. Press and hold the hole located on the bottom of the doorbell, then lift its bottom section to remove it.

What is required: Doorbell Detaching Pin.

Diagram shows the use of the doorbell detaching pin.

Appendix 2: Recharging the Doorbell

Appendix 3: Powering the Doorbell with Existing Doorbell Wires

3.1 Verify whether the doorbell wires are working

  1. Ring the existing doorbell to test its functionality. If it does not ring, your doorbell wires might be defective. Power the eufy doorbell using its battery or consult an electrician to repair the wires.
  2. Turn off the power at the circuit breaker. Verify the power is off by trying to turn lights on/off in your home.

Always handle wires with care. If you are not comfortable with the installation, seek assistance from a qualified electrician.

3.2 Detach the Existing Doorbell Button

If you have existing doorbell wiring:

  1. Remove the existing doorbell button using a Phillips-Head screwdriver (not provided).
  2. Carefully pull out the two wires while removing the existing doorbell. Straighten the wire ends if necessary.

3.3 Find a Mounting Spot

Determine the optimal mounting position for the doorbell. Consider the following:

  1. Check for existing holes and anchors on the wall or door frame that can be reused.
  2. If drilling new mounting holes, the recommended height is 48 inches (1.2 meters) from the ground.
  3. Utilize the 15° mounting wedge as a supplementary bracket for a better side view.

Diagrams show field of view comparison with and without the 15° wedge, and recommended mounting height.

Place the Screw Hole Positioning Card against the wall to mark the screw hole positions.

3.4 Mount the Bracket

For wooden surfaces: No pre-drilling is needed. Use the provided screws to secure the Mounting Bracket. The Screw Hole Positioning Card indicates screw hole positions.

What is required: Phillips-Head Screwdriver, Mounting Bracket, 15° Mounting Wedge (Optional), Screw Packs.

For hard materials (brick, concrete, stucco):

  1. Drill 2 holes through the Screw Hole Positioning Card using a 15/64" (6mm) drill bit.
  2. Insert provided anchors and use long screws to secure the Mounting Bracket.

What is required: Power Drill, 15/64" (6mm) Drill Bit, Mounting Bracket, 15° Mounting Wedge (Optional), Screw Packs.

Diagrams illustrate mounting the bracket on wooden and hard surfaces, with and without the 15° wedge.

3.5 Connect the Doorbell Wires to the Doorbell

Connect the wires to the terminals at the back of the doorbell and tighten the terminal screws. Wire connections can be made to any terminal.

What is required: Wires and Wire Nuts (Optional), Video Doorbell, Philips-head Screwdriver.

Note:

  • To prevent short circuits, ensure wires do not touch each other after connecting to the terminals.
  • If wires are too short, use the provided extension wires and wire nuts. Electrical wiring tape can be used if there is insufficient space for wire nuts.

Diagram shows connecting wires to the doorbell terminals.

3.6 Mount the Doorbell on the Bracket

Align the doorbell on top and snap it onto the bottom. Press down until it clicks into place.

Diagram shows the doorbell being attached to the bracket.

3.7 Restore Power

Switch the master circuit breaker back to ON.

You are now set!

If you need to detach the doorbell or recharge it, please refer to the corresponding sections.
