Thank you for purchasing the BOYA BY-WM4. This is a compact wireless microphone system designed for reliable and trouble-free performance. It is compatible with smartphones, tablets, DSLR cameras, camcorders, audio recorders, PCs, and other audio/video devices.
Safety Information
Please read these instructions for use thoroughly before operating this equipment for the first time. They contain important operating and maintenance information.
- Do not use this microphone near water and clean only with a dry cloth.
- Only use attachments/accessories specified by the manufacturer.
- Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. Servicing is required when the apparatus has been damaged in any way, such as liquid spills, objects falling into the apparatus, exposure to rain or moisture, abnormal operation, or if it has been dropped.
- To protect the device from damage or malfunction, do not expose it to rain, moisture, or excessive humidity.
- Batteries should not be exposed to excessive heat, such as direct sunlight, fire, or being left in a hot car.
- Take great care when using the microphone around moving objects or in situations where the cable could be suddenly tugged or pulled.

Transmitter
Microphone Input
Connect the supplied lavalier microphone here. Ensure the 3.5mm plug is fully inserted and clicks into place.
Line In
Line In port.
Power LED
Indicates power status: Flashing blue when ON, solid red when low power.
Power OFF/ON
Switch for turning the unit ON or OFF.
Button +/-
Used for connecting signals. Refer to the "How to connect transmitter and receiver" section.
Antenna
Do not touch during use to avoid affecting signal.
Battery Compartment
Accommodates one AA battery.
Clip
For attaching the unit.
Receiver
Earphone Jack
3.5mm stereo mini jack for monitoring receiver output. Do not connect monaural mini jacks to avoid short-circuiting.
LINE OUT (Audio Output) Jack
For connecting to devices. Use the supplied TRRS cable for smartphones/tablets/Mac, and the TRS cable for cameras/camcorders/recorders.
Power LED
Indicates power status. Refer to the "Power LED" section for details.
Power OFF/ON
Switch for turning the unit ON or OFF.
Volume +/-
Press these buttons to set the attenuation level of the input signal.
Antenna
Do not touch during use to avoid affecting signal.
Battery Compartment
Accommodates one AA battery.
Clip
For attaching the unit.
Shoe Mount Adapter
For mounting onto camera hot/cold shoes.
LED Indicator Status
- Unit is turned ON: Receiver flashes, Transmitter flashes continually every 2.5 seconds.
- Wireless communication is established: Receiver flashes, Transmitter flashes continually every 2.5 seconds.
- Receiver unit is turned OFF (Transmitter is still ON): Receiver is Off, Transmitter flashes.
- Transmitter unit is turned OFF (Receiver is still ON): Receiver flashes, Transmitter is Off.
- Low power: Both Receiver and Transmitter flash red.
Connector Types
3.5mm TRRS Connector
For Smartphones, Tablets, or Mac. Connects to the Receiver's LINE OUT jack and the device's audio jack.
3.5mm TRS Connector
For Cameras, Camcorders, Audio Recorders, and other audio/video devices. Connects to the Receiver's LINE OUT jack and the device's audio input.
Battery Precautions
- Use only batteries mentioned in these operating instructions.
- Do not lay the batteries in a fire and do not expose them to direct heat.
- To avoid damage to the product, remove batteries if the product is not used for a long period or if batteries have been discharged.
- If battery fluid contacts skin or clothes, rinse immediately with fresh water.
How to Use
Installing Batteries
Both the transmitter and receiver require one AA size battery. Slide and remove the battery compartment cover, insert one battery, and close the cover. Repeat for the other unit.
Connecting Transmitter and Receiver
The transmitter and receiver are pre-connected before leaving the factory. If they become disconnected, follow these steps:
- Turn on the receiver.
- Press the "+" and "-" buttons on the receiver simultaneously for 3 seconds.
- Repeat steps 1 and 2 for the transmitter.
If the LED lights on both units flash blue, they are connected successfully. Otherwise, repeat the steps.
Using with Smartphone, Tablet, or Mac
- Mount the receiver to your smartphone, tablet, or Mac.
- Using the TRRS cable, plug the 3.5mm connector (straight plug) into your device's audio jack.
- Insert the 90° plug of the connecting cable into the receiver's "LINE OUT" jack.
- Insert earphones into the receiver's earphone jack for monitoring sound.
- Slide the power ON/OFF switch to the ON position. The LED indicator will light blue.
Transmitter Setup
- Insert the lavalier/lapel microphone into the transmitter's microphone input.
- Slide the power ON/OFF switch to the ON position. The LED indicator will light blue.
- Use the clip on the back to attach the transmitter to a belt or place it in a pocket.
Note: If the transmitter and receiver are connected, the light flashes every 2.5 seconds. If disconnected, the light flashes rapidly.
Using with Cameras, Camcorders, and Other Devices
- Mount the receiver to your camera, camcorder, or other audio/video recording device.
- Using the TRS cable, plug the 3.5mm connector into your device's audio input jack.
- Insert the other end of the connecting cable into the receiver's "LINE OUT" jack.
- Insert earphones into the receiver's earphone jack for monitoring sound.
- Slide the power ON/OFF switch to the ON position. The LED indicator will light blue.
Transmitter Setup
- Install the lavalier/lapel microphone by clipping it onto clothing.
- Adjust the direction of the microphone towards your mouth by rotating it.
Mounting Receiver onto Camera Hot/Cold Shoe
- Push the clip on the receiver to the right side.
- Screw the shoe mount adapter to the receiver.
- Mount the receiver onto the camera's hot/cold shoe.

Caution
- Please use the original Audio Signal Cable provided for better compatibility and sound quality.
- The stated operation range is approximate and applies when there are no obstructions. Distance may vary depending on metal objects, people, and other obstructions.
- Battery life may vary depending on the type of battery used.
- If not using the wireless microphone for a long period, remove the batteries from both units.
- Do not touch the lavalier/lapel microphone, transmitter, or receiver while recording, as this will cause noise.
- Do not place the transmitter near high-voltage equipment or devices emitting strong electromagnetic fields, as this may cause noise.
- Do not use or leave the transmitter and receiver in hot, humid places.
- Do not leave the receiver attached to the camera when storing the camera in a case.
- Ensure correct transmitter and receiver pairing.
Maintenance
- Do not operate the device with wet hands or feet.
- Clean the equipment only as described in these instructions.
- Prevent the equipment from dropping. Ensure the device is properly fastened and reliably mounted. If dropped, have it inspected by a skilled technician before reuse.
- If the equipment is damaged, defective, or emits a scorching smell, immediately remove the batteries to cut power. Do not operate with a damaged housing or attempt self-repair. Have it repaired by a qualified professional.
- Always keep your device in good condition as specified in these instructions.
- Do not open the device.
