How to Use the Training Bike

How to Plug in the Power Cord

This product must be grounded. Grounding provides a path of least resistance for electric current to reduce the risk of electric shock. The power cord has a plug with a grounding pin.

? DANGER: Improper connection of the power cord increases the risk of electric shock. Do not modify the plug; if it will not fit an outlet, have a proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician. If you are unsure whether the product is properly grounded, contact a qualified electrician.

Plug the power cord into an appropriate outlet that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances. The outlet must be on a nominal 120-volt circuit.

Diagram: Grounded Outlet Connection

Exercise Guidelines

⚠️ WARNING: Before beginning any exercise program, consult your physician. This is especially important for persons over age 35 or persons with pre-existing health problems.

These guidelines help plan your exercise program. For detailed information, consult a reputable book or your physician. Proper nutrition and rest are essential.

Exercise Intensity

Exercising at the proper intensity is key to achieving results, whether your goal is fat burning or cardiovascular strengthening. Use your heart rate as a guide.

The chart below shows recommended heart rates for fat burning and aerobic exercise. Find your age at the bottom; the three numbers above your age define your "training zone": lowest for fat burning, middle for maximum fat burning, and highest for aerobic exercise.

Heart Rate Chart (Beats Per Minute)

Age20304050607080
165155145140130125115
145138130125118110103
1251201151101059590

Burning Fat: Exercise at low intensity for sustained periods. Your body uses carbs first, then stored fat. Adjust intensity until heart rate is near the lowest number in your training zone. For maximum fat burning, aim for the middle number.

Aerobic Exercise: To strengthen your cardiovascular system, perform aerobic exercise (activity requiring large oxygen amounts for prolonged periods). Adjust intensity until heart rate is near the highest number in your training zone.

How to Measure Your Heart Rate

Exercise for at least four minutes. Stop, place two fingers on your wrist. Count heartbeats for six seconds and multiply by 10. (e.g., 14 beats x 10 = 140 bpm).

Diagram: Wrist Heart Rate Measurement

  • Shows hand placement on wrist for pulse check.

Workout Guidelines

  • Warming Up: 5-10 minutes of stretching and light exercise to increase body temperature, heart rate, and circulation.
  • Training Zone Exercise: 20-30 minutes with heart rate in your training zone. (Limit to 20 minutes in the first few weeks). Breathe regularly.
  • Cooling Down: 5-10 minutes of stretching to increase flexibility and prevent post-exercise problems.

Exercise Frequency

For maintenance or improvement, complete three workouts per week with at least one rest day between. After a few months, up to five workouts per week may be done. Make exercise a regular, enjoyable part of your life.
