Mounting / Operating

Mounting

  1. Adjust the angle of the mounting bracket so that the solar panel faces the sun. Generally, in the Northern Hemisphere, this means the panel faces south. The ideal orientation depends on the specific site location. The mounting bracket is adjustable to 30, 60, and 90 degrees.
  2. Attach the solar panel to a tree with the included 1.7m strap.

NOTE: The side of the panel that connects with the power cable must face down to prevent water ingress from rain.

Connecting

Plug one end of the power cable into the output socket (on the right side of the solar panel), and plug the other end into your Tactacam Reveal trail camera. If the internal lithium battery is charged, the camera will be immediately powered.

ATTENTION:

If this solar panel is connected to a Tactacam Reveal camera, it is strongly recommended that batteries be installed in the camera even when connected to the solar charger. Otherwise, the camera may stop operating due to a power shortage. During intensive use of the camera, the solar charger may not charge the camera fast enough, necessitating backup AA batteries or a Reveal Lithium Cartridge.

The solar panel should NEVER be used in a parallel connection with any other power sources. Tactacam is not liable for any damage resulting from incorrect use.

Charging

It is important to completely charge the solar panel for at least 4 hours using the included USB-C charging cable before operating. The charging indicators will illuminate as it charges. Green flashing lights indicate the solar panel is actively charging. When all four lights turn solid green, the solar panel is fully charged.

NOTE: Fully charge the battery at least once every 3 months to optimize battery life and performance.

Precautions

  1. Do not scratch the surface of the solar panel.
  2. Use the provided cable for charging. Do not use a low-quality or incompatible charging cable or wall charger/adapter, as this could damage the solar panel.
  3. If a short circuit protection event occurs, unplug the solar panel and place it in sunlight for 10 seconds. It should then resume normal operation. Alternatively, use the AC adapter to charge and activate the solar panel.
  4. Clean the solar panel with a damp soft cloth only. Do not use volatile liquids such as solvents, cleaning fluids, or strong detergents.
  5. Do not drop the solar panel.
  6. Do not attempt to disassemble or open the solar panel, as this could cause serious damage and void the warranty.
  7. Do not expose the solar panel to extreme heat, such as leaving it on a car dashboard in hot weather.
  8. Keep the solar panel away from fire.
  9. When not in use, disconnect the solar panel from power sources.
