How to Install Programmer
System Requirements: Runs on PC or Mac running Windows 7/11.
Important Note: Requires a USB 2 Port. The programmer will not work with USB 3. If your PC only has USB3 ports, use a USB patch block as most are USB 2.
Included with the Programmer download file are instructions for setting up the programmer on your Windows 7/11 PC. Follow these instructions carefully.

How to Use Programmer
System Requirements: Runs on PC running Windows 7/10. Requires a USB 2 Port.
Putting Handset into Programming Mode:
Turn off the handset. Attach the programming cable between the device's Hirose port and the PC. Press and hold the red handset ON/OFF button while holding PTT. The handset's LED will light red.
Putting Gateway into Programming Mode:
Turn off the gateway. Hold down the gateway ON/OFF button while attaching the programming cable to the device's micro-USB port and the PC USB port. The Gateway's LED will light red.
Note: The gateway's RJ45 socket should not be connected to the host radio.
Important: Always READ the device before proceeding further.
It is recommended to SAVE the configuration file to your PC for re-loading if required.
A GREYED-out feature indicates that your device does not support that capability.
The Programmer automatically identifies the device type.
Programmer Functions:
- Read Device: Loads current programming parameters from the device to the screen.
- Program Device: Loads current screen programming parameters to the device.
- Restart (important): Restarts the programmed device before removing the programming cable.
- Lock - Unlock File: Locks your desired parameter configuration to prevent accidental changes during batch programming.
- Load File: Loads a previously saved programming configuration from your PC.
- Save File: Saves current programming parameters to a desired PC location.
- Defaults: Resets the device to default parameters.
- Exit: Exits the program.
Handset Parameters
Audio Feedback & Alerts:
- Radio PTT Key Beep: Sounds a two-tone sequence when PTT is pressed and the handset is within gateway range. Default: OFF.
- Emergency Key Beep: Sounds a single tone when the Emergency button is pressed and the handset is within gateway range. Default: ON.
- Talkaround PTT Key Beep: Sounds a triple tone sequence when the Talkaround button is pressed and the handset is within gateway range. Default: ON.
- Stealth Mode Always Active: Disables all alert tones and LED status lights. User can manually enable stealth mode if programmed off. Default: OFF.
Speaker & Charging Settings:
- Mute Speaker on PTT: Disables all speaker audio when PTT is pressed. Default: OFF.
- Mute Speaker on Charge: Disables speaker when the handset is in the gateway or a charger. Default: ON.
- LED Charge Indicate: Disables the "momentary blink" charge indicator when the handset is placed into the gateway or charger while charging. Default: ON.
- Auto Turn On When Charging: Automatically turns the handset on when placed in the gateway or charger. Default: ON.
- Minimum Volume Is Off: Allows the user to turn speaker audio completely off, instead of setting it to level 1. Default: OFF.
Advanced Features:
- Mandown Monitor (when fitted): Enables/disables this function via the programmer for Plus handsets fitted with the XMD option. Default: OFF.
- Internal Mic Only Operation: Maintains operation via the internal microphone when an accessory is attached to the Hirose port. Required for earpiece (WPEH-X10/WPTEP-X10) use via the Hirose headset port. Default: OFF.
Handset Programming: Basic Functions
- Out of Range Turn Off Time: Sets the duration (in hours) before a handset not connected to a gateway powers itself off. Default: 8 hours.
- Low Battery Beep Voltage: Sets the remaining battery voltage that triggers low battery alert tones. Lowering this may extend shift life but reduce warning time before shutdown. Default: 3.5V.
- Low Battery Beep Interval Timer: Sets the interval (in minutes) between low battery alert tones. Default: 5 minutes.
Elite Plus Only Options:
- Handsfree Function: Enables user-selectable handsfree intercom function in Elite Plus handsets. (Displays "disabled" if the feature is not enabled). Default: ON.
- Toggle PTT/TA Button Assignment: Configures the top grey Control button to toggle the side PTT button assignment between host radio PTT and Talkaround or 2nd Radio PTT/PA Mode (when used with XSJB or similar). Default: OFF.
- Command Relay Mode / Automatic Relay Mode: Selects the Relay Mode type in Elite Plus handsets. Default: Command Relay (manual - normally OFF).
