Installation and Operation Guide

Product Overview

The Minoston MS10Z is a Z-Wave Plus certified smart on/off switch designed for modern home automation. It offers versatile control options, including manual operation and wireless Z-Wave control, supporting 3-way configurations and custom scene functions. It features S2 security, a 500 series Z-Wave chip, and over-the-air (OTA) firmware updates.

CAUTION - PLEASE READ! This device is intended for installation in accordance with the National Electric Code and local regulations. If unsure, consult a qualified electrician.

WARNING - SHOCK HAZARD: Turn off power at the circuit breaker before installation. Ensure all wiring connections are made with the power off.

MEDICAL EQUIPMENT: Do not use this switch to control medical or life support equipment. Z-Wave devices should never be used for this purpose.

CONTROLLING APPLIANCES: Exercise extreme caution when using Z-Wave devices to control appliances. Avoid including devices that control hazardous appliances in groups or scenes.

FCC / IC Compliance: This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules and Industry Canada license-exempt RSS standards. Modifications may void authority to operate.

Part 1: Installation

  1. Turn off power: Locate and turn off the circuit breaker for the light control. Verify power is off.
  2. Detach old switch: Unscrew the old switch from the wall box.
  3. Identify wires:
    • LINE (Hot): Typically Black (connected to power)
    • NEUTRAL: Typically White
    • LOAD: Typically Black (connected to lighting)
    • GROUND: Green or Bare Copper
    • TRAVELER: Red or Other (only for 3-way installations)
  4. Install wires: Connect the wires to the MS10Z switch according to the wiring diagrams provided (single-pole or 3-way). Ensure the neutral wire is correctly connected in 3-way setups.
  5. Fix the shell: Secure the switch to the wall box using the provided screws.
  6. Turn on power: Restore power at the circuit breaker and test the switch.

Note: For 3-way setups, use only an On/Off, 3-way slave switch (non-dimming). The Traveler terminal is only used for 3-way wiring.

Single Switch Wiring:

3-Way Switch Wiring:

Diagram Description: Illustrates the wiring for a 3-way setup, including connections for Line, Load, Neutral, Ground, and Traveler wires between the smart switch and a regular 3-way switch. Two options (Option 1 and Option 2) are presented, showing different configurations for the traveler wire.

Important Note: If your Line and Load wires are not in the same box, please contact Minoston for a custom schematic.

Local Button Functions

Z-Wave Network Inclusion

1. Set your Z-Wave controller/hub to inclusion mode.

2. Triple press the Up/Down push button quickly on the MS10Z to include it in the network.

Z-Wave Network Exclusion

1. Set your Z-Wave controller/hub to exclusion mode.

2. Triple press the Up/Down push button quickly on the MS10Z to exclude it from the network.

Scene Functions

Works with Alexa & Google Assistant

Requires a compatible Z-Wave hub to interact with Amazon Alexa or Google Home services.

Parameter 1: Button Function Setting
Size=1, Value=0 (Default), 1, 2
  • Value 0: Up button ON, Down button OFF.
  • Value 1: Up button OFF, Down button ON.
  • Value 2: Both buttons change light state.

Note: Switching values requires quick presses of button 7 times.

Parameter 2: LED Indicator Status Setting
Size=1, Value=0 (Default), 1, 2, 3
  • Value 0: LED ON when switch OFF, LED OFF when switch ON.
  • Value 1: LED ON when switch ON, LED OFF when switch OFF.
  • Value 2: LED always OFF.
  • Value 3: LED always ON.

Note: Switching values requires quick presses of button 6 times.

Parameter 8: Restores State after Power Failure
Size=1, Value=1, 2 (Default)
  • Value 1: Switch is OFF after power failure.
  • Value 2: Switch returns to state before power failure.

Note: Switching values requires quick presses of button 8 times.

Parameter 4: Auto Turn-Off Timer
Size=4, Values: 0 – 65535 (minutes)
Value 0 (default): Set up on the hub. The number entered corresponds to minutes. Set up on the hub.
Parameter 6: Auto Turn-On Timer
Size=4, Values: 0 – 65535 (minutes)
Value 0 (default): Set up on the hub. The number entered corresponds to minutes. Set up on the hub.
Parameter 7: Direct Control of Other Devices
Size=1, Default = 1
  • Value 00 – none
  • Value 01 - local
  • Value 02 - 3way
  • Value 03 - 3way & local
  • Value 04 - z-wave hub
  • Value 05 - z-wave hub & local
  • Value 06 - z-wave hub & 3-way

Troubleshooting

Warranty

Minoston warrants this product to be free from manufacturing defects for one year from the original date of purchase. This warranty covers repair or replacement and does not extend to consequential damages. This warranty is in lieu of all other warranties, expressed or implied.
