METOD/METOD Kitchen System Installation Guide
For Installers and Customers Performing Their Own Installation
Important Information for Installers
Please ensure this document is provided to the installer. When installing, refer to both the assembly instructions included with the product and this guide. For any questions, please consult the kitchen sales staff.
Wall and Floor Mounting
METOD/METOD kitchen cabinet frames require secure mounting. For wall-mounted installations, fix the cabinets to the wall. For island configurations, secure them to the floor. Ensure you select appropriate fixings for your specific wall and floor materials. Wall mounting may require drilling into studs; consult a professional if unsure.
Customer Provided Items
Customers will need to provide screws for wall and floor mounting. Recommended screw length for wall mounting is approximately 55-60mm, depending on the substrate. For attaching worktops to 37.6cm deep wall cabinets, screws of approximately 35mm are needed. For attaching filler panels to the underside of wall cabinets, use screws of approximately 25-35mm square timber or 3mm x 35mm screws. KASKER/KASKER quartz engineered stone worktops require adhesive fixing; use the specified sealant and adhesive.
Cabinet, Door, Drawer Front, and Cover Panel Sizes
METOD/METOD Cabinets: Depth (excluding doors) is approximately 376mm for wall cabinets and 415mm or 600mm for base cabinets. Widths vary by cabinet type. Door, drawer front, and cover panel thicknesses vary by material and finish. Cover panels are available in sizes W390xH860, W390xH840, W390xH800, W630xH800, and W630xH2200. These may require on-site cutting. For island kitchens, measure the distance from the floor to the countertop and cut two panels from the H2200 size.
Cutting and Drilling Requirements
Cutting: Worktop width and depth, cover panels, and filler panels may require cutting. For RINGHULT panels, use masking tape to prevent damage. For 3cm legs, the corner notch should be cut at a 45° angle. If it interferes with the leg, either cut it out or place it between the leg base plate and the cabinet.
Drilling: Holes are needed for handles, sink/hob/tap installations, and for water supply/drainage pipes or gas/IH connections in cabinet bases or back panels. For KASKER/KASKER quartz engineered stone worktops with UTBY/UTBY legs, the pre-drilled holes for the leg base plates (Ø6.5mm) may need to be enlarged on-site. KASKER/KASKER quartz engineered stone worktops cannot be cut, drilled, or polished on-site.
Cabinets, Legs, Doors, Cover Panels, and Roller Shutter Cabinets
METOD/METOD Legs: While global assembly instructions may suggest centering legs for connected cabinets, IKEA recommends using four legs per cabinet for increased load capacity and easier leveling. Cabinets 15cm wide require two legs. Corner cabinets require nine legs.
CAPITA/CAPITA Legs: Similar to METOD/METOD legs, use four legs per cabinet. For 15cm wide cabinets, mounting plates cannot be placed side-by-side; center the legs or offset the plates. Do not use on floors with underfloor heating.
3cm Legs: Attach the kickplate to the cabinet base with screws before fixing the cabinet to the wall. This may involve pre-cut notches.
Equipment
SÅGHAJ/SÅGHAJ W45 Dishwasher: Refer to page 19 for installation instructions.
Worktops, Sinks, and Taps
Sink Installation: For sinks, use the provided ME reinforced T-rail instead of the standard metal upper crossbar on the cabinet. For high-pressure cleaning of drainage pipes, ensure compliance with building regulations or consult a professional. Custom-made sink traps for stainless steel and quartz engineered stone worktops may require hose replacement with a straight pipe for high-pressure cleaning; consult a plumber.
Tap Installation: Ensure the worktop thickness is compatible with the tap. If not, the underside of the worktop may need to be trimmed using a chisel or drill. Refer to the tap's user manual.
KARLBY/KARLBY, SKOGSÅ/SKOGSÅ, PINNARP/PINNARP, HOLMARED/HOLMARED Worktops: These veneered worktops are pre-treated with hard wax oil. Reapply STOCKARYD/STOCKARYD treatment oil if the surface shows wear or loses water repellency, or if cut edges have been sanded.
