Thank you for purchasing BOYA BY-WM4! The BOYA BY-WM4 is a compact wireless microphone system designed for reliable and trouble-free performance. It can work with Smartphones, Tablets, DSLR cameras, Camcorders, Audio recorders, PCs, and other audio/video devices.

Transmitter
Diagram Description: The transmitter unit features several ports and indicators.
- 1. Microphone input: Connect the supplied lavalier microphone here. Fully insert the microphone's 3.5mm plug and make sure it clicks into place. [microphone-jack]

- The power LED flashes blue when the unit is on.
- The power LED glows red when low power.

Receiver
Diagram Description: The receiver unit features several ports and indicators.
- 1. Earphone Jack (3.5mm diameter stereo mini jack): To monitor the receiver output, connect headphones to this connector. NOTE: Do not connect headphones with a monaural mini jack. This may lead to short-circuiting of the headphone output, resulting in distorted sound output. [headphone-monitoring-jack]
- 2. LINE OUT (audio output) Jack:
- For using Smartphones, tablets, or Macs: connect one end (90° plug) of the supplied TRRS stereo 3.5mm mini output cable here, and the other end (straight plug) to the smartphone.
- For cameras, camcorders, audio recorders, and other audio/video recording devices: connect one end of the supplied TRS stereo 3.5mm mini output cable here, and the other end to the camera.

What's the Difference?
Understanding the different audio output connectors:
- 3.5 mm TRRS connector: For Smartphones, tablets, or Macs.
Connect to Receiver "LINE OUT" [audio-output-jack] with the 90° plug.
Connect to Smartphone [smartphone-audio-port] with the straight plug.
- 3.5 mm TRS connector: For cameras, camcorders, audio recorders, and other audio/video recording devices.
Connect to Receiver "LINE OUT" [audio-output-jack] with one end.
Connect to Camera [camera-audio-port] with the other end.
Precautionary Measures When Using Batteries
Batteries/power packs, if inappropriately handled, can run out or explode. Please observe the following notes on safety when handling batteries to be used in this device:
- Use only batteries mentioned in these operating instructions.
- Do not lay the batteries in a fire and do not expose them to direct heat.
- In order to avoid damage to the product, you must make sure that you remove the batteries if you do not use the product over a longer period of time or if the batteries have been discharged.
- If battery fluid comes into contact with skin or clothes, rinse it off immediately with fresh water.
How to Use
Installing Batteries
Both transmitter and receiver require one AA size battery.
- Slide and remove the transmitter's battery compartment cover.
- Insert one battery.
- Close the battery compartment cover.
- Repeat steps 2 and 3 for the receiver unit.
Connecting the Transmitter and Receiver
Using the Microphone with Smartphone, Tablet, or Mac
- Mount the receiver to your Smartphone, tablet, or Mac. [receiver-mounted-on-device]
- Using the TRRS cable, plug the 3.5 mm connector (straight plug) into the audio jack of your smartphone. [trrs-cable-to-smartphone]
- Insert the 90° plug of the connecting cable into the receiver "LINE OUT" jack. [receiver-audio-out-port]
- Insert earphones into the receiver's earphone jack [receiver-headphone-port] for monitoring sound.
- Slide the power ON/OFF switch to the ON position. The LED indicator will light blue. [power-on-led]
- Insert the lavalier/lapel microphone into the transmitter's microphone input. [transmitter-mic-input-port]
- Slide the transmitter's power ON/OFF switch to the ON position. The LED indicator will light blue. [transmitter-power-on-led]
- The belt clip on the back of the transmitter can be used to clip it onto a belt, or the transmitter can simply be put into a pocket. [transmitter-mounting-clip]
Connection Status: If the transmitter and receiver are connected, the LED will flash every 2.5 seconds. If they are not connected, the LED will flash rapidly.
Pairing: The transmitter and receiver are paired before leaving the factory. If they become disconnected, follow these steps:
- Turn on the receiver.
- Press the "+" and "-" buttons on the receiver simultaneously for 3 seconds.
- Repeat steps 1 and 2 for the transmitter.
If the LED lights on both the transmitter and receiver flash blue, they are connected successfully. Otherwise, repeat steps 1-3.
Using the Microphone with Cameras, Camcorders, Audio Recorders, and Other Audio/Video Recording Devices
- Mount the receiver to your camera, camcorder, audio recorder, or other device. [receiver-mounted-on-camera]
- Using the TRS cable, plug the 3.5 mm connector into the audio jack of your camera. [trs-cable-to-camera]
- Insert the other end of the connecting cable into the receiver "LINE OUT" jack. [receiver-audio-out-port]
- Insert earphones into the receiver's earphone jack [receiver-headphone-port] for monitoring sound.
- Slide the power ON/OFF switch to the ON position. The LED indicator will light blue. [power-on-led]

- Install Microphone:
- The clip is mounted on the microphone before leaving the factory.
- Both transmitter and receiver include clips, allowing mounting in any desired location.
- Adjust the direction of the microphone towards your mouth by rotating it.
Mounting Receiver onto Camera Hot/Cold Shoe:
- Push the clip to the right side. [clip-slide-right]

Cautions
- Please use the original Audio Signal Cable provided, as it is more compatible with the wireless microphone and results in better sound.
- The given range is only an approximate value that applies when there are no obstructions between the transmitter and receiver. This distance will vary depending on metal objects, people, other obstructions, and signal strength.
- Battery life may vary depending on the type of battery used.
Important Notes
- If you do not intend to use the wireless microphone for a long period, please remove the batteries from both the transmitter and receiver.
- Do not touch the lavalier/lapel microphone, transmitter, or receiver while recording, as this will cause noise to be recorded.
- Do not place the transmitter close to high-voltage equipment or devices that emit strong electromagnetic fields, otherwise, it may cause noise to be recorded.
- Do not use or leave the transmitter and receiver in hot, humid places.
- Do not leave the receiver attached to the camera when storing the camera in a case.
- Do not mix up the transmitter and receiver when using them.
Warnings
- Keep the wireless microphone out of the reach of children.
- Never use leaking batteries and never expose batteries to excessive heat or fire.
Maintenance
- Do not operate the device with wet hands or feet.
- Clean the equipment only as described in these instructions for use.
- Take care to prevent the equipment from dropping. Make sure that the device is properly fastened and reliably mounted. If the device has dropped on the floor, have it inspected by a skilled electrician before you switch it on again.
- Should the equipment be damaged or defective, or if you notice a scorching smell: Interrupt the electric power supply immediately by removing the batteries. Do not operate the device with a damaged housing; do not repair the device yourself. Have the device repaired only by a skilled electrician.
- Always keep your device in good condition, as specified in these instructions for use.
