WARNING:
To prevent electric shock, ensure the lamp is not plugged into an electrical outlet until all assembly steps are complete.
Important Safety Instructions
This portable lamp features a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other) to reduce the risk of electric shock. This plug will fit into a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully into the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Never use with an extension cord unless the plug can be fully inserted. Do not alter the plug.
CAUTION:
To prevent electric shock, match the wide blade of the plug to the wide slot and fully insert it.
Lamp Assembly
The lamp consists of a base, a vertical arm with two pivot joints, and a shade at the top. The base has a screw for attachment, and the lamp features a rocker switch for power.
- Align the base as shown in the diagram (the base is a flat, circular component, and the arm extends vertically from it). Install the base screw loosely by hand.
- Using a screwdriver, tighten the base screw until it is snug (indicated as point A in diagrams, typically at the bottom of the lamp's vertical arm where it connects to the base).
Operation
- As needed, tighten or loosen the two pivot joints (indicated as point C in diagrams, located along the vertical arm allowing the lamp to bend) using a coin. Be careful not to overtighten the joints.
- The shade height and angle can be adjusted by grasping the shade and the base and moving the lamp arm up or down.
- The shade can also be rotated right and left at the upper joint.
- Plug the lamp into a standard 120V, 60Hz socket. Your lamp is now ready to use.
- Turn the lamp on or off using the rocker switch (indicated as point D in diagrams, typically on the lamp's base or lower arm).
Please note that OttLite tubes are not dimmable during operation.
Enjoy your OttLite Learning Light!
Tube Insertion/Replacement
The lamp uses a specific light tube. The tube is inserted into a socket located under the shade, and secured by a snapping mechanism. To remove, it requires pushing away from the socket.
- Ensure the lamp is not plugged into an electrical socket.
- If the lamp has been in use, allow it to cool for approximately 5 minutes before proceeding.
- Raise the shade to access the tube socket.
- To install a tube in the socket, hold the tube firmly at the non-base end with your thumb and forefinger. Align it into the socket, then press the base into the socket until it "snaps" into place (indicated as point B in diagrams, where the tube connects to the shade).
- To remove a tube already installed in the lamp, grasp it firmly at the free end between your thumb and forefinger. Use your free hand to push your fingers and the tube away from the socket. Do not twist or turn the tube.
CAUTION:
Take care to prevent the tube end from hitting the shade. Tube breakage may result.
- Return the shade to the desired position.
