Vehicle Towing and Evacuation Procedures

Towing Method

ATTENTION! Entrust the towing or transportation of the vehicle only to specialists with the appropriate qualifications, and verify the correct securing of the vehicle. Failure to do so may result in severe injury or death.

CAUTION! Before towing, the recovery specialist must activate the parking brake disengagement mechanism. Refer to the separate service manual for instructions. Failure to do so may cause severe damage to the gearbox.

CAUTION! This vehicle cannot be towed with all four wheels on the ground or evacuated using a partial lift method. This may cause severe damage to the gearbox. Towing or transportation must be performed using a specially designed towing vehicle or trailer.

Front Towing Eye

ATTENTION! The front towing eye is intended solely for road towing. Use for any other purpose may result in vehicle damage and severe injury.

CAUTION! Before driving off-road, remove the front towing eye cover to prevent damage or loss. Reinstall the cover before driving on the road.

CAUTION! Before driving, ensure the cover is properly installed. Improper installation may lead to cover damage or detachment.

NOTES

Before removing the cover, note its original position.

The front towing eye mounting point is located at the lower part of the front bumper and is covered by a removable panel.

For all vehicles except SVR:

To remove the cover:

  1. Turn all four fasteners 90 degrees counter-clockwise using a coin or similar object to release the lower edge.
  2. To remove the cover, pull the rear edge down and rotate the front edge up.

To install the cover:

  1. Position the upper central protrusion into the bumper cover.
  2. Secure the two upper outer protrusions into the bumper cover.
  3. Rotate the lower edge of the cover and secure with the four fasteners. Turn the fasteners 90 degrees clockwise.

Rear Towing Eye

ATTENTION! The rear towing eye is intended solely for road towing. Use for any other purpose may result in vehicle damage and severe injury.

ATTENTION! Do not use the ball joint for vehicle evacuation. This may lead to severe injury or death.

CAUTION! Before driving off-road, remove the rear towing eye cover to prevent damage or loss. Reinstall the cover before driving on the road.

NOTES

The rear towing eye can be used to tow another vehicle if necessary.

Before removing the cover, note its installation position.

For vehicles with a fixed ball joint:

For vehicles without a fixed ball joint: the towing eye is stored in the tool kit located under the luggage compartment floor panel. Screw the towing eye into its mounting point until fully seated, turning counter-clockwise.

For all vehicles except SVR:

To remove the cover:

  1. Turn each of the two fasteners 90 degrees counter-clockwise using a coin or similar object to release the lower edge.
  2. Pull the lower edge back to detach the central protrusion (if present).
  3. Detach the six upper clips.

To install the cover:

  1. Position the six upper clips correctly.
  2. Rotate the lower edge of the cover into the correct position and align the two side pins.
  3. If present: insert the central protrusion into the bumper trim.
  4. Position the two outer protrusions correctly.
  5. Turn the 2 fasteners 90 degrees clockwise.

For SVR vehicles:

NOTES

For SVR vehicles, two covers must be removed to access the towing eye.

Disengaging the Gear Selector from Park

ATTENTION! Ensure the vehicle is secured with wheel chocks. Engage the electric parking brake (EPB) or firmly press the brake pedal. This procedure requires two people. Failure to comply may lead to unexpected vehicle movement, resulting in severe injury or death.

CAUTION! Before towing, the recovery specialist must activate the parking brake disengagement mechanism. Refer to the separate service manual for instructions. Failure to do so may cause severe damage to the gearbox. Activating the parking brake disengagement mechanism shifts the gearbox to neutral (N) and prevents automatic engagement of park (P).

After towing, always disengage the parking brake mechanism.

Steering Column Unlock

CAUTION! To keep the steering column unlocked during vehicle evacuation, leave the electronic key inside the vehicle and turn on the ignition. Failure to do so may result in vehicle damage.

Off-Road Vehicle Evacuation

If towing eyes are to be used for off-road evacuation, a course on off-road vehicle evacuation techniques must be completed. Additional information on off-road driving is available at www.landrover.com.

Vehicle Transportation

ATTENTION! Exercise extreme caution when transporting or towing the vehicle. Severe injury or fatality may occur.

CAUTION! If the vehicle's electronic systems are operational, select the correct ride height for the air suspension before securing the vehicle to the towing vehicle or trailer. Failure to do so may result in vehicle damage.

Vehicle evacuation or transportation must be performed using a specially designed trailer.

For evacuation and proper securing of the vehicle, always use the services of qualified specialists.

Towing a Vehicle with All Four Wheels on the Ground

ATTENTION! Before towing, the recovery specialist MUST engage the parking brake disengagement mechanism. Refer to the separate service manual for instructions.

ATTENTION! If the engine cannot be started during towing, the brake booster will not function. Reduced assistance will require more effort for braking, significantly increasing the braking distance.

ATTENTION! If the battery is to be disconnected, the steering column must be unlocked first. The steering column cannot be unlocked if the battery is disconnected. If the steering column is locked during towing, it may lead to severe injury or death.

ATTENTION! Before evacuation, always ensure the steering column is unlocked. Failure to do so may lead to severe injury or death.

CAUTION! Tow the vehicle only in the forward direction with all four wheels on the ground. Towing in reverse with only two wheels on the ground will cause severe damage to the gearbox.

CAUTION! Towing the vehicle for distances exceeding 50 km (30 miles) is prohibited. Do not exceed a speed of 50 km/h (30 mph). Exceeding this distance or speed may cause severe damage to the gearbox.

CAUTION! Do not tow the vehicle if the gearbox is not in neutral (N) or if the electronic rear differential is locked. This may cause vehicle damage.

Vehicle evacuation is only permitted if all four wheels are off the ground, i.e., on a trailer. In cases where evacuation by trailer is not possible, towing the vehicle on all four wheels for a short distance is permissible in emergencies. Follow these instructions:

To prevent vehicle damage, follow this procedure precisely:

  1. Secure the towing equipment of the recovery vehicle to the front towing eye of the vehicle being recovered. See FRONT TOWING EYE.
  2. With the electric parking brake (EPB) engaged, turn on the ignition. Ensure the steering column lock is disengaged.
  3. Press the brake pedal and shift the selector to neutral (N).
  4. Activate the parking brake disengagement mechanism.
  5. Leave the electronic key in a secure location within the vehicle.
  6. Before towing, disengage the EPB.

CAUTION! Leaving the ignition on for extended periods will discharge the battery.

After Towing with All Four Wheels on the Ground

  1. Engage the electric parking brake (EPB).
  2. Turn on the ignition and press the brake pedal.
  3. Shift the selector to park (P).
  4. Disengage the parking brake mechanism.
  5. Turn off the ignition and remove the electronic key from the vehicle.
  6. Disconnect the towing equipment from the front towing eye. Reinstall the cover.

ATTENTION! Exercise extreme caution when disconnecting towing equipment. The vehicle may roll if on an incline, which could lead to severe injury or death.