Handset Button Descriptions:
Top 1, Top 2: Buttons located on the top of the handset.
Microphone: Integrated microphone.
PTT: Push-to-Talk button.
Left 1, Left 2: Buttons located on the left side of the handset.
Status light: Indicator light on the handset.
Right 1: Button located on the right side of the handset.
Charging Contacts: For connecting to charger/gateway.
Hirose audio jack: Connector for external audio accessories.
3.5mm earpiece audio jack: Standard audio output jack.
Handset Programming: Audio Levels
It is recommended to use the XGALA Gateway Audio Level Adjustment software tool for setting audio levels between the host radio and the X10DR gateway. Download it at www.x10dr.com/supports.
These adjustments cater to different audio accessories and user applications for optimal audio sensitivity:
- Internal Mic Gain: Sets the internal microphone's transmit audio level sensitivity. Default: 3.
- Internal Mic High Gain Boost: Sets the internal microphone's sensitivity when "Live Mic" is active. Default: 6.
- External Mic Gain: Sets the external microphone's transmit audio level sensitivity. Default: 6.
- External Mic High Gain Boost: Sets the external microphone's sensitivity when "Live Mic" is active or when manually selected via the volume up button. Default: 6.
- Remote PTT Gain Boost: Increases internal microphone sensitivity when the remote/handlebar PTT is pressed. Default: 9.
- Fixed Alert Tone Volume: Limits all user-monitored alert tones to a set level, overriding handset volume controls. Default: OFF.
- Alert Tone Volume: Sets the volume for the "Fixed Alert Tone" when enabled. Default: 5.
Handset Programming: Emergency
For Press & Hold Emergency:
- Audio Link Active Time: Duration the transmit audio remains active after the Emergency button is released. Intended for mobiles activating their own "Live Mic" function. Default: 0.
For Short/Long Press Emergency:
- Transmit Time: Duration X10DR "Live Mic" handset Tx audio is active when Advanced Emergency is activated. Default: 0.
- Receive Time: Duration X10DR "Live Mic" handset Rx audio is active when Advanced Emergency is activated. Default: 0.
- Emergency Repeat Cycles: Number of "Live Mic", Tx, and Rx cycles when Advanced Emergency is triggered. Default: 1.
- Transmit Audible Emergency Tone: Transmits an audible emergency warble tone over the host mobile radio channel when emergency is activated. Default: Off.
Handset Programming: Hardware
Hirose Pin 2 Function: Configures Hirose pin 2 for powering external accessories (~3.3VDC) or as a bridged output speaker audio (speaker negative). Default: Speaker -VE.
Acc PTT: Determines if the Hirose PTT input generates Talkaround or Radio PTT. Default: Radio PTT.
PTT: Sets the function of the main PTT button. Options include Radio PTT, Emergency. Default: Radio PTT.
Top 1: Sets the function of the top left button. Options include Emergency, Talkaround PTT. Default: Emergency.
Top 2: Sets the function of the top right button. Options include Talkaround PTT, Emergency. Default: Talkaround PTT.
Left 1: Sets the function of the top left button. Default: Short press Volume up / long press Relay mode OFF/ON (Elite Plus only).
Left 2: Sets the function of the bottom left button. Default: Short press: Volume down.
Right 1: Sets the function of the right side button. Re-assigning requires hardware modifications. Default: Short press: Search / long press: Power OFF/ON.
Long Press Duration: Sets the time a button must be pressed to activate a Long Press function. Default: 5000mSec (Elite) / 2000mSec (Pro).
Handset Programming: Dropdown Box Button Assignment Selection
Elite Plus Handset Right 1 Button - Short Press Assignments:
- Search: Resets connection to paired gateway, other gateways, or Relay Mode paired handsets.
- LTE RSM On/Off: Toggles transmit function for dedicated LTE (PoC) configured smartphones (requires X10DR-EX2-LTE models). LED glows white when On.
- Aux 1 (or 2): Triggers Emergency when used with XFSB/XSJB(V2) Smart boxes in dual radio deployments.
- Relay Mode On/Off: Toggles Relay Mode ON/OFF to allow direct talk or mesh back to the vehicle when a handset is out of gateway range.
- Default: Search (Pro Plus models only access Search).
Elite Plus Handset Right 1 Button - Long Press Assignments:
- On/Off: Manually powers the handset Off and On.
