Product Overview
The Minoston MS13Z Smart Toggle Dimmer Switch offers manual and wireless control of lighting, supporting 3-way configurations with a regular or dummy switch. It features a built-in Z-Wave Plus signal repeater, S2 security protocol, and the latest 500 series Z-Wave chip. The switch also supports Over-The-Air (OTA) firmware updates and customized parameter settings, including brightness calibration for different LED brands.

Important Safety Information
WARNING - SHOCK HAZARD: Always turn off the power to the circuit at the service panel (circuit breaker) before installation or performing any wiring connections. Ensure power is off to avoid personal injury and/or damage to the switch.
Medical Equipment Warning: Do not use this switch to control medical or life support equipment. Z-Wave devices should never be used to control the On/Off status of such equipment.
Appliance Control Warning: Exercise extreme caution when using Z-Wave devices to control appliances, especially those in separate rooms. Unintentional behavior could lead to hazardous conditions. Avoid including Z-Wave devices in Groups or Scenes if they control appliances, and do not use them to control electric heaters or other appliances that could present a hazard due to unattended or automatic power control.
Pre-installation Preparation:
- For 3-Way setups, use only an On/Off, 3-Way slave switch (non-dimming).
- The fixture controlled by the switch must not exceed 150W LED or 500W incandescent.
- The switch is designed only for use with permanently installed fixtures.
- The Traveler terminal is only used for 3-way wiring.
- Ensure the line and load are in the same box for the provided schematic. If not, contact for a custom schematic.
Tools Required: Flat head screwdriver, wire stripper, voltmeter.
Installation Instructions
General Installation:
- Turn off power at the circuit breaker.
- Remove the existing switch from the switch box.
- Identify wires: LINE (Black, connected to power), NEUTRAL (White), LOAD (Black, connected to lighting), GROUND (Green/Bare), TRAVELER (Red/Other, for 3-way installations).
- Connect the Smart Switch according to the wiring diagram.
- If installing in multiple gang boxes, break off one or both sides of the scored tabs on the front yoke.
- Place the device in the switch box and secure it with screws.
- Turn the power supply back on.
Wiring Diagrams:
Single Switch:
- Connect LINE wire to the switch's LINE terminal.
- Connect NEUTRAL wire to the switch's NEUTRAL terminal.
- Connect LOAD wire to the switch's LOAD terminal.
- Connect GROUND wire to the switch's GROUND terminal.
3-Way Switch Option 1:
- Connect LINE wire to the switch's LINE terminal.
- Connect NEUTRAL wire to the switch's NEUTRAL terminal.
- Connect LOAD wire to the switch's LOAD terminal.
- Connect GROUND wire to the switch's GROUND terminal.
- Connect the TRAVELER wire from the existing 3-way switch to the switch's TRAVELER terminal.
3-Way Switch Option 2:
- Connect LINE wire to the switch's LINE terminal.
- Connect NEUTRAL wire to the switch's NEUTRAL terminal.
- Connect LOAD wire to the switch's LOAD terminal.
- Connect GROUND wire to the switch's GROUND terminal.
- Connect the TRAVELER wire from the existing 3-way switch to the switch's TRAVELER terminal.
Air-Gap Switch for Bulb Replacement:
Push the air-gap switch to the left for bulb replacement. Push it back for normal use. This cuts off power to the switch for safety during bulb changes.
Z-Wave Interoperability and Inclusion
This product can be included and operated in any Z-Wave network with other certified Z-Wave devices. Non-battery operated nodes act as repeaters to increase network reliability.
Inclusion: Set your controller/hub to "inclusion" mode, then triple-press the Up/Down push button quickly.
Exclusion: Set your controller/hub to "exclusion" mode, then triple-press the Up/Down push button quickly.
Lifeline (Association Group 1): Supports 1 node ID for lifeline communication, typically the primary controller.
Association Group 2: Supports up to 5 node IDs for sending Basic Set ON/Off commands.
Parameter Settings
Configuration parameters are changed by quickly pressing the main button a specified number of times. The LED flashes twice upon successful change.
Parameter 1: Locally Button Function
- Size: 1 byte
- Values:
- 0: Up Button On / Down Button Off (Default)
- 1: Up Button Off / Down Button On
- 2: Any paddle changes the state (On/Off)
Parameter 2: LED Indicator
- Size: 1 byte
- Default: 0
- Values:
- 0: On when Off, Off when On
- 1: On when On, Off when Off
- 2: Always Off
- 3: Always On
Parameter 3: Auto Turn-Off Timer
- Size: 4 bytes
- Values: 0 - 65535 (minutes)
- Default: 0 (minutes)
Parameter 4: Auto Turn-On Timer
- Size: 4 bytes
- Values: 0 - 65535 (minutes)
- Default: 0 (minutes)
Parameter 5: Association Setting
- Size: 1 byte
- Default: 15
- Values: 0 (none) to 15 (all associations)
Parameter 6: Restore State After Power Failure
- Size: 1 byte
- Values:
- 0: Output Off
- 1: Output On
- 2: Restore state after power failure (Default)
Parameter 7: Dimmer Speed (excluding local press & hold)
- Size: 1 byte
- Default: 1
- Values: 1 (1s transition) to 10 (10s transition)
Parameter 8: Dimmer Speed (local press & hold only)
- Size: 1 byte
- Default: 4
- Values: 1 (1s transition) to 10 (10s transition)
Parameter 9: Multilevel Minimum Value Setting
- Size: 1 byte
- Default: 10
- Values: 0 (disable) to 99
Locally Button Press Functions
- Press 1x: Turn output ON (to last set brightness level) or OFF.
- Hold: Dimmer up or dimmer down (relates to Parameter 1).
- Press 2x quickly: Send scene 1/scene 2.
- Press 3x quickly: Inclusion or exclusion.
- Press 5x quickly: Set the minimum brightness level.
- Press 6x quickly: Change LED Indicator Parameter (Parameter 2).
- Press 7x quickly: Change locally button function (Parameter 1).
- Press 8x quickly: Change Parameter 8 (Dimmer speed for local press & hold).
- Factory Reset: Click Z-Wave button 2 times quickly, then hold for at least 10 seconds.
Min / Max Brightness Level Setting
- Press the button 5 times quickly (up/down). The blue indicator light flashes slowly, entering "Min brightness" mode. The load lamp automatically adjusts to the minimum brightness.
- Press the up or down button to adjust the brightness to the desired minimum level.
- Quickly press the button 5 times (up/down) to confirm. The switch enters "Max Brightness" setting mode. The bulb adjusts to the maximum brightness.
- Press the up or down button to adjust the brightness to the desired maximum level.
- Press the button 5 times (up/down) to confirm.
- The bulb brightness will cycle from the set minimum to maximum, then back to minimum, finally staying at the set minimum brightness. The blue indicator light stops flashing.
- Min / Max brightness level settings are completed.
Note: If not confirmed at Step 3 or Step 5, the setting mode will exit after 10 seconds, and the adjusted value will not be saved.
LED Status Indicators
- Flash two times: Configuration parameter changed successfully.
- Flash quickly: Inclusion, exclusion, or reset in progress.
- Flash slowly: Entering "Min/Max brightness" setting mode.
Troubleshooting

Minoston warrants this product to be free from manufacturing defects for one year from the original date of consumer purchase. This warranty is limited to the repair or replacement of this product only and does not extend to consequential or incidental damage to other products used with this product.
