Note: 1. All parameters NOT specially mentioned are measured at normal input (B:24Vdc, C:48Vdc, D:110Vdc), rated load and 25°C of ambient temperature. 2. Ripple & noise are measured at 20MHz of bandwidth by using a 12" twisted pair-wire terminated with a 0.1µF & 47µF parallel capacitor. 3. Tolerance: includes set up tolerance, line regulation and load regulation. 4. Derating may be needed under low input voltage. Please check the derating curve for more details. 5. 150% for 5 seconds, please refer to peak loading curves. 6. The ambient temperature derating of 3.5°C/1000m with fanless models and of 5°C/1000m with fan models for operating altitude higher than 2000m (6500ft). 7. The power supply is considered as an independent unit, but the final equipment still needs to re-confirm that the whole system complies with the EMC directives. For guidance on how to perform these EMC tests, please refer to "EMI testing of component power supplies." (as available on http://www.meanwell.com)
Block Diagram
The block diagram illustrates the internal components and signal flow of the DDR-480 series converter. The input DC power (DC I/P) passes through an EMI Filter to reduce noise. The ON/OFF control signal, managed by Remote Control, interacts with the PWM Control. The Power Switching stage converts the input power. The O.L.P. (Over Load Protection) and O.V.P. (Over Voltage Protection) monitor the output. The Rectifiers & Filter stage smooths the output. A Detection Circuit monitors various parameters. The Current Share function allows for parallel operation. The output provides DC OK status, +Vo (positive output voltage), -Vo (negative output voltage), and P+/P- terminals for current sharing. The FG (Frame Ground) terminal is also shown.
Derating Curves
Ambient Temperature Derating Curve
This graph shows the permissible load percentage (%) against ambient temperature (°C). The curve indicates that the converter can operate at 100% load continuously within a certain temperature range (approximately -20°C to 55°C). A peak load of 150% is permissible for a short duration (5 seconds). For temperatures below -20°C or above 55°C, derating is required. Specific derating curves are provided for different models, with notes indicating variations for DDR-480B/C/D-12 and DDR-480D-24/48 models.

Output Derating VS Input Voltage
This graph illustrates how the output load percentage (%) varies with input voltage (V) for different types of DDR-480 converters (B Type, C/D Type). It shows the input voltage ranges for each type and the corresponding derating required at different input voltage levels.

Functionality Details
Peak Loading
The converter can handle peak loads for short durations. For 12V output models, a peak load of 601.2W (150% of rated power) is available for 5 seconds. For other output voltages (24V, 48V), a peak load of 720W (150%) is available for 5 seconds. The continuous load rating is 400.8W for 12V models and 480W for 24V and 48V models.
DC OK Relay Contact
The DC OK relay contact indicates the status of the power supply. When the contact is closed, the PSU is turned on and operating normally (DC OK). When the contact is open, the PSU is turned off or has failed (DC Fail). The maximum rating for this contact is 30Vdc/1A resistive load.
Current Sharing
Parallel operation is supported by connecting multiple units. The P+ and P- terminals of each unit are connected in parallel. To ensure proper operation, the voltage difference among outputs should be minimized (less than 0.2V). The total output current must not exceed 90% of the sum of the rated currents of the connected units (Total Output Current = Rated Current per Unit × Number of Units × 0.9). A maximum of 4 units can be paralleled; for more units, consult the manufacturer. A minimum output load of 3% of the total output load is required when operating in parallel.
Remote ON-OFF Control
The power supply can be turned ON or OFF remotely using the "Remote ON-OFF" function via TB1 PIN 2 and 4. Applying an open circuit or a voltage between 5.5V and 10VDC turns the power supply ON. Applying a short circuit or a voltage between 0V and 0.8VDC turns the power supply OFF.
Input Fuse
Each model includes an input fuse in series with the positive input line to protect against abnormal surges. The fuse type and rating vary by model:
- Type B: Time-Lag, Conquer MST, 10A, 250V *5
- Type C: Time-Lag, Conquer MST, 8A, 250V *3
- Type D: Time-Lag, Conquer MST, 6.3A, 250V *2
Input Under-Voltage Protection
If the input voltage drops below a specified minimum (Vimin), the internal control IC shuts down the output. The output automatically recovers when the input voltage rises above Vimin. Specific turn-on and turn-off voltages are provided for different input voltage ranges (e.g., DDR-480B-24, DDR-480C-24, DDR-480D-24).
Input Reverse Polarity Protection
Two MOSFETs are connected in series to the negative input line. If the input polarity is reversed, these MOSFETs open, preventing current flow and protecting the unit.
Inrush Current
Inrush current is suppressed during initial startup by a resistor. This resistor is then bypassed by MOSFETs to reduce power consumption after the startup sequence is complete.
Hold-up Time
The hold-up time specification indicates how long the output voltage remains stable after the input power is lost. The EN50155:2017 version of B/C/D types comply with S2 level (10ms) at full load. Tables and curves are provided for different load conditions (100%, 70%, other) and models (B, C, D types) showing the hold-up time in milliseconds.
Efficiency vs Load & Vin Curve
These graphs display the efficiency (%) of the converters across various load levels (10% to 100%) and input voltages (Vin) for each specific model. They help in understanding the power conversion efficiency under different operating conditions.
