Introduction
The MEAN WELL DDR series comprises DIN rail-type DC-DC converters featuring easy DIN rail installation, ultra-slim width, 2:1 wide input voltage range, fanless design, and a wide operating temperature range (-40~+70°C, or -40~+80°C for DDR-480 series). They offer 4kVdc I/O isolation, 150% peak load capability, current sharing, DC OK signal, adjustable output voltage, and comprehensive protective functions.
This series supports various input voltage options: 9~18V, 16.8~33.6V, 33.6~67.2V, and 67.2~154V, with output options of 12V, 24V, and 48V. They are suitable for applications in industrial and railway control, security systems, communication systems, and other fields, including DC buck/boost regulation, increasing system insulation levels, and voltage drop compensation along cables.

Installation
General Guidelines
Always allow adequate ventilation clearances: 5mm on the left and right, 40mm above, and 20mm below the unit during operation to prevent overheating.
Mounting Orientation
The recommended mounting orientation is vertical, with input terminals at the bottom and output terminals at the top. Mounting orientations such as upside down, horizontal, or table-top mounting are not permitted.
Wiring and Connections
Use copper wire only. Recommended wire gauges and their corresponding current ratings are as follows:

Notes:
- The current capacity for each wire should be de-rated to 80% of the suggested value when using 5 or more wires connected to the unit.
- The maximum allowable wire cross-sectional area for the terminal is 12AWG/2.5 mm².
Ensure that all strands of each stranded wire are fully inserted into the terminal connection and that the screw terminals are securely tightened to prevent poor contact. If the power supply has multiple output terminals, ensure each contact is connected to wires to prevent excessive current stress on a single contact.
Use wires rated for at least 80°C, such as UL1007.
Recommended wire strapping length is 5mm (0.197 inches).
Recommended screwdriver is a 4mm slotted type.

Mounting Instructions
Mount the unit as shown in the figures, with input terminals facing downwards, to ensure adequate cooling. If mounted in other orientations, sufficient cooling may not be possible.
Admissible DIN rail type: TS35/7.5 or TS35/15.
For rail fastening:
- Tilt the unit slightly rearwards.
- Fit the unit over the top hat rail.
- Slide it downward until it hits the stop.
- Press against the bottom for locking.
- Shake the unit slightly to confirm the locking action.
Warnings and Cautions
Please observe the following safety precautions:
- Risk of electrical shock and energy hazard: All failures should be examined by a qualified technician. Do not attempt to remove the power supply case yourself.
- Risk of electric arcs and electric shock (danger to life): Connecting both the primary and secondary sides together is not allowed.
- Risk of burn hazard: Do not touch the unit during operation or immediately after disconnection.
- Risk of fire and short circuit: Ensure openings are protected from foreign objects and dripping liquids.
- Install the unit only in a pollution degree 2 environment (Note 1).
- Do not install the unit in places with high moisture or near water.
- The maximum operating temperatures are 55°C for DDR-120 series, 50°C for DDR-240 series, and 60°C for DDR-480 series. Avoid installing the unit in places with high ambient temperatures or near fire sources.
- The FG (Protective Earth) terminal must be connected to PE (Protective Earth).
- Output current and output wattage must not exceed the rated values specified.
- Disconnect system from supply voltage: Before commencing any installation, maintenance, or modification work, disconnect the system from the supply voltage. Ensure that inadvertent reconnection into the circuit is impossible.
- For continued protection against fire risk, replace fuses only with the same type and rating. (To avoid compromising fire protection, replace with a fuse of the same type and nominal characteristics.)
Note 1: Pollution Degree 2 applies to environments where only non-conductive pollution is present, which might temporarily become conductive due to occasional condensation. Generally, this refers to dry, well-ventilated locations such as control cabinets.
