Important Safety Instructions
Read before using the shredder.
- Read the entire instruction manual before operating.
- Keep away from children and pets. Keep hands away from paper entry. Always set to OFF (0) or unplug when not in use.
- Keep foreign objects (gloves, jewelry, clothing, hair, etc.) away from shredder openings. Use Reverse (◀◀) to back out objects.
- Never use aerosol products, petroleum-based lubricants, or flammable products on or near the shredder. Do not use canned air.
- Do not use if damaged or defective. Do not disassemble.
- Do not place near or over heat sources or water.
- FIRE HAZARD: Do NOT shred greeting cards with sound chips or batteries.
- For indoor use only.
- Unplug shredder before cleaning or servicing.
The shredder requires the Disconnect Power Switch (F) to be in the ON (-) position to operate. In an emergency, switch to OFF (0) to stop immediately.
Avoid touching exposed cutting blades.
Connect the shredder to a properly grounded wall outlet. Do not use energy converters, transformers, or extension cords.
FCC Compliance Warning: This equipment complies with Part 15 of FCC Rules for Class B digital devices. It may cause interference; if so, try reorienting the antenna, increasing separation, or using a different outlet. Consult a dealer or technician if problems persist.
Basic Shredding Operation
Paper/Card Shredding:
- Plug in the shredder and set the disconnect power switch to ON (◀).
- Set the control switch to Auto-On (▶) to activate the shredder.
- Feed paper or card straight into the paper entry and release.
- When finished shredding, set the control switch to OFF (■).
Continuous Operation: The shredder can operate continuously for up to 6 minutes. After 6 minutes, it will automatically cool down for 30 minutes. The shredder briefly runs after each pass to clear the entry.
Advanced Product Features: SafeSense® Technology
SafeSense® technology stops shredding immediately when hands touch the paper opening.
Set-up and Testing:
- Set the control switch to Auto-On (▶) to activate SafeSense®.
- Touch the test area near the paper entry.
- The SafeSense® indicator (yellow) should illuminate, confirming it is active and working properly.
Basic Product Maintenance: Oiling Shredder
Regular oiling is essential for optimal performance of cross-cut shredders. Neglecting oiling can lead to reduced sheet capacity, increased noise, and eventual failure. Fellowes recommends oiling the shredder each time the waste bin is emptied.
Oiling Procedure (Repeat Twice):
- Set the control switch to OFF (■).
- Apply shredder oil across the paper entry.
- Set the control switch to Reverse (◀◀) for 2-3 seconds.
Note: Use only non-aerosol vegetable oil in a long nozzle container, such as Fellowes 35250.
Troubleshooting
Overheat Indicator:
When the Overheat indicator (red) is illuminated, the shredder has exceeded its maximum operating temperature and needs to cool down. The indicator will remain lit, and the shredder will not operate during the recovery period. Refer to Basic Shredding Operation for details on continuous operation and recovery times.
SafeSense® Indicator:
If hands are too close to the paper entry, the SafeSense® indicator (yellow) will illuminate, and the shredder will stop shredding.
Paper Jam:
- Set the control switch to Reverse (◀◀).
- Alternate slowly between Reverse (◀◀) and Auto-On (▶) to help clear the jam.
- Set the control switch to OFF (■) and unplug the shredder.
- Gently pull any uncut paper from the paper entry.
- Plug the shredder back in.
- Set the control switch to Auto-On (▶) and resume shredding.
