Health o meter Body Fat Monitoring Scale
User Manual - Model BFM580
Welcome
Congratulations on your purchase of this Health o meter wellness monitoring product. It is more than just a scale; it helps monitor weight and body fat composition for one user. It is easy to program and use. Once your data is stored, your scale is ready.
About Body Fat
The Health o meter Body Fat Monitoring Scale assists in achieving your physical best by providing estimates for BODY FAT COMPOSITION and BODY WEIGHT. Unlike traditional bathroom scales that indicate overall weight (lean mass and body fat combined), this scale allows you to track your weight and body fat separately.
Please read all instructions to familiarize yourself with features and operations before programming the scale.
- The use of this scale is not recommended for persons with an electric implant (heart pacemaker).
- The scale will not calculate body fat unless you have bare feet.
- For an accurate body fat estimate, do not bend your knees, and keep your legs/thighs apart and straight when standing on the scale.
- The body fat function is not recommended for use by pregnant women, persons with fever, swollen legs or other edemas, or individuals who are over-hydrated or dehydrated.
- Body fat percentages may be slightly higher or lower for children under 16, persons with diabetes, and other health conditions.
- Women naturally store approximately 5% more body fat than men.

Monitoring your Weight and Body Fat Composition
Ensure your personal data has been programmed. Place the scale on a flat, level surface. A hard surface is best for maximum accuracy. Placing the scale on a rug or carpet may affect weighing accuracy.
- Press the SET/USER button with your toe. Your personal profile will appear on the screen.
- Wait until "0.0" appears on the display.
- Stand on the scale with bare feet only. Position your feet so the balls of your feet are on the upper silver pads and your heels are on the lower silver pads.
- During the weight measurement, the display will flash "- - -" and then show your weight and body fat percentage. Stand still for a few seconds.
NOTE: For accurate body fat estimates, always measure with bare feet.
NOTE: It is normal for your weight to vary during a day and from one day to another; slight changes in weight are generally normal.
Weight-only Usage
It is not necessary to program personal data to obtain an accurate weight-only reading.
Place the scale on a flat, level, hard surface for maximum accuracy. Placing the scale on a rug or carpet may affect weighing accuracy.
- Tap on the scale platform with the ball of your foot to activate the scale.
- Wait until "0.0" is displayed.
- Step on the scale and stand still. The display will flash "- - -" and then show your weight.
- The scale will turn off automatically after a few seconds.
NOTE: It is recommended to weigh yourself at the same time of the day. It is normal for your weight to vary during a day and from one day to another; slight changes in weight are generally normal.
Error Indicator
If "E" appears on the display, an error has occurred. Step off the scale and carefully repeat the steps. The "E" will appear if:
- You step on the scale before "0.0" displays.
- The weight is greater than the maximum capacity (330LB / 150kg). NEVER apply a weight beyond the maximum capacity.
- The scale cannot measure body fat.
Caring for your Scale
Periodically wipe the scale surface down with a DRY cloth to remove dust.
Body Fat Composition Ranges
This section provides information on body fat composition ranges, extracted from "Principals & Labs for Fitness and Wellness, 1st Edition ©1999". To determine the percentage of body fat that is appropriate for your body, consult your physician.
The ranges are typically presented in bar charts showing different categories based on age and gender.
