Safety Instructions
General Safety: The transmitter must always be supplied from an intrinsic safety barrier. All national safety regulations must be complied with during installation, start-up, and operation. This includes requirements from the Declaration of Conformity and national regulations for installation in explosion areas. Disregarding these regulations can lead to serious personal injury or extensive material damage. Work must only be performed by suitably qualified persons.
Ex Requirements: Fulfilled through certificates: DEMKO 01 ATEX 127938X, IECEx ULD 12.0005X, UKEX UL22UKEX2660X.
Special Ex Protection Instructions:
- In case of damage to the enclosure or diaphragm, the pressure transmitter must be replaced.
- End users must ensure installation complies with IEC/EN60079-25 and IEC/EN60079-14.
- ⚠️Potential Electrostatic Charging Hazard: Install only in environments with low wind speed and where rubbing on the plug is unlikely. Clean with a damp cloth. Ensure the pressure connection has a reliable connection to earth with impedance not exceeding 1 Gohm to prevent electrostatic discharge. MBS transmitters have 1.2 nF capacitance from any input terminal to earth.
- Special conditions for safe use (ATEX/IECEx): If the Ci and Li of connected apparatus exceed 1% of Co and Lo parameters (excluding cable), then 50% of Co and Lo parameters are applicable and must not be exceeded.
- Ensure the resistance to earth of metallic parts of the equipment enclosure is less than 1 GOhm.
- The equipment does not provide 500 V isolation to earth as required by IEC/EN60079-11.
- For installations requiring Category 1G equipment, the pressure connection must be gas-tight as per IEC/EN60079-26. Gaskets and seals must be suitable for the process medium.
Demands on the Medium:
- Parts in contact with the medium are made of stainless steel (EN 1088-1 1.4404 / AISI 316L).
- Users are responsible for analyzing process parameters and ensuring the medium is neutral to stainless steel, as some media can be corrosive.
- Ensure the process connection is gas-tight, potentially using a suitable gasket/seal.
- Gaskets and seals must be verified for suitability with the process medium and conditions before use.
- Ensure the transmitter pressure connection is tightened with the correct torque for the specific thread type.

Installation and Dimensions
The MBS 4201 and MBS 4251 pressure transmitters feature various connection options and physical dimensions. The following outlines the key aspects:
Physical Dimensions
The transmitter body is generally cylindrical, with the pressure connection located at the bottom and the electrical connection at the top. Key dimensions include a main body diameter of approximately Ø33.5 mm and an overall height of around 87 mm. Various pressure connection types are available, each with specific dimensions and thread standards:
- DIN3852-E-G1/4: Includes a DIN 3869-14-NBR gasket.
- G1/2A (EN 837)
- 1/4 - 18 NPT
- 1/2 - 14 NPT
- ISO 6149-2: Features an M14 x 1.5 thread with an 11.3x2.2 NBR O-ring.
- M10 x 1: Available as a female connection with a flange.
Electrical Connections: Common electrical connection types include:
- EN 175301-803-A: A standard industrial connector. Pin 1 is typically for +SUPPLY, and Pin 2 for -SUPPLY.
- ISO 15170 (Bayonet A1-3.2): Another common connector type with similar pin assignments.
- Cable Connections: Available with either a blue PVC cable or a black ETFE cable. These cables are screened and offered in various lengths, such as 2m, 5m, 7m, and 12m.
A dimensioned sketch example illustrates a typical installation, showing the transmitter body, pressure port, and electrical connector with overall measurements.
Identification
The transmitter's identification label provides critical configuration and specification details. Key elements include:
- Type no.: For example, MBS 4201-2411-A1AB08-0. This number encodes various product parameters.
- Code number: e.g., 060G4303.