Care: Reapply oil every 3-5 months to maintain durability, especially in areas around sinks and hobs. Used cloths and brushes should be washed and kept wet to prevent spontaneous combustion. Natural wood may warp or crack over time.
Other Oils/Finishes: If using alternative oils or finishes, consult the product's instructions and ensure they are suitable for wood. Sand the existing hard wax oil finish before applying new treatments.
KASKER/KASKER Quartz Engineered Stone Worktop
Worktops and cabinets are fixed with adhesive. Use the specified sealant and adhesive. Recommended adhesives include Tilement Silicone Sealant Arc Seal S-100J (for cabinets/sinks) and SikaFlex 221 (for waterfall edges).
Sink Installation: Follow the diagrams and assembly instructions for sink placement. For over-sinks, if the mounting hardware doesn't fit, secure filler pieces to the underside of the worktop.
Hob and Fish Grille Combination: For hobs with fish grilles, use UTRUSTA/UTRUSTA drawer 15x60, which requires adhesive fixing. Filler pieces for the gap between the hob and worktop are included.
UTBY/UTBY 88 Legs: If using UTBY/UTBY 88 legs, enlarge the pre-drilled holes in the worktop to match the leg base plate diameter (approx. Ø6.5mm).
Waterfall Installation: The waterfall edge is typically fixed to the cabinet side and worktop with adhesive, extending vertically from the floor. Adjust dimensions based on floor unevenness. Ensure the waterfall edge is 3-5mm proud of the worktop edge.
Suspension Rail Mounting for METOD/METOD Cabinets
Use one suspension rail per wall cabinet, high cabinet, and base cabinet. For cabinets wider than 2000mm, join rails end-to-end. Screws for fixing the rail to the wall are not included; use appropriate screws for your wall type. Position the bottom of the suspension rail 60mm below the top edge of the cabinet. Hook the L-brackets onto the suspension rail and secure the cabinet base with the included plastic parts.
For Base Cabinets (Countertop D650): Position the rail 60mm below the cabinet top edge. For RENLIG/RENLIG DW45 dishwashers, refer to page 19.
For Base Cabinets (Countertop D450): The rail is directly screwed to the wall.
Mounting METOD/METOD Cabinets Without Suspension Rails
Refer to page 3 for wall substrate information and appropriate screws (diameter 4-5mm, length 55-60mm). Ensure a 10mm gap between the wall and the cabinet. Secure the cabinet back with the included plastic parts.
Installing Legs on 37.6cm Deep METOD/METOD Cabinets
CAPITA/CAPITA or UTBY/UTBY legs are recommended. For METOD/METOD legs (102.710.29), follow the provided dimensions. Cut the indicated part of the leg. Use 4mm x 15mm screws (not included) to fix the leg to the cabinet.
Water Supply and Drainage Pipe Floor Outlet Positions
Water and Drainage: Drainage pipes are typically VU or VP pipes (Ø50) and should extend 150mm from the floor. Avoid placing storage units that might obstruct the drainage pipe outlet. Diagrams show typical positions for 650mm deep countertops. Adjust sink placement for different countertop depths.
Floor Outlet Positions: For stop plug outlets, position at FL+250mm. For straight stop valves, position at FL+500mm (for 870mm high kitchens) or FL+550mm (for 920mm high kitchens).
Wall Outlet Positions: For wall outlets, position at FL+570mm (for 870mm high kitchens) or FL+620mm (for 920mm high kitchens). Ensure the stop plug extends at least 50mm from the wall.
Hand Shower Taps: If using a hand shower tap, choose a stop valve with a handle that doesn't interfere with the shower hose, or position the handle carefully to avoid hose kinking.
Note: The 100mm dimension for rear or wall outlets refers to pipework, not faucet hole placement on the countertop.
Sink Dimensions and Cutout Positions: Various IKEA sinks (TISJÖN, BOHOLMEN, FYNDIG, KILSVIKEN, HAVSEN, LÅNGUDDEN, VATTUDALEN, OLOFSJÖN, VRESJÖN, HILLESJÖN, TALLSJÖN) are detailed with their dimensions and recommended cutout positions for different countertop materials (melamine, solid wood).
