Indicator Light Status
Status | Description |

Safety Precautions
To ensure safe operation and user safety, please read and follow these guidelines:
- Use the adapter indoors only. Do not place it outdoors.
- Avoid placing the adapter in hot/humid locations (e.g., kitchen, bathroom).
- The adapter contains small parts that may pose a risk to children under 3 years old. Keep out of reach of children.
- Do not place the adapter on flammable materials like paper or fabric, as it can become hot during use.
- The adapter has no user-repairable parts. Contact your reseller for assistance.
- If the adapter becomes wet, cease use immediately and consult a qualified electrician if necessary.
Installation
Follow these steps to install the adapter:
- Turn on your computer and insert the USB adapter into a free USB port. Do not force it.
- If a "Found New Hardware" or driver installation prompt appears, click "Cancel" or "Close".
- Insert the included CD-ROM into your computer's CD drive.

For Windows users, the installation wizard should launch automatically. For Mac users, navigate to the "Mac" folder on the CD. Linux drivers are in the "Linux" folder.
If the CD does not autorun, manually open the "AutoRun" folder and execute "Autorun.exe" to start the installation wizard.
- Follow the instructions specific to your operating system in the appropriate chapter.
Windows Installation
If the CD does not autorun, navigate to the "AutoRun" folder and run "Autorun.exe" to launch the setup wizard.
- Click on the EW-7811Un wireless USB adapter to proceed. The setup wizard will display the adapter.
- Click "Install Driver" to install the drivers for your EW-7811Un.
- Wait for the setup wizard to prepare, then click "Next".
- Please be patient while the driver installation completes. A progress bar will indicate the status.
- Before you can use the wireless adapter, you must restart your computer. After installation is finished, you will be prompted to restart immediately or later. Click "Finish" to continue.
- Click "Quit" to exit the installation wizard.
After restarting your computer, the EW-7811Un will be installed and ready. If you have other wireless adapters, disable them as described in Section V. Windows users can then connect to a Wi-Fi network as usual.
Mac OS Installation
Ensure you select the correct driver file for your Mac OS version. To verify your Mac OS version, click the Apple logo in the top-left corner and select "About This Mac".
- Open the "Wlan_11ac_USB_MacOS10..." folder corresponding to your Mac OS X version (10.4 - 10.9) and double-click the "Installer.pkg" file to launch the driver installation wizard.
- Click "Continue" to proceed to the next step.
- Read the important information presented on the screen carefully. After driver installation, you will need to enable the wireless adapter in "System Preferences → Network". You can print or save this information if needed. Click "Continue" when ready.
- If an older version of the software is already installed, uninstall it first.
- Select your language and click "Continue" to install the driver.
- To read the software license, click "Read License" and then "Agree" to confirm acceptance of the terms. You must accept the terms to continue.
- Click "Install" to install the driver.
- You may be prompted to enter your system/administrator password. Enter your password and click "Install Software".
- At the end of the installation, you will be prompted to restart your computer. Click "Continue Installation" to proceed.
- Please wait while the driver installation completes.
- When the installation is finished, you will see a "The installation was successful" screen. Click "Restart" to reboot your computer.
- After the system restarts and the adapter is connected, the wireless utility should open automatically. If you see a notice, enable the adapter in "System Preferences → Network" as described in Step 3 of the driver installation. If the utility does not open, you can launch it from the "Applications" menu on your Mac.
- Navigate to "System Preferences → Network". A window will appear indicating a new interface has been detected. Click "OK" to close the window and then click "Apply" in the "Network" pane.
- Finally, disable any other wireless adapters as described in Section V. Mac users can then connect to a Wi-Fi network using the provided utility. Refer to Section VI. Using the Adapter for details.
Driver Uninstallation
Windows
Windows XP/Vista/7
- Go to Start > Programs > Edimax Wireless LAN > Uninstall.
- Follow the on-screen instructions provided by the uninstallation wizard.
Windows 8/8.1
- Right-click on the Start screen and select "All apps" at the bottom right.
- Locate the "Edimax Wireless LAN" category, select "Uninstall", and follow the on-screen instructions.
Mac OS
Ensure you select the correct folder for your Mac OS version. To verify your Mac OS version, click the Apple logo and select "About This Mac".
- Open the "Wlan_11ac_USB_MacOS10..." folder for your Mac OS X version (10.4 - 10.9).
- Double-click the "Uninstall.command" file and follow the on-screen instructions.
Using the Adapter
After installing the driver and disabling other wireless adapters (see Section V), you can connect to a Wi-Fi network.
Windows Connection
This example uses Windows Vista; steps may vary slightly for other Windows versions.
- Click the network icon in the notification area and select "Connect to a network".
- Find your Wi-Fi network's SSID and click "Connect". You will be prompted to enter your password if one is set.
- After entering the correct password, your connection to the Wi-Fi network will be successful.
Mac OS Connection
The wireless utility should open automatically when the adapter is connected. If not, open it from the "Applications" menu.
- Click the "Available Network" tab in the wireless utility. Select a Wi-Fi network to connect to and click "Connect".
- Enter the network password (network key) and confirm it below, then click "OK".
- After entering your password, the Wi-Fi connection will be successful. A connection summary will be displayed on the "Link Status" page.
Advanced Features
Mac Wireless Utility
The wireless utility provides functions for monitoring and configuring your connection.
Link Status
The "Link Status" page displays information about the current wireless connection, including MAC Address, SSID, Signal Strength, and Link Speed. It also features a "Turn Radio Off" button.
Profiles
The "Profiles" screen allows you to save different Wi-Fi connection settings. You can "Add", "Edit", "Remove", "Duplicate", or "Apply" profiles. Adding a profile involves entering a profile name, SSID, and security information.
Available Network
The "Available Network" screen lists all available Wi-Fi networks within range, along with details like SSID, Channel, Network Type, Encryption, and BSSID. You can "Refresh" the list, "Connect" to a network, or "Add to Profile".
WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup)
WPS offers a simple way to establish connections between WPS-compatible devices. It can be activated via a WPS button on your router or through the router's web interface.
- PBC (Push Button Configuration): Press the WPS button on your router/access point. Within two minutes, click the "PBC" button in the adapter's utility. The adapter will establish a connection.
- WPS PIN Code: The adapter's PIN is displayed in the "WPS" section. Enter this PIN into your router's web interface and activate the WPS PIN function on your router. Alternatively, select your router from the "SSID" list in the adapter's "WPS" screen and click the "PIN" button within two minutes.
Information
The "Information" screen displays details such as the wireless utility version and driver version.
