Minoston Smart Toggle Dimmer Switch - Model MS13Z

Product Overview

The Minoston MS13Z Smart Toggle Dimmer Switch offers manual and wireless control of lighting, supporting 3-way configurations with a regular or dummy switch. It features a built-in Z-Wave Plus signal repeater, S2 security protocol, and the latest 500 series Z-Wave chip. The switch also supports Over-The-Air (OTA) firmware updates and customized parameter settings, including brightness calibration for different LED brands.

Important Safety Information

WARNING - SHOCK HAZARD: Always turn off the power to the circuit at the service panel (circuit breaker) before installation or performing any wiring connections. Ensure power is off to avoid personal injury and/or damage to the switch.

Medical Equipment Warning: Do not use this switch to control medical or life support equipment. Z-Wave devices should never be used to control the On/Off status of such equipment.

Appliance Control Warning: Exercise extreme caution when using Z-Wave devices to control appliances, especially those in separate rooms. Unintentional behavior could lead to hazardous conditions. Avoid including Z-Wave devices in Groups or Scenes if they control appliances, and do not use them to control electric heaters or other appliances that could present a hazard due to unattended or automatic power control.

Pre-installation Preparation:

Tools Required: Flat head screwdriver, wire stripper, voltmeter.

Installation Instructions

General Installation:

  1. Turn off power at the circuit breaker.
  2. Remove the existing switch from the switch box.
  3. Identify wires: LINE (Black, connected to power), NEUTRAL (White), LOAD (Black, connected to lighting), GROUND (Green/Bare), TRAVELER (Red/Other, for 3-way installations).
  4. Connect the Smart Switch according to the wiring diagram.
  5. If installing in multiple gang boxes, break off one or both sides of the scored tabs on the front yoke.
  6. Place the device in the switch box and secure it with screws.
  7. Turn the power supply back on.

Air-Gap Switch for Bulb Replacement:

Push the air-gap switch to the left for bulb replacement. Push it back for normal use. This cuts off power to the switch for safety during bulb changes.

Z-Wave Interoperability and Inclusion

This product can be included and operated in any Z-Wave network with other certified Z-Wave devices. Non-battery operated nodes act as repeaters to increase network reliability.

Inclusion: Set your controller/hub to "inclusion" mode, then triple-press the Up/Down push button quickly.

Exclusion: Set your controller/hub to "exclusion" mode, then triple-press the Up/Down push button quickly.

Lifeline (Association Group 1): Supports 1 node ID for lifeline communication, typically the primary controller.

Association Group 2: Supports up to 5 node IDs for sending Basic Set ON/Off commands.

Parameter Settings

Configuration parameters are changed by quickly pressing the main button a specified number of times. The LED flashes twice upon successful change.

Parameter 6: Restore State After Power Failure

Parameter 7: Dimmer Speed (excluding local press & hold)

Parameter 8: Dimmer Speed (local press & hold only)

Parameter 9: Multilevel Minimum Value Setting

Locally Button Press Functions

Min / Max Brightness Level Setting

  1. Press the button 5 times quickly (up/down). The blue indicator light flashes slowly, entering "Min brightness" mode. The load lamp automatically adjusts to the minimum brightness.
  2. Press the up or down button to adjust the brightness to the desired minimum level.
  3. Quickly press the button 5 times (up/down) to confirm. The switch enters "Max Brightness" setting mode. The bulb adjusts to the maximum brightness.
  4. Press the up or down button to adjust the brightness to the desired maximum level.
  5. Press the button 5 times (up/down) to confirm.
  6. The bulb brightness will cycle from the set minimum to maximum, then back to minimum, finally staying at the set minimum brightness. The blue indicator light stops flashing.
  7. Min / Max brightness level settings are completed.

Note: If not confirmed at Step 3 or Step 5, the setting mode will exit after 10 seconds, and the adjusted value will not be saved.

Troubleshooting

Possible Problem Possible Cause Solution
Connected LED is flashing/too bright at minimum brightness level. LED brightness minimum setting is incorrect. Set the minimum brightness level according to the manual.
Couldn't pair with hub / Hub cannot recognize the device. The device needs to be reset before pairing. Reset the device according to the manual.
Device couldn't turn lights on/off manually. Wiring error. Check the wiring diagram in the manual.
Smart switch is working, but the 3-way switch is not. 3-way Wiring error. Check the wiring diagram in the manual.

Warranty Information

Minoston warrants this product to be free from manufacturing defects for one year from the original date of consumer purchase. This warranty is limited to the repair or replacement of this product only and does not extend to consequential or incidental damage to other products used with this product. This warranty is in lieu of all other warranties, expressed or implied. Some states do not allow limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts or permit the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damage, so the above limitations may not apply to you. This warranty gives you specific rights, and you may also have other rights which vary from state to state.
