Safety Instructions
Importance of the Assembly Instructions
Non-compliance with assembly and safety instructions can lead to life-threatening injuries due to electric shock, electric arcs, fire, or system failure.
- Follow all assembly instructions.
- Use and install the product only according to these instructions and technical data.
- Safely store instructions and pass them to end-users.
Requirements for Personnel
Assembly, installation, and commissioning must be performed by an electrician or an electrically instructed person.
- An electrician has professional training, knowledge, and experience to identify and avoid electrical dangers and use appropriate personal protective equipment.
- An electrically instructed person is trained or supervised by an electrician and can identify and avoid electrical dangers.
Intended Use
In-line fuses interrupt DC circuits during over-current events.
Prerequisites for Installation and Assembly
- NEVER use a damaged connector or in-line fuse.
- ONLY use tools and procedures approved by Stäubli.
Safe Assembly and Mounting
Live parts can remain energized after isolation or disconnection. ALWAYS de-energize the photovoltaic array or string before installing the product.
Mating and Disconnecting
- ALWAYS de-energize the photovoltaic system before mating and disconnecting connectors.
- NEVER disconnect connectors under load.
- NEVER connect Stäubli connector parts with connectors from other manufacturers.
- NEVER reconnect a string without an in-line fuse if it was previously disconnected.
Do NOT Modify NOR Repair Component
- Do NOT modify the component.
- Replace defective components.

Tools and Installation Procedure
Tools/Assembly Materials Required
For integration into a PV cable harness system:
For MC4-Evo 2 connectors: Assembly and unlocking tool, PV-MS-PLS, order No. 32.6058.
Note: Refer to Operating instructions MA270, www.staubli.com/electrical.
Installation Procedure
Important Electric Shock Hazard: Do not disconnect the In-line Fuse under load nor connect it in an electrical circuit that is under load.
Image shows the Stäubli MC4-Evo 2 In-line Fuse (PV-K/1500ILF3) connected to cables. Separate images show PV-BVK4 and PV-SVK4 sealing caps.
Step 1: Preparation
Using the appropriate disconnect tool, separate the mated connector pair where the In-line Fuse will be located.
Image sequence shows the process of disconnecting a connector pair using a specialized tool.
Notes on Installation
General Notes on Installation
- Unmated connectors must be protected from environmental impact (moisture, dirt, dust, etc.) with sealing caps (socket order no. 32.0716; plug order no. 32.0717).
- Do not mate contaminated connectors.
- Connectors must not come into contact with any chemicals.
Cable Routing
Cable management must allow a minimum of 20 mm of cable that exits directly from the cable seal without bending or stress. Refer to cable manufacturers' specifications for minimum bending radius. When installing in bundles (n > 1), consider product temperature ratings and relevant standards/regulations.
Diagram illustrates proper cable routing, showing a cable exiting a seal with a minimum length of 20 mm indicated.
Contaminated/Damaged Connectors
- Prevent connectors from contamination by the environment (e.g., soil, water, insects, dust).
- Do not allow the connector surface to be contaminated (e.g., stickers, paint, heat shrink tubing).
- Do not place the connector directly on the roofing surface.
- Do not place the connector at the lowest point of cabling where water can collect.
- Do not allow the connector to be in standing water.
- Do not mount cable ties directly on the connector body.
Mechanical Stress
- Ensure connectors are not subjected to permanent mechanical tensile load or vibration.
- Connectors shall not be under strain from cable management.
