Diagram Descriptions
Fixture Diagram
This diagram illustrates the overall assembly of the outdoor wall light. It shows a mounting strap [A] attached to an outlet box [B]. Wires are shown connecting from the outlet box to the fixture. The fixture itself consists of a canopy [F], a socket [E], a frame [H], and glass panels [G] held in place by tabs [I] and glass retainers [J]. Grounding wires are also depicted. Various components are labeled with letters A through M.
Fig. 1: Marking the Center of the Outer Slots in the Mounting Strap [A]
This diagram shows the mounting strap [A] being used as a template against a wall surface. It indicates marking the center of the four outer slots on the strap, which will correspond to the locations for drilling holes for wall anchors.
Fig. 2: Installing the Glass [G]
This diagram illustrates how a glass panel [G] is inserted into the fixture's frame [H]. The glass is shown being tilted upwards and positioned between the frame and a tab [I] at the top, then seated vertically against the inside of the frame.
Fig. 3: Installing the Glass Retainers [J]
This diagram shows the bottom corner of the fixture's frame [H] with a glass panel [G] in place. A glass retainer [J] is positioned against the glass at the bottom corner, and a retainer screw [K] is shown being inserted through the frame into the retainer to secure the glass.
Grounding Instructions (Illus. a or b)
Illustration 'a': Shows a mounting strap with two raised dimples. The outlet box ground wire is wrapped around a green ground screw threaded into one of these dimples.
Illustration 'b': Shows a mounting strap where a cupped washer is used. The outlet box ground wire is placed under the cupped washer and the green ground screw, which is then threaded into the mounting strap. In both cases, the fixture's ground wire is connected to the outlet box ground wire using a wire connector.
Wiring Chart
This chart details how to connect the electrical wires:
- Connect Black or Red Supply Wire to: Black fixture wire.
- Connect White Supply Wire to: White fixture wire.
Connections are made based on wire types:
- Parallel cord (round & smooth) connects to Black.
- Parallel cord (square & ridged) connects to White.
- Clear, Brown, Gold or Black wire without tracer connects to Black.
- Clear, Brown, Gold or Black wire with tracer connects to White.
- Insulated wire (other than green) with copper conductor connects to Black.
- Insulated wire (other than green) with silver conductor connects to White.
- The neutral wire (identified as square or ridged on parallel cords) connects to White.
Important: Never connect ground wire to black or white power supply wires.
Installation Instructions
- Attach mounting strap [A] to outlet box [B] using strap mounting screws [C]. The mounting strap can be adjusted to suit the fixture's position. Note: Mount the strap with bent tabs pointing away from the wall, at the 9 and 3 o'clock positions.
- Using the mounting strap as a template, mark the center of the four outer slots on the mounting surface.
- Carefully remove the mounting strap [A] from the outlet box.
- Drill 1/8" (3.2mm) holes in the mounting surface at the marked positions. Insert wall anchors [M] into each hole and tap lightly until flush.
- Reattach the mounting strap [A] to the outlet box [B] using strap mounting screws [C].
- Secure the mounting strap to the wall anchors with four wall anchor screws [L].
- Connect the ground wires as per the grounding instructions (Illus. a or b). If the fixture has a ground wire, connect it to the outlet box ground wire with a wire connector.
- Make wire connections according to the wiring chart: Connect the supply wires (Black/Red and White) to the corresponding fixture wires (Black and White). Ensure proper connections based on wire type and insulation color.
- Push the canopy [F] to the wall, aligning its mounting screw holes with those on the mounting strap. Ensure all wires are inside the canopy and not pinched.
- Screw four mounting screws [D] into the holes in the canopy and mounting strap to attach the fixture securely to the wall.
- Carefully insert each glass panel [G] through the bottom of the frame [H]. Tilt the glass against the frame until vertical, seating it on the inside of the frame. Repeat for all glass panels.
- Place one glass retainer [J] at each inside bottom corner of the frame, against the glass. Align retainer holes with frame holes, insert retainer screws [K], and tighten to secure the glass.
- Insert recommended bulb(s) (not included).
Instructions for Mounting Fixture Outdoors and/or in Wet Locations
- The mounting surface should be clean, dry, flat, and at least 1/4" larger than the canopy on all sides. Correct any gaps between the mounting surface and canopy exceeding 3/16".
- Using silicone caulking compound, caulk completely around where the back of the canopy meets the wall surface to prevent water from seeping into the outlet box.
Cleaning
- Always ensure the electric current is turned off before cleaning.
- Only a soft damp cloth should be used. Harsh cleaning products may damage the finish.
