Important Safety Instructions
- Keep away from children and pets. Keep hands away from paper entry. Always set the power switch to OFF (⚫) or unplug when not in use.
- Keep foreign objects (gloves, jewelry, clothing, hair, etc.) away from shredder openings. If an object enters the top opening, switch to Reverse (?) to back out the object.
- Never use aerosol products, petroleum-based lubricants, or other flammable products on or near the shredder. Do not use canned air on the shredder.
- Do not use if damaged or defective. Do not disassemble the shredder.
- Do not place near or over a heat source or water.
- Operation, maintenance, and service requirements are covered in the instruction manual. Read the entire manual before operating.
- The Disconnect Power Switch (G) must be in the ON (▶️) position to operate. In case of emergency, move the switch to OFF (⚫) to stop the shredder immediately.
- Avoid touching exposed cutting blades under the shredder head.
- Plug into a properly grounded wall outlet or socket of the designated voltage and amperage. The outlet must be easily accessible. Do not use energy converters, transformers, or extension cords.
- FIRE HAZARD: Do NOT shred greeting cards with sound chips or batteries.
- For indoor use only.
FCC Compliance: This equipment complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules for Class B digital devices, designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in residential installations. If interference occurs, try reorienting the receiving antenna, increasing separation between equipment and receiver, connecting to a different circuit, or consulting a dealer/technician.
Basic Setup: Caster Installation
Follow these steps to install the casters:
- Unpack the shredder.
- Align the casters with the mounting points on the shredder base.
- Push casters firmly into place until they click.
- Repeat for all casters.
- Ensure all casters are securely attached.
Basic Shredding Operation
Continuous operation: 12-minute maximum. The shredder runs briefly after each pass to clear the entry. Continuous operation beyond 12 minutes triggers a 20-minute cool-down period.
Steps:
- Plug in the shredder and set the disconnect power switch (G) to ON (▶️).
- Press the ON/OFF button (9) to activate the shredder (blue light ?).
- Feed paper straight into the paper entry (B) and release.
- To shred CDs or credit cards, rotate the safety flap (D) into place.
- Hold cards/CDs at the edge and feed into the center of the entry and release.
- When finished shredding, set the disconnect power switch (G) to OFF (⚫).
Advanced Product Features
100% Jam Proof System
Eliminates paper jams and powers through tough jobs. Advanced Jam Prevention electronically measures paper thickness to prevent jams:
- ? RED: Too many sheets inserted.
- ? YELLOW: Productivity optimized.
- ? GREEN: More sheets can be added.
If a misfeed occurs: All indicators light up, and the shredder pauses for 3-6 seconds. Remove several sheets until the indicator is below red. Wait for flashing to stop after automatic correction; regular shredding will resume. (100% Jam Proof when used in accordance with the user manual).
SafeSense® Technology
Stops shredding immediately when hands touch the paper opening.
Set-up and Testing:
- Turn the shredder ON (▶️) to activate SafeSense®.
- Touch the test area near the paper entry and look for the SafeSense® indicator (?) to illuminate.
- SafeSense® is active and working properly.
If the indicator illuminates after paper has been reversed, press reverse (?) and remove paper. Otherwise, regular shredding will resume.
SilentShred™ Technology
Provides quiet shredding without noisy disruptions.
Product Maintenance
Oiling Shredder
Cross-cut shredders require oil for peak performance. Oiling prevents diminished sheet capacity, intrusive noise, and potential shutdown. Fellowes recommends oiling each time the waste bin is emptied.
Oiling Procedure (Repeat twice):
- Apply oil across the paper entry (B).
- Press and hold the forward (▶️) button for 2-3 seconds.
CAUTION: Only use a non-aerosol vegetable oil in a long nozzle container, such as Fellowes 35250.
Cleaning Auto-Start Infrared Sensors
Paper detection sensors may become blocked by paper dust, causing the motor to run even if no paper is present. (Two sensors are located in the center of the paper entry).
To Clean the Sensors:
- Turn off and unplug the shredder.
- Locate the auto-start infrared sensors in the paper entry.
- Dip a cotton swab in rubbing alcohol.
- Using the cotton swab, wipe away any contamination from the paper sensors.
Troubleshooting
Indicator Lights
- A. Overheat Indicator (?): Shredder has exceeded maximum operating temperature and needs to cool down. Shredder will not operate until cool.
- B. Bin Open (?): Shredder will not run if the bin is open. Close the bin to resume.
- C. Bin Full (?): Waste bin is full and needs emptying. Use Fellowes waste bag 36052.
- D. Remove Paper (?): Press reverse (?) and remove paper. Reduce paper quantity and refeed.
- E. SafeSense® Indicator (?): Hands are too close to the paper entry. Shredder stops. If SafeSense® is active for 3 seconds, it automatically turns off. Press the power button to resume.
Jam Proof System Disabling
To disable: Press and hold the Auto button (?) and the Reverse (?) key simultaneously.
Once disabled: The blue Auto light (?) is no longer illuminated. To re-engage, repeat the disabling step.
Shredding can continue with the system disabled, but a paper jam may occur with too many sheets, and the "Remove Paper" icon (?) will illuminate.
If a jam occurs: Press and hold the forward (▶️) key until the document is completely through the shredder.
If not cleared: Press reverse (?) briefly. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until shredded.
If steps 4 and 5 do not clear jam: Reverse paper all the way out, remove several sheets, and refeed.
