Danfoss Pressure Transmitter Type MBS 5100 and MBS 5150
For marine applications
Product Overview
The ship-approved, high-accuracy block pressure transmitter is designed for use in almost all marine applications. The MBS 5150, with an integrated pulse snubber, is suitable for marine applications with severe medium influences like cavitation, liquid hammer, or pressure peaks, offering reliable pressure measurement even under harsh environmental conditions.
Transmitters can be mounted directly on the MBV 5000 block test valve or via the threaded pressure connection. The program covers 4 – 20 mA output signal, absolute or gauge (relative) versions, with measuring ranges from 0 – 4 up to 0 – 400 bar. Excellent vibration stability, robust construction, and high EMC/EMI protection equip the pressure transmitter to meet stringent marine requirements.

Application and Media Conditions for MBS 5150
Cavitation, liquid hammer, and pressure peaks can occur in hydraulic systems with changes in flow velocity, such as fast closing of a valve or pump starts and stops. Liquid backlash can create significant, non-uniform pressure peaks that may damage the diaphragm. This can happen on the inlet and outlet sides, even at relatively low operating pressures.
Clogging of the nozzle may occur in liquids containing particles. Mounting the transmitter in an upright position minimizes the risk of clogging, as flow in the nozzle is limited to the start-up period until the dead volume behind the nozzle orifice is filled. Media viscosity has little effect on response time; even at viscosities up to 100 cSt, the response time will not exceed 4 ms.
