RIVERSIDE 520E Electric Bike User Manual
Date of last update: 16/01/2023
Introduction
Dear customers, thank you for purchasing a RIVERSIDE electric bike. We invite you to read this instruction manual to fully enjoy your RIVERSIDE 520E bike.
Remember that an electric assist bike is not a moped; it requires your participation to go further, faster, and longer. We encourage you to familiarize yourself with your electric assist bike in an open space to get a feel for the motor's engagement and ensure optimal control.
An electric assist bike is heavier than a conventional bike (the RIVERSIDE 520E weighs 22.5 kg empty). Pedaling without assistance can be more difficult. Always ensure you are capable of completing your journey without assistance in case of a breakdown.
Here are some best practices to fully enjoy your RIVERSIDE electric bike.
Note: This manual only covers the electrical specificities of your bike. Please refer to the common B'TWIN user guide for all our bikes, which accompanies this document and is also available on our website www.decathlon.com or upon request in DECATHLON stores.
Best Practices for Enjoying Your E-Bike
- Tire Pressure: For optimal performance and handling, maintain tire pressure between 4 and 5 bar. Insufficiently inflated tires increase the risk of punctures.
- Battery Charging: Recharge the battery completely at least every 6 months, even if not in use.
- Cold Weather: Range will be reduced in cold temperatures.
- Overloading: Range will be reduced if the bike is overloaded (e.g., with bags, child seats).
- Uphill Riding: Range will be reduced when riding uphill.
- Battery Removal: Remove the battery before performing any maintenance.
- Low Battery Mode: It is advised to reduce the assistance mode when the battery level is low.
Product Description
E-Bike Technical Specifications
The RIVERSIDE 520E electric bike can be used with or without assistance by activating the ON/OFF button or by using the 0-1-2-3 modes. The assistance modes 0-1-2-3, selectable on the 'D' screen, allow you to choose the level of electric assistance in addition to your pedaling effort. Electric assistance will only engage if you are pedaling, for modes other than 0. Assistance cuts off at speeds above 25 km/h. In intensive use or exceptional climatic conditions, assistance may cut off to preserve the system's integrity.
The power supplied is calculated by the controller 'C' based on your pedaling cadence and the force applied to the pedals. According to the selected mode, the controller 'C' sends more or less current to the motor 'F' to provide the desired assistance.

Battery and Charger
Battery Properties and Warranty
All electric bike batteries use Lithium-Ion cell technology and have no memory effect. The battery can be recharged at any time. It is recommended to recharge the battery after each use. Perform a full charge before the first use.
- Battery: 36 V / 14 Ah, 504Wh
- Charger: Input: 100-240V, Output: 42V
Your battery is guaranteed for 2 years or 500 charge/discharge cycles (1 cycle = 1 charge from 0% to 100% + 1 discharge from 100% to 0%, or 2 charges from 50%). This is subject to proper usage and storage conditions. Never use a charger other than the one supplied by DECATHLON for this bike model. Using another charger may damage the battery or cause incidents (sparks, fire).
Autonomy
The autonomy of your electric bike depends on several factors:
- Bike Load: Autonomy is reduced if the bike is overloaded (bags, child seat, etc.).
- Riding Style: Autonomy depends on the rider's effort.
- Terrain: Autonomy is reduced on inclines.
- Tire Pressure: Autonomy is better with tires inflated between 4 and 5 bar.
- External Temperature: Autonomy is reduced in cold weather.
- Assistance Mode: It is advised to reduce the assistance mode when the battery level is low.
- Gear Ratio: On steep climbs, choose the appropriate gear to limit effort for both you and the motor.
- Battery Care: Proper charging and storage practices are essential. For a 75kg cyclist, in light wind, in mode 1, the RIVERSIDE 520E's estimated range is around 100 km.
