Important Safety Instructions

Read Before Using!

  • Operation, maintenance, and service requirements are covered in the instruction manual. Read the entire manual before operating the shredder.
  • Keep away from children and pets. Keep hands away from the paper entry. Always set the switch to OFF (0) or unplug the shredder when not in use.
  • Keep foreign objects such as gloves, jewelry, clothing, hair, etc., away from shredder openings. If an object enters the top opening, switch to Reverse (R) to back out the object.
  • Never use aerosol products, petroleum-based lubricants, or other flammable products on or near the shredder. Do not use canned air on the shredder.
  • Do not use if the shredder is damaged or defective. Do not disassemble the shredder.
  • Do not place the shredder near or over a heat source or water.
  • This shredder has a Disconnect Power Switch (F) that must be in the ON (I) position to operate. In case of an emergency, move the switch to OFF (0) position. This action will stop the shredder immediately.
  • Avoid touching exposed cutting blades under the shredder head.
  • The shredder must be plugged into a wall outlet or socket matching the voltage and amperage designated on the label. The outlet or socket must be installed near the equipment and easily accessible. Energy converters, transformers, or extension cords should not be used with this product.
  • FIRE HAZARD: Do NOT shred greeting cards with sound chips or batteries.
  • For indoor use only.
  • Unplug the shredder before cleaning or servicing.

Basic Shredding Operation

Steps:

  1. Power Up: Plug in the shredder and set the disconnect power switch (F) to the ON (I) position.
  2. Set Mode: Set the control switch to Auto-On (I).
  3. Feed Material: Feed paper or cards straight into the paper entry (B) and release. The shredder will start automatically.
  4. Finish Shredding: When finished shredding, set the switch to OFF (0).

Continuous Operation Note:

Continuous operation is limited to a maximum of 5 minutes. The shredder runs briefly after each pass to clear the entry. Continuous operation beyond 5 minutes will trigger a 30-minute cool-down period.

Advanced Product Features

SafeSense® Technology:

SafeSense® Technology stops shredding immediately when hands touch the paper opening. To test its functionality: Set the shredder to Auto-On (I), touch the test area, and observe the SafeSense® indicator (yellow light) illuminate. This confirms SafeSense® is active and working properly.

Product Maintenance

Oiling Shredder:

All cross-cut shredders require oil for peak performance. If not oiled, a machine may experience diminished sheet capacity, intrusive noise when shredding, and could ultimately stop running. To avoid these problems, Fellowes recommends oiling the shredder each time the waste bin is emptied. Follow the oiling procedure below and repeat twice.

Oiling Procedure:

  1. Step 1: Set the shredder to OFF (0).
  2. Step 2: Apply oil across the paper entry. (Use only a non-aerosol vegetable oil in a long nozzle container, such as Fellowes 35250).
  3. Step 3: Set the shredder to Reverse (R) for 2-3 seconds.

Cleaning Auto-Start Infrared Sensors:

Paper detection sensors are designed for maintenance-free operation. However, on rare occasions, the sensors may become blocked by paper dust, causing the motor to run even if there is no paper present. (Note: two paper detection sensors are located in the center of the paper entry).

Cleaning Procedure:

  1. Step 1: Turn off and unplug the shredder.
  2. Step 2: Locate the auto-start infrared sensor.
  3. Step 3: Dip a cotton swab in rubbing alcohol.
  4. Step 4: Using the cotton swab, wipe away any contamination from the paper sensors.

Troubleshooting

Overheat Indicator:

When the Overheat Indicator (red light) is illuminated, the shredder has exceeded its maximum operating temperature and needs to cool down. This indicator will remain illuminated, and the shredder will not operate for the duration of the recovery time. See Basic Shredding Operation for more information about the continuous operation and recovery time for this shredder.

SafeSense® Indicator:

If hands are too close to the paper entry, the SafeSense® indicator (yellow light) will illuminate, and the shredder will stop shredding.

Paper Jam:

Steps to Clear a Paper Jam:

  1. Step 1: Set the shredder to Reverse (R) for 2-3 seconds.
  2. Step 2: Alternate slowly between Reverse (R) and OFF (0) or Auto-On (I) to back out the paper.
  3. Step 3: Gently pull any uncut paper from the paper entry.
  4. Step 4: Set the shredder to OFF (0) and unplug it.
  5. Step 5: Set the shredder to Auto-On (I) and resume shredding.
