Model Series: ODC150 - ODC350

Brand: Black & Decker

Important Safeguards

When using electrical appliances, in order to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and/or injury, basic safety precautions should always be followed, including the following:

Polarized Plug

This appliance has a polarized plug—one blade is wider than the other. To reduce the risk of electric shock, this plug will fit into a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully into the outlet, reverse it. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not attempt to defeat this safety feature by modifying the plug in any way. ?

Tamper Resistant Screw

This appliance is equipped with a tamper-resistant screw to prevent removal of the outer cover. To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not attempt to remove the outer cover. There are no consumer serviceable parts inside. Repair should be done only by authorized service personnel. ?

How to Use

Mounting Instructions

For Spacemaker* mounting instructions, see insert sheet.

Preparation for Use

  1. Before first use, open the door, depress the Thumb Latch and pull the Water Reservoir out from the Coffeemaker. Remove all packing material, literature, Mounting Hardware, and the filter supply.
  2. Brew 12 cups of fresh water through the system as instructed in BREWING COFFEE, but do not add coffee grounds or a coffee filter.
  3. When all the water has brewed through, slide the switch to "Off."
  4. Clean the Water Reservoir, Brew Basket, Carafe and Lid. (See "Cleaning Your Coffeemaker".)

Brewing Coffee

NOTE: For clock models, the display on the clock will flash when you plug in the unit. You may set the clock at any time (see "SETTING THE CLOCK TIMER")—before or after brewing. Setting the clock will not affect normal brew operation.

  1. Remove the Brew Basket, place a coffee filter inside, and add coffee for the amount to be brewed (usually one heaping tablespoon for every two cups. Adjust to suit your taste). Replace the Brew Basket in the unit.
  2. Depress the Thumb Latch, pull out the Water Reservoir, and fill with cool water through the lid to the desired cup level (see scale next to the handle). Do not overfill the Reservoir above the bottom of the lid opening. Push the filled Reservoir back into the Coffeemaker until it snaps into place.
  3. Place the empty Carafe with Lid on the "Keeps Hot" Plate — be sure it is "seated" in the unit so that it fits against the lever at the back.
  4. For Models with the Cup Select feature, fill water only to the level you want (i.e. 4 cups) slide the switch toward the 2-4 or 5-12 side to choose your brew size.
  5. Start the brew cycle by sliding the switch to "On." A light indicates the unit is on. If you'd like to set your timer for AUTO ON (Models ODC300 Series), see "Setting the Clock/Timer."
  6. Unless your model has Automatic Shut Off, be sure to turn off your Coffeemaker after you are finished brewing and serving coffee.

Sneak-A-Cup™ Interrupt Feature

The Sneak-A-Cup™ Interrupt Feature lets you pour a cup of coffee before brewing is done. There is an automatic drip stop that allows you to remove the carafe to "sneak-a-cup" without leaking from the brew basket. (A) ☕

NOTE: The carafe must be replaced under the brew basket in less than a minute to prevent the basket from overflowing.

CAUTION: Do not pull out the Brew Basket when using this feature as it is filled with hot coffee. Be sure the carafe is placed all the way back into the unit to continue brewing after sneaking a cup.

Setting the Clock/Timer (For Models ODC300 Series)

  1. To set the current time of day: slide the Control Switch to OFF. Press the HOUR and MIN buttons until you reach the current time. A dot will appear in the upper left corner for p.m. time. ?
  2. To set the auto on time: be sure the Control Switch is in the OFF position. Press and hold the PROG button while setting the brew time with the HOUR and MIN buttons. Watch for the dot in the left corner to indicate p.m. time. ⏰
  3. To automatically brew coffee: follow the steps for preparing to brew under "Brewing Coffee," slide the Control Switch to AUTO, and the AUTO indicator light will come on. Brewing will begin at the time you have pre-set, the AUTO light will go out, and the ON light will come on. The coffeemaker will shut off automatically after 2 hours. To keep coffee warm more than 2 hours after brewing, slide the Switch to ON.
  4. NOTE: This unit will not automatically come on at the same pre-set time the next day if you simply leave it in the AUTO position. To re-set the Auto brew time: slide the Control Switch to OFF first, then back to AUTO.

Care Guide

Cleaning Your Coffeemaker

  1. To clean your Coffeemaker after brewing, be sure the unit is OFF and has cooled. Discard the paper filter and grounds, and clean as follows:
  2. Filter Basket, Carafe, and Carafe Lid are all top rack dishwasher-safe; or they may be hand washed.
  3. The unit, Reservoir, Reservoir Lid, and "Keeps Hot" Plate may be cleaned with a soft damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleansers or scouring pads. Never immerse the Coffeemaker.

Caring for Your Carafe

Mineral Deposits and Clogging

Mineral deposits left by hard water can clog your Coffeemaker. Excessive steaming or a prolonged brewing cycle are signs that a cleaning is needed (approximately every 1-3 months). During cleaning, more steaming occurs than when brewing coffee. You may want to remove the Coffeemaker from the Brackets and place it on a counter to clean.

  1. Fill the Water Reservoir to the 6-cup mark with white vinegar, add water up to the 12-cup line, and replace the Reservoir in the Coffeemaker.
  2. Put an empty paper filter in the Brew Basket, and put the Basket in place. Set the empty Carafe securely on the "Keeps Hot" Plate.
  3. Turn the Coffeemaker on. For models with the Cup Select feature, the first cleaning pass is most effective when the 2-4 cup position is selected.
  4. Let half the cleaning solution brew into the Carafe, then turn the Coffeemaker off to soak. Allow the Coffeemaker to remain off for at least 15 minutes to soften the deposits.
  5. Turn the Coffeemaker on again to brew the remaining cleaning solution into the Carafe. Use the 5-12 cup position if your model is equipped with Cup Select.
  6. Turn the Coffeemaker off; discard the cleaning solution and the soiled filter. Fill the Reservoir with cold water to the 12-cup line, replace the empty Basket and Carafe.
  7. Turn on the Coffeemaker for a complete brew cycle to flush out the remaining cleaning solution.
  8. Wash the Reservoir, Basket, and Carafe as instructed in "Cleaning Your Coffeemaker." Return the Coffeemaker to the Mounting Brackets.

Removing the Door

  1. To remove the door for cleaning or convenience, open the door, position it at a 90° angle, and pull it straight up.
  2. To replace the door, align the spindles on the door with the hinges on the unit. Slip the door into the hinges and close.

Removing the Coffeemaker Unit

  1. To remove the unit from its mounting (for service or cleaning), first remove the Carafe. Slide your hand under the Coffeemaker to support the unit. Push up at the bottom rear to release the unit and slide it forward on its Track Guides.
  2. To replace the unit in its mounting, slide the Coffeemaker along its Track Guides all the way back until it locks into place.

Electrical Cord

The cord length of this Coffeemaker was selected to reduce safety hazards that may occur with a longer cord. If more cord length is needed, an extension with a polarized plug may be used. It should be rated not less than 10 amperes, 120 Volts, and have Underwriters Laboratories, CSA, or NOM listing. To store the cord, coil it within the storage box at the rear of the Coffeemaker. ?
