HomeLink RF Transceiver Programming Guide
Safety Precautions
WARNING:
Do not use the radio frequency (RF) transceiver with a garage door opener that is not equipped with an emergency stop and reverse function, as required by safety regulations.
WARNING:
When programming the RF transceiver to operate a garage door or driveway gate, ensure no people or objects are in front of the door or gate. Activating the garage door/gate during programming may cause damage.
CAUTION:
The device may be susceptible to interference when used in the range of a mobile or stationary transmitter. Interference affects both the handheld transmitter and the RF transceiver.
See INFORMATION AND SUPPORT.
In some countries, the RF transceiver is also known as the HomeLink® universal transceiver.
The RF transceiver is located in the rearview mirror. The RF transceiver can be programmed to transmit signals for up to three different portable transmitters. The RF transceiver can be used to operate garage doors, driveway gates, home lighting, security systems, and other radio-controlled devices.

Before Programming
CAUTION:
Disconnect the remote device if repeated use of the handheld transmitter is required during the programming of the remote device. Repeated use of the handheld transmitter during the programming of the remote device may damage the remote device.
For best results, install a new battery in the handheld transmitter before beginning programming. If the remote device receiver is equipped with an antenna, ensure it is extended.
Programming
Notes
The following instructions apply to most systems compatible with HomeLink. However, some HomeLink applications or compatible systems may require slightly different instructions. For more information and to access video tutorials, visit: www.homelink.com.
Garage door openers manufactured after 1995 may be protected by a rolling code. In this case, a ladder or other sturdy structure may be required to safely access the "Learn" or "Smart" button on the garage door opener control device.

If necessary, reset previous HomeLink device settings. See DELETING PROGRAMMING.
To program a HomeLink device:
- With the ignition on, press and release the desired HomeLink button (1) on the rearview mirror. The LED indicator on the rearview mirror (2) will flash amber.
- Position the remote control transmitter (3) 2 to 8 cm from the HomeLink button.
- Press and hold the button on the remote control transmitter. The LED indicator on the rearview mirror will flash or glow solid green. Release the remote control transmitter button.
Notes
Some remote device systems require pressing the remote control transmitter button every 2 seconds during programming. For additional information, see the section "Using the Remote Control Transmitter" in the PROGRAMMING section.
- To activate the device, press and release the programmed HomeLink button up to three times. If the device activates, programming is complete. If the device does not activate, proceed to steps 5 through 7.
- Locate the Learn or Smart button on the power unit, which is located on the receiver of the garage door opener control device.
Notes
The Learn or Smart button is usually located directly on the power unit. If in doubt, consult the owner's manual for the garage door opener control device to locate the button.
- Press and release the Learn or Smart button. Step 7 usually requires 30 seconds to complete.
- Return to the vehicle. To activate the device, press and release the programmed HomeLink button up to three times. If the device activates, programming is complete.
Using the Remote Control Transmitter
Some remote device systems have a remote control signal that operates for a short period. The signal expires before programming is complete. Pressing the remote control transmitter button every 2 seconds during programming is required.
If you experience difficulties programming the remote device, do the following:
During programming of the remote device, perform the following instead of step 3:
- Press and hold the HomeLink button. Simultaneously press and release the remote control transmitter button every 2 seconds until the LED indicator begins to flash or glow solid green. Release the HomeLink button and the remote control transmitter button.
- Continue the programming procedure from step 4.
If, after completing the above steps, the HomeLink LED indicator does not flash or glow solid green, contact HomeLink via the website www.homelink.com.
