Tow Bar Type

This document pertains to the GDW Ref. 1452 tow bar, which includes a retractable system (T36 Escamotable).

Step 1: Prepare Vehicle

Disassemble the bumper and remove the exhaust from its suspension rubbers.

Step 2: Mount Chassis Brackets

Place mounting pieces (1) and (2) against the underside of the chassis beam on the provided screw-thread holes. Use washers (ø27x13x2.5mm) at points (A) and (G) between the chassis beam and mounting pieces to bridge any height differences. Insert bolts and washers but do not tighten yet. Position the tow bar with points (C) and (D) onto the already mounted pieces (1) and (2) until they align. Insert bolts and tighten all previously inserted bolts firmly.

Step 3: Mount Tow Bar Arms

Place mounting pieces (3) and (4) with points (E) on the tow bar and points (F) on the designated mounting points on the far left and right of the bodywork. Insert bolts and washers and tighten securely.

Step 4: Prepare Bumper and Mount Components

Make a cut in the underside of the bumper as per the drawing (see Bumper Cut-out Diagram). Mount the fixing plates for the ball T45 or the housing for the T36 retractable system, along with the safety eye and the socket holder. Mount the bumper onto the vehicle and re-attach the exhaust in its rubbers.

Step 5: Final Assembly of Ball Mount

Mount the ball T45 between the fixing plates, insert bolts and tighten firmly.

This diagram illustrates the area on the underside of the bumper that needs to be cut to accommodate the tow bar system.

"B" = The bumper
"O" = The lower rim of the bumper
"M" = The middle of the bumper
The hatched/shaded area must be cut away.

Clearance Specifications

These diagrams show the required clearances around the tow bar mounting points and the hitch ball, as specified by guideline 94/20/EG.

Diagrams indicate minimum and maximum dimensions and angles (e.g., min. 140mm, max. 45°, max. R40). The clearance specified in appendix VII, diagram 30 of guideline 94/20/EG must be guaranteed. This applies to the permissible total weight of the vehicle.

Torque Specifications

Ensure all bolts and nuts are tightened to the specified torque values for safe operation.
