Vgate iCar Pro 2S Quick Start Guide
Your essential guide to setting up and using the Vgate iCar Pro 2S OBD-II adapter with your vehicle.
Vehicle OBDII Compliance
To check if your vehicle is OBDII compliant:
- United States: Model year 1996 or newer (cars and light trucks).
- European Union: Model year 2001 or newer (gasoline vehicles) or 2004 or newer (diesel vehicles).
Look for a "U.S. OBDII Certified" label on your vehicle.
Supported OBDII Protocols
The Vgate iCar Pro 2S supports the following standard OBDII protocols:
- SAE J1850 PWM
- SAE J1850 VPW
- ISO 9141-2
- ISO 14230-4 KWP
- ISO 15765-4 CAN
Recommended OBDII Apps
Vgate recommends the OBD Auto Doctor app for its compatibility and features. The iCar Pro series is well-tested with this application.
Other popular and recommended apps include:
- Torque Lite (popular, free lite version available)
- OBD Auto Doctor (excellent functionality, with an optional in-app Pro upgrade)
- OBD Fusion (a highly-rated third-party application)
QR codes are provided to easily download the OBD Auto Doctor app for both Android and iOS devices.
Installation and Pairing Guide
-
Step 1: Install an OBDII App
Download and install a compatible OBD II application from your device's app store (Apple App Store for iOS, Google Play Store for Android).
-
Step 2: Connect the iCar Pro 2S Adapter
Locate your vehicle's OBDII Diagnostic Link Connector (DLC). It is typically found under the dashboard on the driver's side.
For detailed information on the DLC, please visit: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_link_connector_(automotive)
Plug the Vgate iCar Pro 2S adapter firmly into the DLC port.
-
Step 3: Turn Vehicle Ignition
Turn your vehicle's ignition key to the "Key On, Engine Off" (KOEO) position.
The iCar Pro series features an automatic wake-up function and super power saving. The device enters a low-power sleep mode (consuming approximately 3mA) and wakes up rapidly (in milliseconds) when the ignition is activated, enabling quicker diagnostic operations.
-
Step 4: Pair iCar Pro 2S with Your Device (Using OBD Auto Doctor)
Pairing with iOS Devices:
- Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your iPhone.
- Open the OBD Auto Doctor app.
- Navigate to "Extras" on the Status page.
- Select "Connectivity" from the settings menu.
- Choose "Bluetooth" as the adapter type.
- Select "Vgate" as the device.
- Return to the Status page and tap "Start connect".
- The adapter will initialize and connect to your vehicle. A successful connection is indicated when all LED indicators light up while data is being synced.
Important Note for iOS Users: You may not see the Vgate Bluetooth device name listed in your iPhone's native Bluetooth settings. This is expected behavior. The device name is configured within the OBD app. Simply enable Bluetooth on your iOS device and proceed with the app's connection steps.
For information on iOS-supported Bluetooth profiles, see: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204387
Pairing with Android Devices:
- Enable Bluetooth on your Android phone or tablet.
- In your device's Bluetooth settings, find and select the device named "Android-Vlink". Pair with it using the password "1234".
- Once paired, launch the OBD Auto Doctor app.
- Go to "Extras" on the Status page.
- Select "Connectivity" from the settings menu.
- Choose "Bluetooth" as the adapter type.
- Search for Bluetooth devices and select "Android-Vlink".
- Return to the Status page and tap "Start connect".
- The adapter will initialize and connect to your vehicle. A successful connection is indicated when all LED indicators light up while data is being synced.
Important Note: The specific Bluetooth pairing steps might differ slightly depending on the OBD II app you use. Always follow the instructions provided within the app itself.
Supported Parameters and Sensors
The iCar Pro 2S supports standard OBDII Parameters (PIDs) as defined in SAE J1979 AUG2014, as utilized by the OBD Auto Doctor app. The availability of specific parameters is dependent on your vehicle's equipped sensors.

Understanding OBD Codes
OBD codes, or Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), help identify vehicle issues.
Example: P0123
- P: Powertrain (Engine & Transmission/Gearbox)
- 0: Generic OBD Code
- 1: Fuel & Air Metering
- 2 & 3: Fault Description: Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) / Switch A Circuit High Input. This code is triggered when the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) detects a voltage signal that exceeds the normal upper limit for this circuit.
You can find detailed explanations of OBD codes and their potential causes by searching online.

Troubleshooting
Issue: No LED lights are illuminated on the adapter.
- Verify that your vehicle's fuses are intact and not blown.
- Ensure the adapter is correctly seated in the DLC port. Try removing and re-inserting it.