- Power On: Manually powers ON a handset that is OFF. (Suggestion: Program the blue Volume Down button (L2) for Long Press: Power OFF for intuitive operation).
- Default: Off/On.
Elite Plus Handset Top 1/2, Left 1/2 Button - Short Press Assignments:
- Disabled: Button has no function.
- Volume Up: Increases handset speaker audio volume in 7 steps.
- Volume Down: Decreases handset speaker audio volume in 7 steps.
- Aux 1 (or 2): Triggers Emergency when used with XFSB/XSJB(V2) Smart boxes in dual radio/wireless device deployments.
- Emergency: Triggers Emergency on the host mobile/wireless network device.
- HF On/Off: Toggles Handsfree local full duplex intercom operation ON/OFF.
- Relay Mode On/Off: Toggles Relay Mode ON/OFF for direct talk or mesh back to vehicle when handset is out of gateway range.
Elite Plus Handset Top 1/2, Left 1/2 Button - Long Press Assignments:
Assignments are similar to short press, with the addition of:
- Power Off: Manually powers OFF a handset that is ON. (Suggested assignment: Volume Down (L2) button).
Gateway Parameters
Models: Pro Plus, Elite Plus, XRTG Elite Plus, XIVG Gateway.
XRTG Elite Plus: Externally mounted. Function Button and LED are internally enclosed. Use button and LED as standard or XIVG function button.
XIVG Gateway: Elite Plus and Pro Plus models available.
Pairing a XRTG or XIVG Gateway:
Use the Auto pairing method: Power up the gateway with its host radio turned OFF. For the next 30 seconds, the gateway is in pairing mode. Powering on the radio may abort the process.

Gateway Programming: Audio Levels
- Receiver Input Gain From Radio: Sets receive input sensitivity. Default: 0.
- Transmit Output Gain To Radio: Sets audio output level to radio when local/remote/handlebar PTT is pressed or "Live Mic" is active. Default: 0.
- Talk Around Output Gain to other X10DRs: Sets the "intercom" microphone audio level. Default: 0.
- Find Me™ Function: Enables Find Me function in gateway. Double-pressing the gateway Function button triggers Find Me alert tones or Remote FindMe. Default: OFF.
- Radio Receive VOX/COR: Enables VOX derived COR. Default: ON.
- VOX Trigger Level: Sets gateway's audio detect sensitivity for VOX derived COR. Default: 70.
- Public Address Mode: Sets the gateway to send only handset Talkaround audio to the 3.5mm jack. If unchecked, both Radio PTT and Talkaround audio are available for in-car monitoring. Default: OFF.
- Monitor Emergency Input Alert Tone: Causes an emergency warble alert tone in all cross-connected X10DR handsets when emergency input is triggered (e.g., from another gateway or external ground input). Default: OFF.
- Trunking Support: Enables speaker audio upon PTT for 500mS, allowing clear distinction of host trunked mobile's Channel Grant/Talk Permit tones. Handset Mic audio is also muted for 500mS to prevent rebroadcasting these tones. For optimal performance, set VOX trigger level for 90-100. Default: OFF.
Elite Plus Series Only Options:
- Multi Operational Mics: Allows two or three Elite Series Mics to operate simultaneously through one Elite gateway. Default: ON.
- Remote Find Me™: Enables Find Me function via grounding the white wire connected to pin 8 (replaces Remote PTT function). Default: OFF.
Gateway Programming: Hardware
I/O Settings:
Defines whether a gateway interface pin is assigned as an input or an output.
- Active: Sets whether the interface pin needs to be held low or pulled up high to activate the assigned functionality.
- Function: Assigns desired functionality to the interface pin. Choose input or output from dropdown boxes.
- Pulse: Defines the duration an input must be activated before triggering a function, or the duration an output is activated. A value of zero means an input triggers instantly.
The programmer interface displays tables for I/O assignments, including Radio PTT, Radio Emergency, Radio COR, and various Function pins, with options for Active (Low/High), Function (e.g., Radio PTT, Emergency, Disabled, Handset in Cradle), and Pulse duration.

The programmer interface provides default settings for Pro Plus models across various categories, including User Experience, Audio Levels, Emergency, and Hardware configurations.
