Quick Start Guide

Setting Up Your Account

If this is your first Reveal camera activation, visit the Reveal Web Portal at https://account.revealcellcam.com/activation to set up your account. You can also access the Web Portal directly from the app by clicking 'My Reveal' on the account page. If you already have a Reveal account with active cameras, log in to your app and add your camera following the instructions on page 8.

Downloading the App

Download the Tactacam Reveal app from your Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Sign in using the same email and password created on the website: https://account.revealcellcam.com.

Add Camera to the App

  1. Navigate to your Reveal app and log in using your account credentials. Click the home icon.
  2. Click the camera icon at the top.
  3. From the camera page, click the '+' icon in the bottom right-hand corner.
  4. Select 'Reveal X-Pro' and continue.
  5. Follow the in-app prompts to activate your Reveal. Ensure the SIM selected (Verizon or AT&T) matches the SIM card already inserted in the camera.
  6. The app will prompt you to scan the QR code located on the camera's display screen.

Sending a Test Picture

1. Allow the camera to connect to a 4G signal. Your signal strength will be displayed on the screen.

  • After activation, the signal status indicator will search for and then display the signal strength.
  • Once connected, press the power/enter button to send a photograph.

When your test picture is sent successfully, a confirmation message will appear on the screen. If it fails, a send failure message will display.

2. Ensure your phone has a signal. A motion-detected picture should be sent to your phone via the app, which may take a few minutes.

Leaving Your Camera in the Field

Best Practices

Proper Camera Placement

  1. Location and placement are critical for best camera performance.
  2. Avoid hanging the camera on small trees that are prone to moving with the wind.
  3. Place the camera about waist height on the tree or post.
  4. Point the camera down about 7 to 15 degrees. Using shims can help achieve the desired angle.
  5. For best lighting conditions, face your camera north. Always avoid facing your camera directly toward the sun.
  6. If the camera is placed too high on a tree and angled down, the field of view becomes smaller. This is only advisable if you plan to monitor a bait station or scrape.
  7. On a food plot: Camera height and angle are critical for the widest field of view. Do not place the camera too high.
  8. On a trail: For the best view, position your camera at an angle looking up or down the trail, rather than perpendicular to it.

Batteries and Cellular Trail Camera Performance

  1. Use the recommended batteries for the Reveal:
    • Energizer Lithium batteries
    • Duracell Max Alkaline batteries
    • Rayovac UltraPro Alkaline batteries
  2. In cold weather, use lithium-ion batteries for best camera speed and performance.
  3. Expected picture count with proper batteries (in temperatures above freezing) are:
    • Lithium: 4,000+ pictures
    • Alkaline: 2,500+ pictures
  4. If connecting the Tactacam External Solar Panel (sold separately), lithium batteries will act as a backup power source.

Troubleshooting

Camera Sends Pictures of Nothing

Motion sensors (PIR sensors) detect heat and motion. On hot or windy days, false triggers can occur. Objects other than people and animals, such as vegetation and precipitation, can also act as moving targets.

  1. Clear any low-hanging tree branches, brush, and weeds from the camera's field of view (5-10 yards in front).
  2. Motion sensitivity recommendations: Set sensitivity to 'High' to start. Decrease sensitivity if you are getting too many false triggers (9 is highest, 1 is lowest).

Night Vision Flash Range Doesn't Meet Expectations

  1. Ensure batteries are fully charged.
  2. The 'Max Range' setting offers better IR flash range. Adjust 'Night Mode' to 'Max Range' for improved night vision flash range.
  3. High-quality 1.2V NiMH rechargeable AA batteries can also improve IR flash range. For cold weather use, lithium batteries are recommended for consistent results.
  4. Surroundings like trees, walls, or the ground within the flash range can help create better night images. To improve night images, avoid aiming the camera into an open field where there is nothing to reflect the IR flash back.

To Help Prevent Theft or Damage

Use a protective security box, such as the one listed at www.revealcellcam.com ?

Camera Stops Taking Images or Won't Take Images

  1. Ensure the SD card is not full. If the SD card is full, the camera will stop taking images. Enabling 'SD Loop' will cause the SD card to overwrite older images, preventing this issue.
  2. Verify that alkaline or NiMH-AA batteries have sufficient power for the camera to operate.
  3. Format the SD card with the camera before first use or when the camera stops taking images.

Internal Condensation on Lens

The Reveal is IP66 rated waterproof, meaning it is resistant to powerful jets of water. Condensation inside or behind the lens can occur if the antenna is not screwed in completely, or if there is dirt or debris on the seal. To alleviate this issue:

  • Pull the SD card out and let the camera sit open in an area with circulating air (e.g., near a fan or vent) for 3-4 days.
  • Alternatively, place the camera in a sealed container with rice for 24 hours to absorb moisture.
  • Clean the seal thoroughly and tighten the antenna.
  • Place the camera back in the field.

If the Camera Has Accidentally Been Submerged in Water

  1. Do not open the camera immediately.
  2. Dry the outer housing of the camera to prevent water from entering the interior and causing damage.
