AT&T U-verse TV Point Anywhere RF Remote Control User Guide
Introduction
Congratulations on your purchase of the AT&T U-verse TV Point Anywhere RF Remote Control. This product is designed to provide many unique and convenient features to enhance your AT&T U-verse experience. Your new remote control, along with the USB converter, offers the flexibility of not needing to "point" your remote control at the U-verse Receiver to change channels or access receiver features. As a Universal Remote Control, it can be programmed to control up to three additional devices, such as a TV or DVD player. A key benefit is its ability to "learn" commands from other devices' remotes, eliminating the need to find correct codes or worry about compatibility. If you have the original remote for your TV or other devices, you can program those keys into your new AT&T U-verse RF Remote Control.
Note: The RF Remote Control exclusively controls the AT&T U-verse Receiver using the USB Converter via RF (radio frequency) signals. All other devices are controlled via IR (Infrared) signals.
Function Keys of Your RF Remote Control
The remote control features various keys for operation:
- Mode Keys: (AT&T TV DVD AUX) for selecting the device to control.
- SCAN BACK - FWD: For scanning backward and forward.
- OK Key: For selection and confirmation.
- Backlit Group: Includes Pause, Menu, Guide, Mute, Last.
- VOLUME UP / DOWN: Controls volume levels.
- DELETE: For deleting or backspacing.
- POWER Key: Turns devices on or off.
- Ready to Learn (Green LED): Indicates the remote is ready to learn commands.
- LEARN Key: Initiates the learning function.
- Select Key to Learn (Red LED): Indicates the remote is ready to learn a specific key.
- FWD Key: For fast forwarding.
- CHANNEL UP / DOWN: For changing channels.
- ENTER: Confirms selections or programming.
Quick Setup Guide
1. How to activate the batteries
The remote comes with two AA Alkaline batteries pre-installed.
- Pull the Tab on the back of the RF Remote Control straight out.
- Press the AT&T key. The AT&T key will light up. If it does not light up, refer to Troubleshooting on Page 19.
2. How to install the USB Converter
- Remove the USB plug cover from the USB Converter.
- Plug the USB Converter into the USB port on the front of your AT&T U-verse Receiver. The blue power LED on the USB Converter will light and stay on.
Note: The USB Converter must be installed in the front USB port of the U-verse Receiver. It will not operate if installed in the back USB ports. After installation, test the POWER, CHANNEL, and VOLUME keys. If issues arise, the USB Converter can be swiveled for optimal performance.
3. Setting up your Remote to control other devices (TV/DVD/etc)
To control other devices, your RF Remote Control needs to be programmed. For older devices, the remote contains IR codes. For newer models (less than 6 months old), the remote will likely need to "learn" the IR codes.
- For older devices: Start with Section 3A (Search for Device Codes). If Method 1 fails, use Section 3B (Learning Device Codes).
- For newer devices (less than 6 months old): Start with Section 3B (Learning Device Codes).
3A. Search for Device Codes
This method scans IR codes to find a compatible one for your TV or other device.
- Power on the device to be programmed.
- Point the RF Remote Control at the device.
- Press and hold a mode key (TV, DVD, or AUX) along with the ENTER key for one second, then release. The four mode keys will flash twice, indicating search mode.
- Repeatedly press the SCAN→\FF key until the device turns OFF. The selected mode key will flash once with each press. Pause briefly between presses.
- Press the POWER button on the RF Remote to power the device back on.
- Check VOLUME +, -, and MUTE, as well as CHANNEL +, -, and LAST keys. Do not test REW\SCAN, EXIT, or number keys. If any function doesn't work, continue searching until all functions operate properly.
- Press the ENTER key to save the programming. A long flash and beep will confirm success.
Note: If the device does not turn off after searching all codes, you will hear 8 beeps and the mode key will flash 8 times. Restart from Step 2 or proceed to 3B. If the device does not turn on, you may have pressed SCAN→\FF too many times; press REW\SCAN to scan backward and test POWER again. If programming is interrupted or inactive for over 15 seconds, the remote will emit 8 short beeps and the mode keys will flash, returning to normal operation without saving.
3B. Learning Device Codes
This method requires the original remote for the device you wish to program.
- Press and hold the LEARN key until the four mode keys flash, then release.
- Press the mode key for the device you want to control. The red SELECT KEY TO LEARN indicator will flash.
- Place the RF Remote Control head-to-head with the original remote, about 1"-2" apart.
- Press the key you want to program on the RF Remote Control once (e.g., POWER). The green READY TO LEARN indicator will light.
- Press and hold the corresponding key on the original remote until the RF Remote Control emits a long beep, indicating it has learned the command.
- Press the next key to program on the RF Remote Control (e.g., VOLUME + or - , or MUTE).
- Press and hold the corresponding key on the original remote until the RF Remote Control emits a long beep, indicating it has learned and saved the command.
- Repeat steps 6 and 7 to program additional keys.
- Press the LEARN key to save and exit Learning mode.
Note: If programming is interrupted or inactive for over 15 seconds, the remote will emit 8 short beeps and the mode keys will flash, returning to normal operation without saving any changes.
