Parts and Functions
The X10DR Talk Back Microphone (XTBM) is designed for clear and efficient communication. Below are its key components and their descriptions:

- Power On/Off Control: Hold for approximately 2 seconds to turn the device on or off. The Power Mic will emit escalating or de-escalating tones to indicate status. A self-check is performed, and the status light illuminates.
- Emergency: Pressing the orange emergency button triggers the host radio's emergency input. The status light turns red. It also glows red if any connected X10DR Handset user presses their emergency button.
- Status Light: Glows Green when transmitting to X10DR handsets. Glows Blue when transmitting over the host mobile radio. Changes to Red when an emergency is activated.
- Microphone: Speak in a normal voice strength approximately 1 to 3 cm (1 inch) from the microphone port.
- PTT (Press-To-Talk): Press to transmit audio, release to listen. By default, it is assigned to talk over the gateway to wireless X10DR handsets.
- Control Button: This button's function can be configured. Options include toggling between Radio PTT and Talkaround, or assigning specific PTT functions to the side PTT button and the control button. (Refer to re-configuration section for details).
- Volume Up/Down: Adjusts the speaker audio volume louder or softer, with an audible beep upon pressing.
Initial Setup
When installing the Talk Back Mic to your X10DR gateway system, it is recommended to set the microphone output level to match the host mobile radio's fist microphone. You can also set the receive input level to hear the host mobile radio's audio through the XTBM speaker.
Microphone Transmit Level Adjustment
To match the XTBM's transmit audio level to the host radio's fist microphone:
- Hold the Volume Up button while turning on the XTBM.
- After the activation tone sounds, release the buttons.
- Using a portable radio for monitoring, transmit using the host radio's fist microphone.
- Then, transmit using the Talkback Mic.
- Use the Volume Up/Down buttons on the XTBM to adjust its transmit audio level until it matches the host radio's wired fist microphone.
- To lock the audio level, press the top grey button.
Radio Receive Input Level Adjustment
(Default level is off)
To match the wireless X10DR's audio and the host radio's received audio level:
- Hold the Volume Down button while turning on the XTBM.
- When the activation tone sounds, release the buttons.
- Speak into a portable radio to monitor the host mobile's receive audio output.
- Next, transmit using the wireless X10DR handset and compare the audio levels.
- Use the Volume Up/Down buttons on the XTBM to adjust its volume so the portable radio's audio level is consistent with when you speak on the wireless X10DR handset.
- To lock the audio level, press the top grey button.
Installation Components
The X10DR system utilizes various components for installation and connectivity:
- XMPA Antenna: For radio communication range.
- XMPA Antenna Cable Kit: Included in the package for antenna connection.
- XDIA Adaptor: Connects to the rear interface connector on your mobile radio.
- XIC-0.5 (0.5m) / XIC-1.5 (1.5m) Interface Cables: Used for connecting the XTBM to the radio system.
- XCA Adaptor: This adaptor is radio-specific. Connect the RED wire to the vehicle's permanent battery supply. The WHITE wire, if supplied, is for Remote PTT use and should not be connected unless required.
Control Button PTT Re-assignment Options
The function of the Control button and the side PTT button can be re-assigned. The desired configuration is set during power-up:
- Option A (Default): The Control button toggles PTT between Talkaround and Radio PTT. Activate by powering up with the orange button pressed.
- Option B: The side PTT button functions as Radio PTT, and the top Control button functions as Talkaround PTT. Activate by powering up while holding the Control GREY button.
- Option C: The side PTT button functions as Talkaround PTT, and the top Control button functions as Radio PTT. Activate by powering up while holding the side PTT button.
