Vgate iCar2 BT3.0 Quick Start Guide

Your essential companion for vehicle diagnostics.

About Vgate iCar2 BT3.0

The Vgate iCar2 BT3.0 is a compact and powerful Bluetooth OBDII scanner designed to help you understand your vehicle's performance and diagnose issues.

Getting Started

1. Vehicle OBDII Compliance

To check if your vehicle is OBDII compliant:

  • Vehicles model year 1996 or newer sold in the United States.
  • Vehicles model year 2001 or newer (gasoline) or 2004 or newer (diesel) sold in the European Union.

Look for the "OBD II CERTIFIED" label on your vehicle.

2. Supported OBDII Protocols

The Vgate iCar2 BT3.0 supports the following OBDII protocols:

  • ISO 14230-4 KWP
  • SAE J1850 PWM
  • SAE J1850 VPW
  • ISO 15765-4 CAN
  • ISO 9141-2

The actual list of available parameters is vehicle-specific and depends on the sensors your vehicle is equipped with. For more details on supported parameters, refer to OBD Auto Doctor parameters.

Supported Parameters (Not a full list):

PID Parameter Name
$01 Calculated load value
$02 Fuel system status
$03 Calculated load value
$04 Monitor status since DTCs Cleared
$05 Engine coolant temperature
$06, $08 Short term fuel trim
$07, $09 Long term fuel trim
$10 Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor data
$11 Absolute throttle position
$0A Fuel pressure
$0C Engine RPM
$0D Vehicle speed sensor
$0E Ignition timing advance for #1 Cylinder
$0F Intake air temperature

3. Recommended Apps

The iCar2 BT3.0 works well with various OBD applications. We recommend:

  • OBD AUTO DOCTOR: Excellent free app with in-app upgrade to Pro. Scan the QR code [QR Code] to get the free version.
  • Torque Lite: A popular choice, with a free lite version available.
  • OBD Fusion: Another excellent third-party app.

4. Installation and Connection

  1. Plug into DLC: Locate your vehicle's OBDII Diagnostic Link Connector (DLC), usually under the dashboard on the driver's side. Plug the iCar2 BT3.0 adapter into the port.
  2. Power Saving: The iCar2 BT3.0 features power-saving technology and will enter sleep mode after 30 minutes of engine off to protect your vehicle's battery. Press the wake-up button [Wake up Button] to restart it without removing it from the DLC port.
  3. Install App: Download and install your chosen OBD app on your smartphone or tablet.
  4. Pairing:
    • Enable Bluetooth on your device.
    • Turn on Bluetooth and make it visible.
    • Select "V-LINK" as the Bluetooth device to pair. Enter the password "1234".
    • Once paired, configure the connectivity settings in the OBD Auto Doctor app: select Bluetooth as the adapter type and "V-LINK" as the device name.
  5. Connect to Vehicle:
    • Run the OBD Auto Doctor app.
    • Tap the "Extras" button, then "Connectivity" in the settings menu.
    • Select "Bluetooth" as the connection type.
    • Select "V-LINK" as the device name.
    • Go back to the Status page and tap the connect button [Connect Button].
    • The adapter will initialize and connect to the vehicle. The GREEN Bluetooth indicator and BLUE OBD indicator will blink during connection (approx. 30 seconds).
    • Once connected, all LED indicators will light up, and data will sync from the vehicle.

5. Understanding OBD Codes

OBDII Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) help identify vehicle issues. Codes are typically structured as follows:

  • First Character: Indicates the system (e.g., P for Powertrain, B for Body, C for Chassis, U for Network).
  • Second Character: Indicates the code type (0 for Generic, 1 for Manufacturer-Specific).
  • Third Character: Indicates the subsystem (e.g., Fuel & Air Metering, Ignition System, Transmission).
  • Fourth and Fifth Characters: Specific fault details.

Example: P0123

  • P: Powertrain
  • 0: Generic OBD Code
  • 123: Throttle Position Sensor/Switch A Circuit High Input

A P0123 code means the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) has detected a voltage reading from the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) that is higher than the normal upper limit. For detailed explanations and possible causes, visit OBD-Codes.com.

6. Troubleshooting

No LED lighting?

  • Check for blown fuses in the vehicle.
  • Ensure the adapter is properly installed in the DLC port. Remove and reinsert it.
