- 5. Built-in Magnet: Allows you to easily attach to a refrigerator or any metal surface.
5. Before First Use
- Insert 1x AAA battery with correct polarity (+) and (-) as indicated.
- Wash probe tip with warm soapy sponge or cloth, then rinse and dry.
- Wash under running water without fear!
- PLEASE READ AND FOLLOW ALL INSTRUCTIONS.
- The thermometer is now ready to use.
6. To Measure Food Temperature
- Pull the probe away from the body of the thermometer to turn on the thermometer, and fold in the probe to turn off the thermometer.
- Press and hold the °C/°F button for 3 seconds to switch between °C and °F. The selected temperature unit will remain when you turn on the thermometer next time.
- Insert the tip of the probe into food being cooked. The thermometer will start to measure the internal food temperature.
- Wait until the temperature reading stabilizes on the display.
- Temperature readings can be displayed with a 180° global viewing angle.
- Press the LOCK button to hold the temperature for 5 seconds.
- Wash the thermometer under running water after use.
- The thermometer will automatically turn off if the probe is not folded in and no button has been pressed for 90 seconds.
- If the thermometer is sleeping with the probe not folded in and then picked up or moved, it will automatically power on.
7. Calibration
The thermometer features a Calibration function. While it is precisely calibrated at the manufacturing facility, you may recalibrate it if you believe the temperature readings are inaccurate after extended use.
- Use distilled or purified water to make ice cubes in your refrigerator.
- Get a thermal insulated bottle, or a beaker or regular cup.
- Fill the bottle with ice cubes (no less than 70% of the volume), then top off with cold distilled or purified water (no greater than 30% of the volume).
- Stir the mixture and let it sit for 10 minutes to allow the ice and water to reach temperature equilibration.
- Fold down the probe to power off the thermometer. Then, press and hold the Lock button and fold up the probe to turn on the thermometer. The 'CAL' indicator will flash, signifying Calibration mode.
- Immerse the probe in the ice/water mixture, ensuring it does not touch the container sides. Wait until the temperature reading drops to its lowest value, which should be between 28°F to 36°F (or -2°C to +2°C). Press the LOCK button once to exit calibration mode. Successful calibration is indicated by the cessation of the 'CAL' flashing.
If the ice/water mixture temperature is not within the 28°F to 36°F (or -2°C to +2°C) range, calibration is unsuccessful. Remake the ice/water mixture and repeat the steps.
Note: Calibration mode lasts for 15 seconds. If calibration is not completed within this time, the thermometer will exit Calibration mode automatically.
8. Undo-Calibration
- Fold down the probe to turn off the thermometer. Then, press and hold the "LOCK" button and fold up the probe to turn on the thermometer. The 'CAL' indicator will flash, indicating Calibration mode.
- Press the "LOCK" button for 5 seconds to undo the calibration. The thermometer will reset to its default setting.
9. Helpful Hints
- When measuring different foods or meats, it is advisable to cool the probe first by rinsing the tip with cold water.
- Wipe the probe tip clean between readings, especially when measuring different foods or meats.
- The thermometer is designed for temporary, hand-held use. Do NOT use it in an oven. Do NOT leave it in extremely hot foods or liquids (anything over 572°F / 300°C) for more than 1 minute.
- Always take your reading in the thickest available portion of meat. Thin portions cook quickly and are difficult to measure accurately. Avoid touching bone. If the tip touches bone or heavy fat, or if the tip is not inserted deep enough, take a second reading for accuracy.
- Not intended for use by persons under age 12.
10. Care of Your Thermometer
- Do not touch the stainless steel probe during or immediately after measuring temperatures, as it will be very hot.
- Do not place the unit in a dishwasher or immerse it in any liquid. To clean, wipe the probe tip with a damp, soapy cloth or sponge and then dry.
- Do not expose the thermometer to extreme high or low temperatures, as this can damage electronic parts and plastics.
- Do not keep the thermometer inserted in food during cooking.
- Remove batteries if the thermometer will be stored for more than four months.
