Transmitter
The transmitter is a compact unit designed to capture audio. It features:
- 1. Microphone input: Connect the supplied lavalier microphone here. Ensure the microphone's 3.5mm plug is fully inserted and clicks into place.
- 2. Line In: (Function not detailed in this section)
- 3. Power LED: Indicates the unit's status.
- 4. Power OFF/ON: Switch to turn the unit on or off.

Operation:
- Insert the lavalier/lapel microphone into the transmitter's microphone input.
- Slide the power ON/OFF switch to the ON position; the LED indicator will light blue.
- Use the belt clip on the back to attach the transmitter to a belt, or place it in a pocket.
- If the transmitter and receiver are connected, the light will flash every 2.5 seconds. If not connected, it will flash rapidly.
- The transmitter and receiver are pre-connected before leaving the factory.
- To re-connect if disconnected: Turn on the receiver, press and hold the "+" and "-" buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds. Repeat for the transmitter. Successful connection is indicated by both LEDs flashing blue.
Receiver
The receiver unit connects to your recording device and features:
- 1. Earphone Jack: A 3.5mm diameter stereo mini jack for monitoring audio output. Connect headphones here. NOTE: Do not connect headphones with a monaural mini jack, as this may cause short-circuiting and distorted sound.
- 2. LINE OUT (audio output) Jack: Connects to your audio/video recording devices.
- 3. Power LED: Indicates the unit's status.
- 4. Power OFF/ON: Switch to turn the unit on or off.
- 5. Volume +/-: Buttons to set the attenuation level of the input signal.
- 6. Antenna: Please avoid touching the antenna during use as it may affect signal reception.
- 7. Battery compartment: Accommodates one AA battery.
- 8. Clip: Allows the receiver to be clipped onto clothing or a belt.
- 9. Shoe mount adapter: For mounting the receiver onto a camera's hot/cold shoe.
Connector Types: What's the Difference?
The BY-WM4 system includes two types of audio output cables to ensure compatibility with different devices:
- 3.5mm TRRS connector: This cable is for use with Smartphones, Tablets, and Macs. It features a 90° plug for the receiver and a straight plug for the device's audio jack.
- 3.5mm TRS connector: This cable is for use with cameras, camcorders, audio recorders, and other audio/video recording devices. It features a standard 3.5mm connector for both the receiver and the device.
Precautionary Measures When Using Batteries
Improper handling of batteries can lead to leakage or explosion. Please observe the following safety notes:
- Use only the battery types mentioned in these operating instructions (AA size).
- Do not dispose of batteries in fire or expose them to direct heat.
- To prevent product damage, remove batteries if the product will not be used for an extended period or if the batteries have been discharged.
- If battery fluid comes into contact with skin or clothes, rinse immediately with fresh water.
How to Use
Inserting Batteries
- Both the transmitter and receiver require one AA size battery.
- Slide and remove the battery compartment cover on the transmitter.
- Insert one AA battery.
- Close the battery compartment cover.
- Repeat steps 2-4 for the receiver.
Connecting the Transmitter and Receiver
Using the Microphone with Smartphone, Tablet, or Mac
- Mount the receiver onto your Smartphone, Tablet, or Mac.
- Using the 3.5mm TRRS cable, plug the straight plug into the audio jack of your smartphone/tablet/Mac.
- Insert the 90° plug of the connecting cable into the receiver's "LINE OUT" jack.
- Insert earphones into the receiver's earphone jack for monitoring sound.
- Slide the power ON/OFF switch to the ON position (the LED indicator will light blue).
- Caution: Ensure you use the correct plug for your device; refer to "Connector Types" for details.
Using the Microphone with Cameras, Camcorders, Audio Recorders, and Other Audio/Video Recording Devices
- Mount the receiver onto your camera, camcorder, or other recording device.
- Using the 3.5mm TRS cable, plug the 3.5mm connector into the audio jack of your camera.
- Insert the other end of the connecting cable into the receiver's "LINE OUT" jack.
- Insert earphones into the receiver's earphone jack for monitoring sound.
- Slide the power ON/OFF switch to the ON position (the LED indicator will light blue).
- Caution: Ensure you use the correct audio cable; refer to "Connector Types" for details.

Installing the Microphone
- The clip is pre-mounted on the microphone before leaving the factory.
- Both the transmitter and receiver have clips, allowing them to be mounted anywhere.
- Adjust the microphone's direction towards your mouth by rotating it.
Mounting the Receiver onto a Camera Hot/Cold Shoe
- Push the receiver's clip to the right side.
- Screw the shoe mount adapter onto the receiver.
- Mount the receiver onto the camera's hot/cold shoe.

- Please use the original Audio Signal Cable provided for better compatibility and sound quality.
- The specified operation range is approximate and applies when there are no obstructions between the transmitter and receiver. This distance can vary due to metal objects, people, and other obstructions affecting signal strength.
- Battery life may vary depending on the type of battery used.
IMPORTANT
- If you do not intend to use the wireless microphone for a long period, remove the batteries from both the transmitter and receiver.
- Avoid touching the lavalier/lapel microphone, transmitter, or receiver while recording, as this can cause unwanted noise.
- Do not place the transmitter near high-voltage equipment or devices emitting strong electromagnetic fields, as this may cause noise.
- Do not use or leave the transmitter and receiver in hot or humid conditions.
- Do not leave the receiver attached to the camera when storing the camera in a case.
