Worktop Preparation
Cutting the Worktop
It is important to saw the worktop straight. If uncertain, contact your local specialized dealer.
If the worktop needs to be cut, use contact adhesive to fix the edgeband to the cut end. Ensure the edgeband is applied neatly.
Step 1: Apply contact adhesive to the edgeband and the cut edge of the worktop. Press the edgeband firmly onto the cut edge. The diagram shows applying adhesive and pressing the edgeband.
Step 2: Use a saw to cut the worktop to the desired length, ensuring a straight cut. The diagram shows cutting with a circular saw.
Step 3: After cutting, apply contact adhesive to the cut edge and attach the edgeband. Ensure it is smooth and flush with the worktop surface. The diagram shows applying adhesive and pressing the edgeband.
Step 4: Trim any excess edgeband material using scissors or a utility knife. The diagram shows trimming excess edgeband.
Step 5: Sand the edgeband smooth for a clean finish. The diagram shows sanding the edge.
Cutting for Sinks or Cooktops
For installing sinks or cooktops, precise cutouts are necessary. Follow the provided templates or measurements.
Step 1: Measure and mark the cutout area on the worktop, typically 10 cm (3 7/8") from edges. The diagram shows marking the cutout area.
Step 2: Use appropriate tools (like a jigsaw or circular saw) to cut out the marked area. Ensure the cut is clean and precise. The diagram shows cutting out the opening.
Step 3: If installing a sink, use the provided brackets and screws (8x) to secure it from underneath. The diagram shows attaching brackets with 8 screws, 10mm depth.
Installation onto Cabinets
This section details attaching the MÖCKLERYD worktop to IKEA kitchen cabinets.
Joining Multiple Worktops
If joining two worktops to create a longer surface, ensure they are aligned correctly.
Step 1: Position the worktops edge-to-edge. Drill pilot holes through the underside of the top worktop into the edge of the lower worktop. Use a drill bit of Ø 3 mm (1/8") at a depth of 10 mm (3/8"). This is typically done 12x or 20x depending on the join configuration. The diagram shows drilling pilot holes.
Step 2: Secure the worktops together using screws (e.g., 5x, 6x, 3x depending on the step shown in diagrams). The diagram shows securing worktops with screws.
Attaching Worktop to Cabinets
Step 1: Place the assembled worktop onto the kitchen cabinets. The diagram shows placing the worktop on cabinets.
Step 2: From underneath the cabinet shelves or supports, drive screws upwards into the underside of the worktop to secure it. Use appropriate screws (e.g., 6x, 12x, 20x as indicated in diagrams) at the specified locations. The diagram shows securing the worktop from below with screws.
Step 3: Ensure the worktop is level and securely fastened to all cabinet units.
Final Steps and Protection
Silicone Application
Apply silicone sealant along the edges where the worktop meets cabinets or walls to prevent liquids from penetrating and causing damage. Diagrams show applying silicone sealant to edges and underside.
Note: Silicone sealant is not included and must be purchased separately.
Diffusion Barrier
For added protection against condensation and moisture, fit a diffusion barrier (e.g., a protective film) on the underside of the worktop, especially above white goods (appliances like refrigerators, dishwashers). The diagram shows fitting a diffusion barrier.
Appliance Installation (FENSJÖ/FIXA)
The FENSJÖ/FIXA system is shown for installing appliances such as cooktops and dishwashers into the kitchen cabinets. Follow specific instructions for these components. Diagrams show appliance installation into cabinets.
