  5. Replace the battery compartment lid by twisting it clockwise until it is firmly in place.

Important:

  • Non-rechargeable and rechargeable batteries must be disposed of properly in designated communal collection centers.
  • Batteries are extremely dangerous if swallowed. Keep away from infants. Seek immediate medical advice if a battery is swallowed.
  • The supplied batteries must not be recharged, reactivated, dismantled, or put into fire or short-circuited.

Wearing the Chest Belt and Watch

Chest Belt

The heart rate chest belt counts your heartbeat and transmits data to the watch. To wear the chest belt:

  1. Wet the conductive pads on the underside of the chest belt with a few drops of water or conductive gel to ensure solid contact.
  2. Strap the heart rate chest belt across your chest. Adjust the strap so the belt sits snugly below your pectoral muscles for an accurate heart rate signal.

Tips:

  • Chest belt position affects performance. Move the belt along the strap so it falls above your heart. Avoid areas with dense chest hair.
  • In dry, cold climates, it may take several minutes for the chest belt to function steadily. This is normal and should improve with exercise.

Transmission Signal

The heart rate chest belt and watch have a maximum transmission range of about 62.5 cm (25 inches). The [Signal Indicator Icon] flashes when the watch is receiving a signal from the chest belt.

Note: If the watch is idle without receiving a heart rate signal for 5 minutes, the heart rate receiver will turn off.

In the event of a weak signal (watch displays "0") or signal disruption:

  • Shorten the distance between the heart rate chest belt and watch.
  • Re-adjust the position of the heart rate chest belt.
  • Check that the conductive pads are moist enough for solid contact.
  • Check batteries; low or exhausted batteries can affect transmission range.

Warning: Signal interference may cause incorrect or unstable heart rate readings due to electromagnetic disturbances (e.g., near high voltage power lines, traffic lights, electric railways, car motors, cellular phones, or electric security gates).

Note: If the watch is idle without receiving a heart rate signal for 5 minutes, the Heart Rate receiver will turn off.

Activity Level

Activity level is based on self-assessment of regular exercise amount:

Activity Level Description
0 (Low) You do not usually participate in programmed recreation sports or exercise.
1 (Medium) Engaged in modest physical activity (e.g., golfing, horseback riding, table tennis, calisthenics, bowling, weight lifting, gymnastics) 2-3 times a week, totaling 1 hour per week.
2 (High) Actively and regularly participate in heavy physical exercise (e.g., running, jogging, swimming, cycling, skipping rope) or vigorous aerobic exercise (e.g., tennis, basketball, handball).

About the Fitness Index

Fitness Index

Your watch generates a fitness index based on aerobic fitness, measured by maximum oxygen uptake (VO2 Max). VO2 Max is the highest oxygen amount utilized during demanding exercise. Factors include lungs, heart, blood, circulatory system, and muscles. The unit is ml/kg/min.

A higher index indicates better fitness. Refer to the tables below for a guide:

Fitness Index for Men

AVERAGE: 27-32, GOOD: 37-42. (Values below 27 are FAIR).

Fitness Index for Women

AVERAGE: 25-30, GOOD: 35-40. (Values below 25 are FAIR).

View Fitness Index

Your fitness index displays after user profile entry. You can also press MEM while in user profile mode to view it.

About the Smart Training Program (Timer Mode)

The Smart Training Program guides you through exercise cycles, from warm-up to cool-down. It monitors heart rate, alerts you if you exceed upper/lower limits, and tracks calories consumed. The program can be set for different activities (e.g., running vs. weight training).

Exercise duration can be adjusted. Once your user profile is set, your lower and upper heart rate limits are automatic. You can manually adjust them, and they will update if the target activity level changes.

Target Activity Levels

Target Activity %MHR* Description
0 Health Maintenance 65-78% Lowest target activity level, good for beginners and strengthening cardiovascular systems.
1 Aerobic Exercise 65%-85% Increases strength and endurance, works within oxygen intake capability, burns more calories, and can be maintained long-term.
2 Anaerobic Exercise 78-90% Generates speed and power, works at or above oxygen intake capability, builds muscle, and cannot be maintained long-term.

* MHR = Maximum Heart Rate

Calculating Maximum / Lower / Upper Heart Rate Limit

To achieve maximum health benefits, know your:

  • Maximum heart rate (MHR)
  • Lower heart rate limit
  • Upper heart rate limit

The unit determines MHR automatically for setting limits. You can also calculate and set them manually:

  • MHR = 220 - age
  • Lower Limit = MHR x lower target activity % (e.g., 65% for target activity 0)
  • Upper Limit = MHR x upper target activity % (e.g., 78% for target activity 0)

Training Information

How the Heart Rate Monitor Helps You

A heart rate monitor is a vital tool for cardiovascular health and an ideal training partner. It allows you to monitor results, assess performance, maximize workouts, and adapt your program for safer, more effective goal achievement. The chest belt picks up your heartbeat and sends it to the watch for real-time monitoring. As you get fitter, your heart needs to work less, decreasing heart rate speed. This is because your heart pumps more blood per beat, requiring fewer beats to deliver necessary oxygen to muscles.

Training Tips

To maximize training benefits and ensure safety, observe these guidelines:

  • Start with a clear goal (weight loss, fitness, competition).
  • Select enjoyable activities and vary them to exercise different muscle groups.
  • Begin slowly and gradually increase intensity as fitness improves. Exercise regularly; 20-30 minutes, three times a week, is recommended for cardiovascular health.
  • Always include at least five minutes for warm-up and cool-down.
  • The health maintenance zone offers the lowest intensity, suitable for beginners strengthening cardiovascular systems.
  • The aerobic exercise zone builds strength and endurance, burns more calories, and can be sustained longer.
  • The anaerobic exercise zone generates speed and power, builds muscle, and cannot be sustained long-term.
  • Measure your pulse after training and again after three minutes. If it doesn't return to resting rate, you may have trained too hard.
  • Consult your doctor before starting any vigorous training program.
