WatchGas SST1 Single Gas Detector User Manual
Your essential guide to operating and maintaining the WatchGas SST1 gas detector.
Product Overview
The WatchGas SST1 is a personal safety device designed to detect the presence of toxic gases such as Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S), Carbon Monoxide (CO), Sulfur Dioxide (SO2), Oxygen (O2) deficiency, Methanethiol (CH4S), Hydrogen (H2), Ammonia (NH3), or Phosphine (PH3).
It is available in disposable (2 or 3-year life) or serviceable models. Disposable versions are maintenance-free, while serviceable models offer at least a 2-year battery life. The SST1 is designed for ease of use with one-button operation and NFC configuration, featuring a robust design for harsh industrial environments.
Key Features and Components
The SST1 features an LCD display, audible alarms (95dB), visual LED alarms, and vibration alarms. It supports various gas detections and alarm types (Low, High, STEL, TWA). The device stores the last 100 alarm events in an event log.
Device Components:
- 1. LCD Display: Shows real-time readings, gas concentrations, and device status.
- 2. Visual Alarm Bar: LED indicators for alarms.
- 3. Audible Alarm: Buzzer for sound alerts.
- 4. Screen Protector: Protective film for the LCD.
- 5. Gas Identification: Indicates the detected gas.
- 6. Buttons: For operation and navigation.
- 7. Sensors: Detect specific gases (H2S, CO, O2, SO2, etc.).
- 8. Housing: Durable casing for protection.
- 9. Alligator Clip: For attaching the device to clothing.
- 10. Serial Number: Unique identifier for the device.
- 11. NFC Antenna: For configuration and data transfer.
- 12. Certification Label: Displays safety and compliance marks.
Display Indicators:
- Remaining Life: Displays months or days remaining (MM/DD).
- Real-time Reading: Current gas concentration.
- Peak Exposure: Highest recorded concentration.
- RTC (Real-Time Clock): Displays current time.
- Alarm Status: Indicates Low, High, STEL, or TWA alarms.
- BUMP Icon: Indicates a bump test is due.
- CAL Icon: Indicates calibration is due.
- NFC Icon: Shows NFC communication status.
Measurement Units:
- VOL: Volume percentage (for O2).
- PPM: Parts per million (for H2S, CO, SO2).
- MG/M3: Milligrams per cubic meter.
Operation and Safety
Activation: Activate the detector by pressing and holding the button for approximately 5 seconds before the expiration date on the box. The device will provide audible, visual, and vibration feedback.
Self-Test: A self-test must be performed before each use to ensure safe operation. When the self-test is due, a gas icon will flash. Long-press the button for over 3 seconds. The device will beep, vibrate, activate LEDs, display all LCD icons, and perform sensor diagnostics.
Bump Testing: Periodically test the sensor's response by exposing the detector to a target gas concentration exceeding the alarm setpoint. Manually verify audible, vibration, and visual alarms are active. The BUMP icon will appear when a bump test is due. Bump tests can be performed manually or via the SST Dock.
Calibration: The O2 sensor prompts for daily calibration. When the calibration icon appears, long-press the button for over 5 seconds to start the O2 calibration process.
Warnings:
- Do not attempt to replace internal components; this voids the intrinsic safety rating and warranty unless replaced with original WatchGas parts.
- This product is a gas detector, not a measuring device.
- Ensure the monitor is switched on, sensor, and audible port are clean before use.
- Perform all inspections in a clean, hazard-free environment.
- Clean the detector with a soft damp cloth and a neutral cleaner (e.g., ACL Staticide). Do not use solvents, soaps, or polishes.
- Periodically zero the sensor in a normal atmosphere (20.9% v/v O2) free of hazardous gas for optimal performance.
- The equipment is intended for use in hazardous atmospheres with normal oxygen content not exceeding 21% v/v.
- Contact the manufacturer if the antistatic film on the LCD display is damaged.
