Installation Instructions

WARNING: ELECTRICAL SHOCK HAZARD

Disconnect power to the receptacle's circuit at the breaker box or fuse box. All wiring connections must be made with the power OFF to prevent personal injury or damage to the receptacle. This device is intended for installation in accordance with the National Electric Code and local regulations in the United States or the Canadian Electrical Code and local regulations of Canada. If you are unsure or uncomfortable performing this installation, please consult a qualified electrician.

Changing the Faceplate

This step is optional. Before installation, you may want to change the faceplate to match your wall plate or decor.

  1. Press the edge of the faceplate to slide it to the right.
  2. Align the new faceplate with the slots on the front of the receptacle and slide it into place.

WARNING: Use only replacement part (WFD1001-RC) with receptacle (Jasco Products Company, Model ZWA1003) only. WARNING: FIRE OR ELECTRIC SHOCK RISK. Do not use this replacement part with any receptacle other than the one specified on the replacement brand packaging and in these instructions.

Removing the Old Receptacle

  1. Turn off power to the circuit at the breaker or fuse box. IMPORTANT! Verify power to the switch box is OFF before proceeding.
  2. Remove the wall plate.
  3. Remove the mounting screws from the receptacle.
  4. Carefully remove the receptacle from the electrical box. DO NOT disconnect wires.
  5. Identify the following three wires in the electrical box:
    • A. Ground: green wire/bare copper
    • B. Line (hot): black wire (connected to power)
    • C. Neutral: white wire
  6. Disconnect the wires from the existing receptacle. Label the wires according to the previous terminal connections.

Wiring the Z-Wave Receptacle

WIRING REQUIREMENTS

Secure using the box holes, strip 5/8 in. (16mm) of insulation. Tighten screws to 12 lbf-in (14 Kgf-cm).

IMPORTANT! The screw terminals included with this receptacle are designed for use with copper wire only. Consult a professional electrician if your wiring is aluminum.

Use 14 or 12 AWG gauge wire that is suitable for at least 90° C for supply of the line (hot), neutral, and ground connections.

  1. Connect the green or bare wire to the GROUND terminal (A).
  2. Connect the black wire from the power source (hot) to the LINE terminal (B).
  3. Connect the white wire to the NEUTRAL terminal (C), use a jumper wire if necessary.
  4. Secure the receptacle to the switch box with the provided mounting screws; ensure wires are not pinched or crushed.
  5. Install the wall plate.
  6. The blue LED indicator will flash twice per second for up to 10 minutes to indicate the device is in pairing mode.

Insert wires into holes and DO NOT wrap wires around screws. DO NOT remove screws.

Adding Your Device to a Z-Wave Network

  1. Follow the instructions for your certified Z-Wave controller to add a device to the Z-Wave network.
  2. Once the controller is ready to add your device, press the program button.

You have full control to turn the smart receptacle on or off according to groups, scenes, schedules, and interactive automations programmed by your controller. If your certified Z-Wave controller has remote access, you can control the receptacle from your mobile devices.

If the controller prompts you to enter the S2 security code, refer to the QR code/security number on the side of the box or the QR Code label on the product (see Figure 1). Enter the 5-digit code.

LED Cycle

The LED indicator acts as a guide light or status indicator.

To cycle through options: Press the program button five times to cycle through the options in the following order:

  1. LED is ON when the load is ON (default)
  2. Always OFF
  3. Always ON

To Remove and Reset the Device

  1. Follow the instructions for your certified Z-Wave controller to remove a device from the Z-Wave network.
  2. Once the controller is ready to remove your device, press the program button.

To Return to Factory Settings

Press the program button five times, then press and hold the button for at least three seconds. The LED indicator flashes five times to confirm.

NOTE: This procedure should only be used in the absence of your network's primary controller or if the primary controller is malfunctioning.

NOTE: SmartStart enabled products can be added to a Z-Wave network by scanning the QR code found on the product with a controller that offers SmartStart inclusion. No further action is required and the SmartStart product will automatically be added within 10 minutes of being powered on in the proximity of the network.

This warranty is limited to the repair or replacement of this product only and does not extend to consequential or incidental damages to other products that may be used with this product. If this product proves defective during the warranty period, discontinue use, unplug the product, and return it with proof of purchase to the place of purchase or contact Jasco customer support.
