FCC: equipment identifiers and grantee codes ↗

  1. Copy the complete FCC ID

Look for the identifier printed after “FCC ID” on the label, packaging, or regulatory information screen. Preserve its letters, numbers, and punctuation. A general FCC logo is different from a complete FCC ID.

  2. Search and compare the record

Try the full identifier in manual search. The FCC’s equipment authorization search is another source for checking identification records. Compare the applicant, model details, and available exhibits with your device.

  3. Check which device the instructions cover

A label may identify an internal radio module. Confirm that the manual covers the finished product you want to use, including its controls and functions, before following setup instructions.

Common questions

How to save or print a manual →
Is FCC ID a product brand?

An FCC ID is an equipment identifier used in the FCC equipment authorization system. Search its full value and compare the associated product information; the words “FCC ID” alone are not a model name.

Can an FCC ID help when I do not know the brand?

It can provide another identification clue. Compare the model, applicant, label, and product details from the record with the actual device.

Why does a search show a module instead of my product?

Some finished products contain a separately identified radio module. Its documentation may describe the module rather than the controls and operation of the complete product.
