Introduction
The NUX NSS-4 Pulse is an IR loader pedal featuring built-in Impulse Responses (IRs) for electric guitar, electric bass cabinets, and acoustic guitars. It serves as a practice tool with its headphone output and functions as an audio interface when connected to a PC.
Product Overview and Controls
The NSS-4 Pulse is part of the NUX MINI CORE SERIES. Its front panel features the following controls and connectors:
- LEVEL Knob: Adjusts the output volume.
- SPACE Knob: Controls the room size (reverb). Press and hold this knob to toggle the SPACE function ON/OFF. The LED indicator for this function is Yellow when ON and Red when OFF.
- PHONE Out Jack: Connect headphones for silent practice or monitoring when using the audio interface function.
- IR Selector Knob: Selects the desired IR slot.
- TAP Switch & Indicator:
- Short Press: Toggles the effect ON/OFF. The effect is ON when the associated LED lights up.
- Long Press: Switches between modes:
- EG CAB (Electric Guitar Cabinet): TAP indicator is OFF.
- BS CAB (Bass Cabinet): TAP indicator is Red.
- AG IR (Acoustic Guitar IR): TAP indicator is Blue.
- INPUT Jack (1/4"): Connect your instrument cable. Supports stereo input when configured for stereo mode.
- OUTPUT Jack (1/4"): Connect to your amplifier or the next pedal in your signal chain. Supports stereo output when configured for stereo mode.
- USB-C Port: Used for connecting to a PC for firmware updates and for using the Pulse as an audio interface.
- FOOTSWITCH: Engages or disengages the effect.

The pedal offers a selection of IRs categorized into three modes:
EG CAB (Electric Guitar Cabinet) Mode (TAP Indicator: Off)

BS CAB (Bass Cabinet) Mode (TAP Indicator: Red)
This mode features IRs for various bass guitar cabinets:

- SV810 (Ampeg SV810)
- MKB 410 (Mark Bass 410)
- TRC 410 (Trace Elliot 410)
- SV410 + Tweeter (Ampeg SV410 + Tweeter)
- Bassguy 410 (Fender Bassman 410)
- Eden 410 (EDEN 410)
- SV212 (Ampeg SV212)
AG IR (Acoustic Guitar IR) Mode (TAP Indicator: Blue)
This mode features IRs for acoustic guitars, simulating different pickup types:

- G J15 EG Mag (Gibson J15 for Electric Guitar Magnetic PU)
- M D45 EG Mag (Martin D45 for Electric Guitar Magnetic PU)

Software and Updates
The NUX Pulse Editor Software allows for IR data import/export and USB setting adjustments. Connect the pedal to a PC via USB-C to utilize these features.
- IR Management: Load custom IR files or export existing ones.
- USB Settings: Configure USB audio interface settings.
Firmware Updates: To ensure optimal performance and access to new features, it is recommended to update the pedal's firmware. Download the latest firmware from the NUX Audio website and follow the provided instructions for installation.
Note for Windows Users: For optimal audio performance on Windows PCs, download and install the ASIO driver available on the product page.
Operation Modes
Mono/Stereo Mode Switching:
To switch between mono and stereo input/output modes, press and hold the TAP switch while powering on the pedal. The TAP indicator LED will flash blue for mono mode and red for stereo mode.
Bypass Mode Switching:
To switch between buffer bypass and true bypass modes, press and hold the FOOTSWITCH while powering on the pedal. The LED color change during the power-on sequence indicates the selected mode: Green for buffer bypass, Red for true bypass. Note that the LED will typically show Red during normal operation regardless of the bypass mode.
