SuperFish Artemia Breeding Kit
A guide to setting up and using the SuperFish Artemia Breeding Kit for hatching brine shrimp.
Requirements
To use the Artemia Breeding Kit, you will need:
- Brine shrimp eggs
- A clean PET bottle
- Water
- Marine salt
- An air pump
The kit is also available in German (Artemia Zucht-set), French (Kit d'élevage d'Artemia), and Dutch (Artemia Kweekset).
Installation and Setup
-
Prepare the PET bottle.
Take a clean PET bottle. The diagram shows a 1.5 L bottle. Ensure the bottle is clean.
Dimensions for attachments:
- Main attachment: 3 cm
- Smaller tubes (a, b, c): 4 cm
- Hole for tube a: 10 mm
- Hole for tubes b and c: 8 mm
- Distance for tubes b and c: 3-4 mm
- Distance for tube a: 5-6 mm
-
Assemble the kit components.
Attach the various parts of the breeding kit to the PET bottle as shown in the diagrams. This involves inserting tubes (a, b, c) into pre-drilled holes in the bottle cap and base.
Note: Ensure tubes are securely fitted. Some parts may require closing or opening specific valves as indicated by text like "Close Schließen Fermer Sluiten" or "Open Öffnen Ouvrir Open".
Preparation and Incubation
-
Add water and salt.
Fill the bottle with 1200 ml of water (H2O). Add 10 g of marine salt (Marine salt / Aquariumsalz / Sel marin / Aquariumzout).
-
Add brine shrimp eggs.
Add 1 x measure of brine shrimp eggs (Artemia cysts).
-
Connect the air pump.
Connect the air pump (Air pump / Luftpumpe / Pompe a air / Luchtpomp) to the designated tube.
-
Incubate.
Allow the mixture to incubate for 24 hours at a temperature of 25-28°C.
Collection
-
Prepare for collection.
The collection process involves several steps, indicated by numbers 9 through 13. This includes rotating the bottle (step 9) and opening/closing valves (steps 10 and 12) to separate the hatched brine shrimp.
-
Collect the brine shrimp.
Use the provided pipette (step 13) to collect the hatched brine shrimp from the water.
Feeding and Conservation
-
Feed your fish.
The hatched brine shrimp can be used to feed fish, as shown in step 14.
-
Store unused brine shrimp.
Unused hatched brine shrimp can be stored in small containers (step 15) in the refrigerator at 4-7°C for up to 48 hours.
