Benefits
- Helps control RH in the home during periods when the air conditioning system does not run long enough to remove sufficient moisture. If air conditioner can satisfy RH requirements, the Aprilaire unit's compressor shuts off.
- Optimize energy savings by locking out ventilation during hottest/coldest times of the day.
- Improves indoor air quality.
- Installation labor reduced, requires only a power outlet and 24 volt wiring to HVAC system.
Compliance with Ventilation Standards
When properly installed and set, the Aprilaire Ventilating Dehumidifier will meet the mechanical ventilation requirements of:
- ASHRAE 62.2
- Energy Star Certified Homes
- EPA Indoor airPLUS
- International Residential Code (IRC)

Ducting the Ventilating Dehumidifier
Attic Installation
This diagram illustrates an attic installation. The Aprilaire Ventilating Dehumidifier (Dehum W/Ventilator) is connected to the HVAC system via a return mixing box. Fresh air is drawn from outside through a fresh air intake duct connected to an intake hood with a screen, typically mounted on a gable end wall, band joist, or porch soffit. Airflow is shown entering the unit and then being distributed.
Basement Installation
This diagram shows a basement installation. Fresh air is pulled from outside through a duct and intake hood, then mixed with return air from the HVAC system before entering the main unit. The unit is connected to the HVAC system, with a minimum of 6 feet of ducting for the fresh air intake.
