Maintenance and Troubleshooting
Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and reduces wear. Inspect and tighten all parts each time the treadmill is used. Replace worn parts immediately with manufacturer-supplied parts.
Clean the treadmill regularly. Keep the walking belt clean and dry. Press the power switch off and unplug the power cord. Wipe exterior parts with a damp cloth and mild soap. IMPORTANT: Do not spray liquids directly onto the treadmill; keep liquids away from the console. Thoroughly dry with a soft towel.
Troubleshooting
Most problems can be solved by following these steps. Find the symptom and follow the listed solutions. For further assistance, see the front cover.
Symptom: The power does not turn on
- a. If using an extension cord, ensure it is a 3-conductor, 14-gauge (2 mm²) cord no longer than 5 ft. (1.5 m).
- b. After plugging in the power cord, ensure the key is inserted into the console.
- c. Check the power switch on the treadmill frame. If it protrudes (A), it has tripped. Wait five minutes and press it back in (B) to reset.
Symptom: The power turns off during use
- a. Check the power switch. If tripped, wait five minutes and press it back in.
- b. Ensure the power cord is plugged in. If it is, unplug it, wait five minutes, and plug it back in.
- c. Remove and reinsert the key from the console.
- d. If the treadmill still does not run, see the front cover of this manual.
Symptom: The incline of the treadmill does not change correctly
- a. See step 6 on page 27 to calibrate the incline system.
Symptom: The treadmill will not connect to the wireless network
- a. Verify wireless settings on the console are correct (page 27).
- b. Ensure your wireless network settings are correct.
- c. For further questions, go to support.iFIT.com.
Symptom: The walking belt slows when walked on
- a. Extension cord requirements are the same as listed above.
- b. If the walking belt is overtightened, performance may decrease and damage may occur. Remove the key, UNPLUG THE POWER CORD. Using the hex key, turn both idler roller screws (C) counterclockwise 1/4 turn. The belt should lift 2-3 inches (5-7 cm) off the platform when edges are lifted. Keep the belt centered. Plug in, insert key, and walk for a few minutes. Repeat until properly tightened.
- c. The walking belt has high-performance lubricant. IMPORTANT: Never apply silicone spray or other substances unless instructed by an authorized service representative, as they can deteriorate the belt and cause wear. If lubricant is suspected to be low, see the front cover.
- d. If the belt still slows, see the front cover.
Symptom: The walking belt is not centered between the foot rails
- a. IMPORTANT: If the belt rubs against foot rails (D), damage may occur. Remove key, UNPLUG POWER CORD. If shifted left, turn left idler roller screw clockwise 1/2 turn. If shifted right, turn left idler roller screw counterclockwise 1/2 turn. Be careful not to overtighten. Plug in, insert key, walk for a few minutes, and repeat until centered.
Symptom: The walking belt slips when walked on
- a. Remove key, UNPLUG POWER CORD. Using the hex key, turn both idler roller screws clockwise 1/4 turn. The belt should lift 2-3 inches (5-7 cm) off the platform when edges are lifted. Keep the belt centered. Plug in, insert key, walk for a few minutes, and repeat until properly tightened.
Symptom: The displays of the console do not function properly
- a. Remove key, UNPLUG POWER CORD. Remove five #8 x 3/4" Screws (4) and pivot off the Motor Hood (65). Locate the Reed Switch (111) and Magnet (110) on the Pulley (53). Align Magnet with Reed Switch, ensuring a gap of about 1/8" (3 mm). If needed, loosen #8 x 3/4" Screw (4), adjust Reed Switch, and retighten. Reattach Motor Hood and test speed reading.
- b. If the console does not boot or freezes, reset to factory defaults (erases custom settings). This requires two people. Turn power switch off. Locate small reset opening (E) on console side. Using a bent paper clip (F), press and hold the reset button inside the opening while a second person presses the power switch to the ON (reset) position. Continue holding reset button (E) until console turns on. It will then turn off and back on. If not, power cycle the treadmill. Check for firmware updates (step 5, page 26).
Exercise Guidelines
WARNING: Before beginning any exercise program, consult your physician. This is especially important for persons over age 35 or persons with pre-existing health problems.
These guidelines help plan your exercise program. For detailed information, consult a reputable book or your physician. Proper nutrition and rest are essential.
Exercise Intensity
Exercising at the proper intensity is key to achieving results for fat burning or cardiovascular strengthening. Use your heart rate as a guide. The chart shows recommended heart rates for fat burning and aerobic exercise.
Find your age at the bottom of the chart (rounded to nearest ten years). The three numbers above your age define your "training zone": lowest for fat burning, middle for maximum fat burning, highest for aerobic exercise.
- Burning Fat: Exercise at low intensity for sustained periods. Your body uses carbs first, then stored fat. For fat burning, aim for the lowest number in your training zone. For maximum fat burning, aim for the middle number.
- Aerobic Exercise: To strengthen your cardiovascular system, perform aerobic exercise (high oxygen demand for prolonged periods). Adjust intensity to near the highest number in your training zone.
How to Measure Your Heart Rate
Exercise for at least four minutes. Stop, place two fingers on your wrist, and count heartbeats for six seconds. Multiply by 10 for beats per minute (e.g., 14 beats x 10 = 140 bpm).
Workout Guidelines
- Warming Up: Start with 5-10 minutes of stretching and light exercise to increase body temperature, heart rate, and circulation.
- Training Zone Exercise: Exercise for 20-30 minutes within your training zone (limit to 20 minutes in the first few weeks). Breathe regularly and deeply; never hold your breath.
- Cooling Down: Finish with 5-10 minutes of stretching to increase flexibility and prevent post-exercise problems.
Exercise Frequency
To maintain or improve condition, complete three workouts weekly with at least one rest day between. After a few months, you can increase to five workouts weekly. Make exercise a regular, enjoyable part of your life.
