Stäubli MC4-Evo 2 Y-Splitter MA706 Installation and Operation Manual
Product Overview
The Stäubli MC4-Evo 2 Y-Splitter, model MA706, is designed for the parallel electrical connection of two photovoltaic strings within DC circuits. It is valid for the PV-K/SPL-Y series.
The product features a Y-shaped cable assembly with two female connectors on one end and one male connector on the other, facilitating the splitting of a solar array string. Sealing caps (PV-BVK4 32.0716 and PV-SVK4 32.0717) are available to protect unmated connectors from environmental factors.
Safety Instructions
Importance of the Assembly Instructions
Failure to follow assembly and safety instructions can lead to life-threatening injuries from electric shock, electric arcs, fire, or system failure.
- Follow all assembly instructions.
- Use and install the product only according to these instructions and technical data.
- Safely store instructions and pass them to subsequent users.
Intended Use
The product electrically connects components within the DC circuits of a PV system. Its primary function is the parallel electrical connection of two PV strings.
Requirements for Personnel
Only an electrician or an electrically instructed person may assemble, install, and commission the system.
- An electrician possesses the professional training, knowledge, and experience to identify and avoid electrical dangers, and can select and use appropriate personal protective equipment.
- An electrically instructed person is trained or supervised by an electrician and can identify and avoid electrical dangers.
Prerequisites for Installation and Assembly
- NEVER use an obviously damaged product.
- ONLY use tools, materials, and auxiliary means approved by Stäubli.
Safe Assembly and Mounting
Live parts can remain energized after isolation or disconnection.
- ONLY install the product when the PV module is de-energized.
Mating and Disconnecting
- ALWAYS de-energize the PV system before mating and disconnecting connectors.
- NEVER disconnect connectors under load.
- NEVER connect male or female parts of Stäubli connectors with connectors from other manufacturers.
- NEVER mate contaminated connectors.
Do NOT Modify or Repair Component
- Do NOT modify the component after assembly.
- Replace defective components.

Tools and Assembly Materials Required
For integration into a PV cable harness system:
- PV-MS-PLS Assembly and unlocking tool: 1 set = 2 pcs. Order No. 32.6058
- Open-end spanner set PV-MS: Order No. 32.6024
Refer to Operating instructions MA270, available at www.staubli.com/electrical.
Installation Procedure
Important - ELECTRIC SHOCK HAZARD! Do not disconnect the product under load nor connect it in an electrical circuit that is under load.
Using the appropriate disconnect tool, separate the mated connector.
Notes on Installation
General Notes on Installation
- Unmated connectors must be protected from environmental impact (moisture, dirt, dust, etc.) with sealing caps (socket order no. 32.0716; plug order no. 32.0717).
- Do not mate contaminated connectors.
- Connectors must not come into contact with any chemicals.
Cable Routing
Cable management must allow a minimum of 20 mm of cable that exits directly from the cable seal without bending or stress. Refer to cable manufacturers' specifications for minimum bending radius.
Contaminated/Damaged Connectors
- Do not allow connectors to be contaminated by the environment (e.g., soil, water, insects, dust).
- Do not allow the connector to be contaminated on its surface (e.g., stickers, paint, heat shrink tubing).
- Do not allow the connector to be directly on the roofing surface.
- Do not allow the connector to be at the lowest point of cabling where water can collect.
- Do not allow the connector to be in standing water.
- Do not allow cable ties to be mounted directly on the connector body.
Mechanical Stress
- Check that the connectors are not subjected to permanent mechanical tensile load or vibration.
- Connectors shall not be under strain from cable management.
