Vehicle Evacuation and Towing

Tow Points

The vehicle is equipped with tow points located in the front and rear. These are intended solely for road towing and evacuation. Using them for any other purpose may result in vehicle damage or serious injury.

Important: Before driving off-road, remove the front and rear tow point covers to prevent damage or loss. Replace the covers before driving on the road. The tow points are located behind removable covers.

Front Tow Point Access

  1. To detach the front cover, turn each retainer 90 degrees counter-clockwise with a coin or similar object.
  2. To remove the cover, lower the top edge and pull the cover forward.
  3. When installing, ensure the two tabs on the lower edge align with the body panel openings, then secure the cover by turning the retainers 90 degrees clockwise.

Rear Tow Point Access

  1. To detach the rear cover, turn each retainer 90 degrees counter-clockwise with a coin or similar object to release the lower edge.
  2. Rotate the panel to release the upper hooks and remove the cover.
  3. For vehicles equipped with an electric tow bar, the tow point is located in the toolkit in the luggage compartment floor.
  4. Screw the tow point into its designated mounting until fully engaged, turning it counter-clockwise. Use the jack lever to apply additional torque to the tow point.
  5. When installing the rear cover, ensure the four hooks on the upper edge engage with the body panel. Secure the cover by turning the retainers 90 degrees clockwise.

The rear tow point can be used for towing other vehicles if necessary.

Disabling the Parking Pawl

When evacuating the vehicle, it is necessary to engage the parking pawl disengagement mechanism. This will lock the transmission in neutral (N) and prevent the automatic engagement of Park (P). The mechanism is operated by a lever located under the center console cup holders.

Caution: Before activating the parking pawl disengagement mechanism, select Park (P), engage the electric parking brake (EPB), and switch off the ignition.

Accessing the Mechanism

  1. Open the center console cup holder cover and remove the cup holder inserts.
  2. Use a flathead screwdriver or similar tool to remove the cover.

Engaging the Mechanism

  1. Turn the locking device 90 degrees counter-clockwise.
  2. Press the brake pedal.
  3. Pull the strap to raise the parking pawl disengagement mechanism and lock it in the vertical position.

When the parking pawl disengagement mechanism is activated, the gear selector will remain in Park (P), but the selector indicator and the instrument cluster indicator will display a flashing 'N'.

Re-engaging the Parking Pawl

After completing the transport, the parking pawl disengagement mechanism must be deactivated. To deactivate it, follow these steps:

  1. Using a flathead screwdriver or similar tool, release the clip (indicated by the arrow).
  2. Return the parking pawl disengagement mechanism to the horizontal (folded) position.
  3. Turn the locking mechanism 90 degrees clockwise.

Once the parking pawl disengagement mechanism is deactivated, reinstall the cover and cup holder inserts.

Steering Column Lock Release

To keep the steering column unlocked during vehicle evacuation, the electronic key must be inside the vehicle, and the ignition must be switched on.

Off-Road Evacuation

If using the tow points for off-road evacuation, it is recommended to complete an off-road recovery training course. Additional information on off-road driving can be found at: https://www.landroverexperience.com.

Vehicle Transportation

Vehicle evacuation or transportation should be performed using a specially designed trailer. Always use qualified specialists for towing and securing the vehicle.

WARNING: Exercise extreme caution when transporting or towing the vehicle. Serious injury or fatality may occur.

Towing with Four Wheels on the Ground

If the electronic systems are functioning, select the appropriate ride height for the air suspension before securing the vehicle to the tow truck or trailer. Refer to Section 164, Ride Height.

Towing is only permitted if all four wheels are off the ground, i.e., on a trailer. In emergencies, if the correct towing method cannot be used, towing on four wheels for a short distance is permissible. Observe the following:

Towing a vehicle for distances over 50 km (30 miles) is prohibited. Do not exceed a speed of 50 km/h (30 mph). Towing for longer distances or at higher speeds may cause serious damage to the transmission.

Towing is not permitted if the transmission is not in neutral (N) or if the electronic rear differential is locked.

To prevent vehicle damage, follow this procedure precisely:

  1. Secure the tow truck's towing attachment to the front tow point of the vehicle being towed. Refer to Section 373, TOW POINTS.
  2. With the electric parking brake (EPB) engaged, switch on the ignition and ensure the steering column lock is disengaged.
  3. Press the brake pedal and shift the selector to neutral (N).
  4. Engage the parking pawl disengagement mechanism.
  5. Leave the electronic key in a secure location within the vehicle.
  6. Before starting to tow, disengage the electric parking brake (EPB).

Ignition left on for extended periods will discharge the battery.

After Towing with Four Wheels on the Ground

  1. Engage the electric parking brake (EPB).
  2. Switch on the ignition and press the brake pedal.
  3. Shift the selector to Park (P).
  4. Disengage the parking pawl disengagement mechanism.
  5. Switch off the ignition and remove the electronic key from the vehicle.
  6. Disconnect the tow truck's towing attachments from the front tow point and reinstall the cover.

Caution: Exercise extreme caution when disconnecting towing equipment. The vehicle may roll if on an incline, which could lead to serious injury.
