Quick Start Guide
Safety Instructions
- Do not repair, disassemble, or modify the device without manufacturer authorization.
- Do not use the device in extremely high or low temperatures, in dusty conditions, or with high humidity. Protect the device from water and other liquids.
- The device may heat up during charging.
- Protect the device from drops, impacts, or friction against hard objects, as this may cause scratches, battery disconnection, data loss, or other damage. Also protect from strong shaking and vibration.
- To avoid hearing damage or audio system malfunction, listen to music at a moderate volume. Lower the volume before connecting headphones.
- Do not use chemicals or cleaning agents to clean the device, as this may damage its surface and finish.
- Do not turn off the device during formatting or file transfer, as this may cause a program error.
- The USB port is for data transfer or charging only. Try not to use the device while charging.
- Even if you do not use the device for a long time, continue to charge it regularly to maintain the battery's working condition.
- If replacing the battery, use a battery of the same type as the original. Incorrect battery replacement may cause an explosion.
- Protect the battery from direct sunlight and fire.
- Download the update file from our official website http://en.shanling.com and perform the update according to the instructions.
Controls and Connectors
The device features a 4.2-inch touchscreen display (768x1280).
Top Edge: Micro SD card slot [micro SD slot], USB-C port for data transfer [USB-C port].
Left Side: Power/lock button [power button], Status indicator.
Right Side: Playback controls: Play/pause button [play/pause button], Previous track button [previous track button], Next track button [next track button].
Bottom Edge: 3.5mm headphone/line-out jack [headphone jack], 4.4mm balanced headphone jack [headphone jack].
Construction Features: Removing Micro SD Card
- Press the left edge of the slot cover to release it.
- Gently lift the slot cover.
- Rotate the cover downwards to open the slot and remove the Micro SD card.
Operating Instructions
Power On/Off / Screen Lock
- Power On: Press and hold the power button [power button] for 2 seconds; the status indicator will light up, and the device will turn on.
- Power Off: Press and hold the power button [power button] for 2 seconds. Two on-screen buttons, "Power Off" and "Restart", will appear. Tap "Power Off" to turn off the device.
- Screen Lock: When the device is on, briefly press the power button [power button] to lock the screen and turn off the display. To unlock the display, press the power button [power button] again.
Navigation Panel (Settings - Display - Virtual Key Mode)
- [back arrow gesture]: Return to the previous screen.
- [home icon gesture]: Return to the home screen.
- [multitasking icon gesture]: Multitasking.
Gesture Control / Floating Ball Control
Gesture Mode = Settings - Display - Virtual Key Mode
- Return to previous screen: Swipe the screen from left to right or right to left [swipe left/right gesture].
- Return to home screen: Swipe the screen from bottom to top [swipe up gesture].
- Multitasking: Swipe from bottom to top and hold your finger on the screen [hold and swipe up gesture].
Floating Ball Mode = Settings - Display - Virtual Key Mode
- Return to previous screen: Tap the floating ball [floating ball icon].
- Return to home screen: Tap and hold the floating ball [floating ball icon] on the screen.
- Multitasking: Double-tap the floating ball [floating ball icon] on the screen.
Playback Controls
- Previous [previous track icon]: Tap to go to the previous track or the beginning of the current track. Press and hold to rewind within the current track.
- Next [next track icon]: Tap to go to the next track. Press and hold to fast-forward within the current track.
- Play/Pause [play/pause icon]: Tap to start or pause playback.
Volume Control
Rotate the wheel [volume wheel] clockwise to increase volume. Rotate the wheel [volume wheel] counter-clockwise to decrease volume.
Charging
The device supports QC3.0 fast charging and standard USB charging. When the USB cable is connected, the display shows the battery charging icon and power level. During charging, the status indicator glows red and turns off after the battery is fully charged.
Micro SD Card Slot
- This slot is for standard Micro SD cards with a capacity of up to 2 TB.
- Open the slot cover, insert the Micro SD card [micro SD slot] in the indicated direction, and press until it clicks to secure it. To remove the card, press it again.
Firmware Update
Before updating the firmware, ensure the device is fully charged. Do not attempt to use the player while the update is in progress.
Wireless Update
When connected to a Wi-Fi network, the device automatically searches for new firmware updates. To manually check for updates, navigate to Menu > Technical Support > Firmware Update > Online Update and tap "Check for Update".
Micro SD Card Update
- Download the firmware update from the official Shanling website. Copy the latest firmware version file to the root directory of the Micro SD card.
- Navigate to Menu > Technical Support > Firmware Update > Local Update, select the firmware file path, and tap "Update".
Possible Problems and Solutions
- It is recommended to use a 5V/2A DC adapter. Using an adapter with a higher voltage may damage the device.
- M3X does not turn on: This may be due to a depleted battery. Charge the device and try turning it on again.
- System freeze or crash: Press and hold the power button [power button] for 12 seconds to force shutdown. To turn on after a forced shutdown, press and hold the power button [power button] for 12 seconds again.
- Noise in headphones: The plug may not be fully inserted. Try re-inserting it.
- No sound: Try using different headphones or a different cable, and check the volume control [volume wheel] position.

MQA
The M3X model uses MQA technology, which allows playback of audio files and streaming audio data with sound quality identical to the original master recording.
A green indicator light indicates that the M3X is decoding and playing an MQA stream or file, and confirms the source's authenticity, thus guaranteeing sound quality identical to the original material. A blue indicator light indicates that the player is playing a studio MQA file approved by the artist/producer in the studio, or authenticated by the copyright holder.
