Ducting the Ventilating Dehumidifier
Attic Installation
The attic installation diagram illustrates a fresh air intake hood with a screen (model 90-2065) mounted on an exterior wall. A fresh air intake duct connects this to the AprilAire Dehumidifier with Ventilator. The unit then connects to a filter, a return mixing box, and finally the furnace or air handler, showing the airflow path.
Basement Installation
The basement installation diagram shows fresh air being drawn from outside through an intake hood and ducted to the AprilAire unit. The unit's output is connected to the HVAC/Furnace system. A minimum 6-foot duct length is recommended for the connection.
Benefits
- Helps control relative humidity (RH) in the home during periods when the air conditioning system does not run long enough to remove sufficient moisture. If the air conditioner satisfies RH requirements, the AprilAire unit's compressor shuts off.
- Optimizes energy savings by locking out ventilation during the hottest/coldest times of the day.
- Improves indoor air quality.
- Installation labor is reduced, requiring only a power outlet and 24-volt wiring to the HVAC system.
Compliance
When properly installed and set, the AprilAire Ventilating Dehumidifier will meet the mechanical ventilation requirements of:
- ASHRAE 62.2
- Energy Star Certified Homes
- EPA Indoor airPLUS
- International Residential Code (IRC)
