Vehicle Evacuation and Identification

Towing Eyes

Towing eyes on the front and rear of the vehicle are intended solely for road recovery. Using them for any other purpose may result in damage to the vehicle and serious injury.

Before driving off-road, remove the front and rear towing eye covers to prevent damage or loss.

The front and rear towing points are located behind removable covers.

To detach the front cover:

  1. Rotate each retainer 90 degrees clockwise with a coin (or similar object) to release the front cover.
  2. Lower the top edge and pull the cover forward.

To refit the cover: Ensure the two tabs on the lower edge align with the body panel openings, then secure by rotating the retainers 90 degrees clockwise.

To detach the rear cover: Rotate each retainer 90 degrees counter-clockwise with a coin (or similar object) to release the lower edge.

Rotate the panel to release the upper hooks. Remove the cover.

For vehicles equipped with an electrically operated tow bar, the towing eye is included in the tool kit located under the floor panel in the luggage compartment.

Screw the towing eye into its intended mounting until fully tightened, rotating it counter-clockwise.

When refitting the rear cover, ensure the four hooks on the upper edge of the cover engage with the body panel. Secure the cover by rotating each retainer 90 degrees clockwise.

The rear towing eye mounting point can be used for towing another vehicle if necessary.

Steering Column Lock

For the steering column to remain unlocked during vehicle evacuation, the intelligent key must be in the vehicle and the ignition must be switched on.

Off-Road Evacuation

If you intend to use the towing eyes for off-road recovery, you must complete an off-road recovery training course. For more information on off-road driving training, visit www.landroverexperience.com.

Vehicle Transportation

Vehicle evacuation or transportation should be carried out on a specially designed trailer.

Always use the services of qualified specialists for vehicle evacuation and proper securing.

Important Safety Precautions

Towing with All Four Wheels on the Ground

The vehicle can only be towed with all four wheels off the ground, i.e., by using a recovery truck with a full lift. In an emergency, if full recovery is not possible, the vehicle may be towed for a short distance with all four wheels on the ground. Observe the following instructions:

To prevent vehicle damage, follow the procedure below precisely:

  1. Secure the recovery vehicle's towing attachment to the front towing eye of the vehicle being recovered. Refer to page 289, TOWING EYES.
  2. With the parking brake engaged, switch on the ignition and ensure the steering column lock is disengaged.
  3. Press the brake pedal and move the selector to neutral (N).
  4. Engage the parking brake release function.
  5. Leave the intelligent key in a secure place within the vehicle.
  6. Before towing, disengage the parking brake.

Note: Leaving the ignition on for extended periods will drain the battery.

If the engine cannot be started during towing, the brake booster will not function. This will require more effort for braking, and the braking distance will increase significantly.

If you intend to disconnect the battery, you must first release the steering column lock. The steering column lock cannot be released after the battery is disconnected.

Before towing, always check that the steering column is not locked.

Tow the vehicle only in a forward direction with all four wheels on the ground. Towing in reverse or with a partial lift (two wheels on the ground) can cause serious damage to the transmission.

After Towing with All Four Wheels on the Ground

  1. Apply the vehicle's parking brake.
  2. Switch on the ignition and press the brake pedal.
  3. Move the gear selector to Park (P).
  4. Deactivate the parking brake release function.
  5. Switch off the ignition and remove the intelligent key from the vehicle.
  6. Disconnect the recovery vehicle's towing attachments from the front towing eye and refit the cover.

Caution: Exercise extreme care when disconnecting towing equipment. The vehicle may roll if on a slope, which could lead to serious injury.
